Subject: Lyr Add: BLUE YODEL NO. 4 (CALIFORNIA BLUES) From: GUEST Date: 24 May 07 - 06:06 PM BLUE YODEL NO. 4 (CALIFORNIA BLUES) (Jimmie Rodgers) As recorded by Jimmie Rodgers, 1928. (Victor V-40014) YODEL I'm goin' to California where they sleep out ev'ry night. I'm goin' to California where they sleep out ev'ry night. I'm leavin' you, mama, cause you know you don't treat me right. YODEL Listen to me, mama, while I sing you this song. Listen to your daddy sing you this lonesome song. You got me worried now but I won't be worried long. YODEL Let me tell you something, mama, that you don't know. Let me tell you something, good gal, that you don't know. I'm a do-right papa and got a home ev'rywhere I go. YODEL Got the California blues and I'm sure gonna leave you here. (Lawd, Lawd) Got the California blues and I'm sure gonna leave you here. I may ride the blinds; I ain't got no railroad fare. YODEL I don't understand what makes you treat me like you do. I can't understand how come you treat me like you do-doodle-do. Now, if you don't want me, mama, it's a cinch I don't want you. YODEL |

Subject: RE: lyric reqd, California Blues From: GUEST,Greycap Date: 24 May 07 - 08:16 PM No disrespect to Hank Williams, Merle Haggard & Hank Snow, my personal heroes, & many, many, many others, but Jimmie was the daddy of country music played and sung by one man with his acoustic guitar. I choose my words very carefully and, I do agree, they are open to dispute. My humble opinion, and I've been playing and singing country stuff since 1959. |
Subject: RE: lyric reqd, California Blues - jimmyrodg From: Big Al Whittle Date: 24 May 07 - 08:32 PM Its a great song. I can never quite understand where the craft comes in when the structure is so simple, but by God its there. You can say the same about Robert Johnson of course - theres a ort of thrill runs through the audience when one of these apparently simple songs get sung. |
