Subject: Bubbles From: Jane in eskdale Date: 08 Jun 07 - 06:23 PM Does anyone know the proportions of washing up liquid, glycerine and water for blowing really BIG bubbles? Need it urgently for our fair on 17th. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Sorcha Date: 08 Jun 07 - 06:26 PM Uh...folk music site?????? Try a bubble site. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: GUEST,Sorcha Date: 08 Jun 07 - 06:33 PM Sorch on IE not logged in. Sorry, I guess I'm stressed out. If you want REALLY big bubbles, look for a liquid plastic polymer thing. Used to be available in US. I have NO idea if it's been taken off the market or not. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: GUEST,Canadienne Date: 08 Jun 07 - 06:44 PM Blowing large bubbles is a great stress relief Sorcha Try this recipe |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: SINSULL Date: 08 Jun 07 - 10:52 PM I'm forever blowing bubbles Pretty bubbles in the air They fly so high Nearly reach the sky Then like my dreams They fade and fly Fortune's always hiding I've looked everywhere And I'm forever blowing bubbles Pretty bubbles in the air. Now it's a music thread. And yes - I have bubbles and blow them frequently winter or summer. That recipe works well with the huge bubble wands. A few years back The Big Apple Circus had a clown who came out and blew tiny bubbles, then bigger and bigger ones, all to music. He finished with huge 4' globes. The ring was filled with bubbles - pure magic. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Bert Date: 08 Jun 07 - 11:32 PM ...I'm forever blowing bubbles... Is that song unique in the fact that it is sung by West Ham United soccer fans when the action is very slow. Most soccer songs are sung when the action is fast or somebody has scored. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Liz the Squeak Date: 09 Jun 07 - 03:45 AM Lucky old Bubbles! There are several long lasting super strength bubble mixes available, I'm surprised I couldn't find any online - but I did get a great recipe for marijuanna bubble gum mix... Try here... for something a little more user/cop friendly! LTS |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Liz the Squeak Date: 09 Jun 07 - 03:48 AM Bert - is probably is unique in that respect, but they've been singing it an awful lot this last season! LTS - who lives within shouting distance of Upton Park stadium! |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: MBSLynne Date: 09 Jun 07 - 05:37 AM I had a bubble mix recipe when my kids were small but I don't know where I put it. Bubbles are wonderful things. I still sometimes buy the little pots and sit in my backgarden blowing bubbles. One of the things I love about them is that they carry miniature rainbows. I've always loved rainbows anyway but a couple of years ago I had a dream where a 'voice' told me that rainbows would save the world. Since then I try to spread rainbows where I can. Bubbles are a good way of doing it. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: SINSULL Date: 09 Jun 07 - 11:32 AM Seamus loves to chase and "kill" the bubbles. Great fun for both of us. By the way, congratulations on the new baby, Bert! Details? |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Little Hawk Date: 09 Jun 07 - 11:57 AM Darn! I figured this was a Trailer Park Boys' thread... |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Ebbie Date: 09 Jun 07 - 12:37 PM Some years back a traveling performer came to Juneau. His whole act was blowing bubbles on stage- myrisds of tiny ones, hula-hoop sized ones, shadow-casting ones, multiple bubbles inside multiple bubbles... It was very entertaining. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Sorcha Date: 09 Jun 07 - 02:19 PM When I was a kid, late 50's, early 60's, there was this stuff we bought in a tube. It made HUGE plastic bubbles that lasted a long time, but I'll never remember what it was called. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: JohnInKansas Date: 09 Jun 07 - 03:47 PM We've found that the commercial mix is as cheap as anything we can mix, is much more convenient, and works quite well. We've run a "bubble machine" in the campground some in recent years. A couple of people have used it with the larger "rope loop" bubble makers. (We got our supply from Walmart, since it's the only "toy store" in Winfield.) The mix we've used is by Strombecker Corp, and carries a "Tootsie Toy" label. We found it in 100 oz Super Economy Size. It's more commonly found in smaller (7 oz?) plastic bottles, which would be more expensive. Both sizes usually come with an included little "magic wand" that's an insult to the real "bubble head." A minor(?) consideration is that bubbles can drift and sometimes leave "marks" where they burst on things, and with the commercial mix you can show them the prominent "NON-TOXIC BUBBLES Ages 3 and older" label to de-fuze the occasional protest (sometimes). This mix also seems to have a little less "sting" than most soap/glycerine types I've encountered when a bubble pops between eyeglasses and eyeball, possibly because it doesn't contain the more agressive "cleaning ingredients" of most "soaps" you'd use in a home brew. Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Stilly River Sage Date: 09 Jun 07 - 03:58 PM They have very large loops on wands that rest in a circular pan and the idea is to step inside the circle and have someone lift the wand and for a few moments you're inside the bubble. I've seen this apparatus in places like the local Science and Natural History museum in the kids area. You might have to check around with one of those places if this is the kind of bubble you're trying to generate. SRS |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: MBSLynne Date: 09 Jun 07 - 04:06 PM Yes my cats chase bubbles too. An entertaining half hour can be passed blowing bubbles then laughing at them chasing them and at their surprise when the bubbles disappear Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: terrier Date: 09 Jun 07 - 08:20 PM It's dammed annoying. No matter what shaped hoop you use,the bubbles all come out round (spherical).Somebody must know how to make square bubbles? Why won't they tell us? |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Bert Date: 09 Jun 07 - 08:46 PM Here she is Two weeks old yesterday. