Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: Big Mick Date: 04 Apr 07 - 09:08 PM tolerance, I think I will back out of this thread. I understand your position, and the handle you are using on this thread, as opposed to your member name, indicates the position you are taking. Your position is admirable, but I just don't think we can agree. The interviewer indicated that Keith was very thoughtful and took time to answer this question. Keep on keepin' on, Mick |

Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: alanabit Date: 05 Apr 07 - 02:42 AM I think you will find Keef is still on his first marriage. To my knowledge, he married Patti Hansen in the eighites. He never married his one previous longstanding girlfriend, Anita Pallenberg. |
Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: dianavan Date: 05 Apr 07 - 03:09 AM I'm not surprised. The Rolling Stones have always relied on formula. They've always been pop. They had a couple of good tunes but they were more business than music. I didn't buy it when I was young and I don't buy it now. Keith Richards with soul? I thought he sold it long ago. Apparently, they still know how to get all the attention they need. They certainly know how to work the crowd. I guess their target audience are bottom feeders who like anything gross. They've made lots of money being that way. |
Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: Rasener Date: 05 Apr 07 - 03:22 AM One of my favourite groups is the Rolling Stones, and still one of my favourites is Little Red Rooster written by Willie Dixon. Cracking Blues standard. Little Red Rooster |
Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: dianavan Date: 05 Apr 07 - 03:37 AM Lets just say I've never been a big fan of British Blues. I like my Blues a little more authentic. In fact, it took me a long time to understand the British invasion at all. It seemed like a market version of the real thing. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. Thats just the way I saw it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: Rasener Date: 05 Apr 07 - 03:59 AM Thats fine Dianavan However your comments like bottom feeders is not appreciated. Just becuase you do not like them, doesn't mean that you should slag them or their fans off. |
Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: alanabit Date: 05 Apr 07 - 04:13 AM I guess you like it or you don't. Certainly young white American kids were not playing blues in any great numbers before that happened. Jeff Beck recalls being very mystified that US audiences took the Brits seriously in the early days. However, time has passed and British blues has a pedigree which is only a few decades shorter than the US has. Certainly the Brits were taken very seriously by some of the US giants - BB King and Muddy Waters in particular. British urban blues is as authentic as any other type. It now has firm musical and historical roots and has definitely contributed to the development of the genre. Whether you like it or not is another question. I would say the Stones have not been a serious blues band since Mick Taylor left in 1974. In fact their heyday as a blues band had already come and gone before that. I guess they are a bit gross at times, but there have been occasional bursts of lyrical and musical intelligence. Notably songs like "Wild Horses" and "Waiting on a Friend" prove that they really can write grown up songs about women if they want to. "High Wire" and "Undercover" tell pithy political truths, even if they are not actually musical masterpieces. I think they could have done better both musically and lyrically had they really tried. At the end of the day, I like them. I grew up with them and they feel like an old gang of friends. I know they are pretty imperfect, like lots of my other friends. They have never really done any serious harm that I can see, however, and I can see the joke when they are taking the piss. I don't expect too much of them, so I guess I don't get too disappointed! |
Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: Paco Rabanne Date: 05 Apr 07 - 04:40 AM Is this just an April fool joke? |
Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: George Papavgeris Date: 05 Apr 07 - 04:45 AM No - wrong timing. Two days after the inerview a spokeswoman for KR claimed it had been meant as a joke; but the original interviewer refutes that. I think (but cannot prove of course) that it was a case of "high jinks" and a thoughtless moment on the part of Keith, and a damage limitation exercise followed. In any case, even if it had been meant as a joke I would still find it in poor taste. But each to his own. Perhaps literally in this case. |

Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: GUEST,tolerance Date: 05 Apr 07 - 08:00 AM Besides the songs I mentioned above, I'm not a Stones fan. But I do respect what they have contributed to the music world, regardless if they are showmen and work the audience. Hell what performer doesn't work his audience in one way or another. If it wasn't for the likes of the British Blues Bands with the Stones at the forefront, many of these American true blues originators would have gone unregongnized by their own countrymen. Yes, alanabit my mistake "Love in Vain" is a Robert Johhnson composition, but I think the Stones did one hell of a version of it. Thanks to Keef. |

Oh gee.....and I thought we have a problem because my recently deceased old Mum wants hers scattered where she used to live, which is now a baseball diamond and she was never a fan. She's currently sitting on my kitchen table in a brown plastic can, next to the ground coffee....Keef, you've just given me an idea!.....naaah. Now her dentures, that's another problem....can't bring myself to just chuck 'em in the trash. Perhaps I could drop them off fisherman's wharf where she was born. I can picture a harbour seal popping up and flashing a new pearly white grin to entertain the tourists. LOL She'd like that. |

Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: dianavan Date: 05 Apr 07 - 01:44 PM Sorry Villain, I didn't think you would take it so seriously. Let me try again. I think that the Stones are pop. I think their music has been designed to appeal to the masses. They have commercial appeal and they milk it for all its worth. Now that they are getting older, Keith has come up with a wild story that will surely make the tabloid press and thereby keeping the Stones in the spotlight. They are masters of manipulating their image and this latest gossip was obviously intended to shock and 'gross people out'. Hasn't that been their 'schtick' all along? |
Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: Peace Date: 05 Apr 07 - 01:46 PM I don't see what's gross about sniffing ashes. Hell, anyone who ever smoked a butt or a roach has inhaled ashes. Like, they don't burn twice, ya know? |

From: GUEST,John Huggen Date: 06 Apr 07 - 11:52 PM Many of you may not know this but those are the words Mr. Fletcher used in the general direction of Captain Bligh. "kiss my arse", after Bligh accused Fletcher of stealing from his hord of coconuts. That was a very stressfull moment for all the crew indeed. Very stressfull. But it's all water under the bridge now (Haw, Haw, Haw). I say, let's all have a drink. Here. Pass the bottle to me will you. |

Subject: RE: BS: Keith Richards snorted his Dad's ashes! From: GUEST,patty o'dawes Date: 07 Apr 07 - 03:25 PM Another of the Stones enduring qualities is not to take themselves too seriously. This is lost on people who do. |
