Subject: Is there a Jimmie Rodgers Songbook? From: GUEST,murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 07 Aug 00 - 05:00 AM There are two (probably more!) usefull threads about songbooks. One is a Leadbelly Songbook and the other is about a Carter Family Songbook, Flushed with success with these two I would like to know if there is a Jimmie Rodgers Songbook. The two songs I would like most to study are "Hobo Billy's Last Ride" and "Pistol Packin' Pappa"; but it would be nice if the book had some history, etc. too. Murray |

Subject: RE: Is there a Jimmie Rodgers Songbook? From: Stewie Date: 07 Aug 00 - 08:12 PM Murray, there's a Dutch site devoted to Rodgers. It has lyrics and chords to 'Hobo Bill's Last Ride' and lyrics to 'Pistol Packin' Papa': Nolan Porterfield's 'Jimmie Rodgers' Uni of Illinois Press is an excellent source of information on Rodgers and his songs. --Stewie.

Subject: RE: Is there a Jimmie Rodgers Songbook? From: GUEST,murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 08 Aug 00 - 02:36 AM That sounds like a great site Stewie. Unfortunately I can't get it. I get a message the the URL is unknown to the server. I will try again later; but can you double check that you don't have a misprint. I will look into that book too. Between that and the two volumes Gene mentions, I will give Amazon.com or somebody a hefty order one of these days. Murray |
Subject: RE: Is there a Jimmie Rodgers Songbook? From: Stewie Date: 08 Aug 00 - 03:14 AM Murray, the link was working perfectly earlier - I checked it after posting. At the moment, it is not working from my 'favourites' list either, so I can't give you the URL. Hopefully, it's only down temporarily - it's a useful site. --Stewie. |

Subject: RE: Is there a Jimmie Rodgers Songbook? From: GUEST,Nita Date: 05 Feb 13 - 06:17 PM Can anybody please tell me. Are any of Jimmy Rogers songs in Public Domaine if so which ones? Thanks very much.. Nita.. |
Subject: RE: Is there a Jimmie Rodgers Songbook? From: 12-stringer Date: 06 Feb 13 - 01:32 PM No, none of JR's songs are in public domain. It's unlikely that any of them will fall into PD this century, since it's about time for Disney to buy another extension of the copyright law and the Rodgers library will get a free ride on whatever Disney purchases. |
Subject: RE: Is there a Jimmie Rodgers Songbook? From: Bert Date: 06 Feb 13 - 01:35 PM He died in 1933 and copyright lasts until 70 years after the death of the author; so those that he wrote himself should be free of copyright by now. Unfortunately the industry is so possessive that they may have figured out a way around the law. |
Subject: RE: Is there a Jimmie Rodgers Songbook? From: 12-stringer Date: 06 Feb 13 - 04:14 PM It's now 95 years in the US for material published 1923-1963, assuming the work was registered and renewed. Rodgers' publisher was Peer International, which has been diligent in protecting its copyrights. So the earliest anything will go PD under current law is late 2022 (1927+95; Rodgers' first recordings were made 8/4/1927); the last copyrights should expire in 2028 (1933+95; last session 5/24/1933). However, a change in the laws between now and 2022, allowing even longer copyright protection, is pretty much guaranteed. |