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Bert Date: 09 Jun 07 - 08:49 PM ...but they've been singing it an awful lot this last season!.. I guess you are not shouting loudly enough Squeaks. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Sorcha Date: 09 Jun 07 - 10:24 PM Aw, Bert, she is a cutie! And hows come we haven't seen this site before????? Eh? |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Chip2447 Date: 09 Jun 07 - 11:07 PM non spherical, non standard bubbles here |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Ebbie Date: 10 Jun 07 - 01:05 AM Hey! That's the guy who came to Juneau. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Mickey191 Date: 10 Jun 07 - 01:35 AM Dave Letterman had a fellow on about a month ago-all he did was blow bubbles & had a small bit of patter to. He did do bubbles inside of bubbles. Thought it was very odd for midnight talk show. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Ebbie Date: 10 Jun 07 - 01:42 AM If you watch Letterman regularly, Mickey, you'll see that his is a kind of an off the wall show- he has everything from Stupid Pet Tricks to a Moment in Presidential Speeches (which puts FDR's 'Nothing to fear but fear itself' and JFK's 'Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country' in juxtaposition with our illustrious leader's confused thought and incoherent speech.) His talk show guests don't come on until after the first half hour. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Bert Date: 10 Jun 07 - 01:59 AM Hi Sorchiluv, I've only just got it back on line. It was down for months. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Liz the Squeak Date: 10 Jun 07 - 04:42 AM Bert - I'm not a football fan, neither am I particularly a fan of West Ham, although it does have a rather nice mediaeval church. LTS |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Severn Date: 10 Jun 07 - 08:28 AM I own a bubble machine that some act once left in a nightclub a friend worked at. It still does the occaisional party, was booked once for a baseball league opening day and is out on the front steps every Halloween night for the enjoyment of the kids. When I run low on bubble liquid, I just mix dishwashing detergent and warer. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: SINSULL Date: 10 Jun 07 - 09:54 AM What the hell is "warra"? Meantime, as I prepared (still) for the upcoming yard sale, I unearthed 4 dozen little wedding cake bottles of bubbles. A girl can hope can't she? |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Sorcha Date: 10 Jun 07 - 10:09 AM I still want to know what that plastic bubble stuff was that I used to get. Searching for plastic bubbles didn't help. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Sorcha Date: 10 Jun 07 - 10:11 AM OK, I lied. "plastic bubbles" was the ONE thing I hadn't searched for. CLICK |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Sorcha Date: 10 Jun 07 - 10:13 AM "Magic Plastic Bubbles is one of those weird things in life that everyone should experience. This type of bubble making has been around forever and the process continues to fascinate kids of all ages. The bubble material comes in a good size tube and includes a blow-pipe. Squeeze out some material the size of a marble, roll it up into a ball, press the blow-pipe into the center of the ball, gently start blowing and prepare for a fun experience." |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Bert Date: 10 Jun 07 - 01:41 PM NOT a fan of West Ham. You know you can go right off of some people *GRIN* There's a story in our family that my Great Grandfather Joe Hansell founded the team. He worked at the Thames Iron Works as a boilermaker and organized a team from the apprentices there. As most of the apprentices had been to St. Luke's School, the team was originally called "St. Luke's Juveniles". Later they changed the name to "Thames Iron Works", which eventually became "West Ham United". |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Jane in eskdale Date: 11 Jun 07 - 05:48 AM Thanks Canadienne, that's what I was looking for. Why ask on a folk music site, Sorcha? Because I have seen a children's entertainer at a folk festival making huge bubbles with a loop of rag tied on a stick. He dipped it in a bucket and waved it in the air. I got the recipe from him, but lost it. I thought other folkies might have done the same thing, apart from the losing it, that is. Of course I could have experimented, but the fair is next Sunday, and if I get it wrong, it's a 1 1/2 hour round trip to the supermarket to get more supplies. If you're in the Lake District, pop in to Ravenglass on Sunday pm. It's a lovely little place. |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: Liz the Squeak Date: 11 Jun 07 - 07:22 AM Bert - I'm just not a football fan. Only ever been to one match in my life, at the age of 4, to watch my brother play. I was standing on the sidelines with my mum when some striker made a sliding tackle, missed the ball and slid right into me. It was only when my brother got home and found me covered in mud and bandages that he realised he'd been the striker that bowled me over. Never liked football after that. Interesting story about your relative - there are fans now who don't know why their team badge is a pair of foundry hammers. LTS |
Subject: RE: Bubbles From: SINSULL Date: 11 Jun 07 - 08:22 AM Plastic bubbles - I loved them as a child and occasionally indulge when they turn up at the Dollar Store. They smell good too. |
