Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Jeri Date: 10 Jun 07 - 07:26 PM I saw your car at the market when I left with my booty. You weren't in it, or I would have said 'hi'. I'll let Tom's fellow test gaffers down at the factory know tomorrow. I am VERY relieved that the antibiotics seem to be working! Love & hugs, Jeri |

So the bad luck is moving away from you. At least that's how I see it. I have a feeling things are just starting to shift to getting a whole lot better, on all fronts - Tom, job, money, cat. That's what I'll be visualising! And Linda's husband and Spaw are in my thoughts too. We gotta keep all these hearts beating strongly around here! |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Charley Noble Date: 11 Jun 07 - 12:59 PM Linn- I just got back from the Mystic Sea Music Festival and saw this thread. I'm very relieved that you managed to get Tom to the Emergency Room before things got even worse. I'm also relieved to hear he's looking better now. It's no fun wishing to be "older" but I can certainly understand why the availability of Medicare might be of interest. I'll be signing up for that myself in a few months. I can come early for the shanty session on Saturday if that would be helpful, and I'm sure that one or two other Roll & Go folks would also be willing to help "facilitate." Should we bring crowbars? Give Tom our best, and try to get some rest yourself. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Bat Goddess Date: 11 Jun 07 - 05:53 PM Well, the news today is rather confusing. He still can't get straight answers as to what exactly the problem is. And it seems now they're concerned about the SOURCE of the pneumonia and/or infection. Either could turn out actually to be a worker's comp case.. I think he's got more antibiotics in him than blood at this rate. And they're threatening an antibiotic drip for another month after they turn him loose. I got the magazine to the printer and I'm taking the next two days off. Maybe if I'm around we can get some answers. He had an echocardiogram this morning, too.. Ach! Linn |
Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Jeri Date: 11 Jun 07 - 06:14 PM If they need a guinea pig who works at the same location for antibody testing or anything, let me know. The air conditioner's been broken and they fixed something today. Now, it sounds like there should be a 'fasten seat belts' light coming on as the building begins taxiing... Talk to me about visitors. Some have asked, and I'd like to know meself. Take care. |
Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Bat Goddess Date: 11 Jun 07 - 07:28 PM Visitors. He doesn't seem thrilled at the idea of visitors -- I think he'd rather have people call. PM me for his direct phone line. (Jeri, I'll email you.) Bob Frost was there, though, today not long after I got there and Tom seemed to enjoy the isit. It's just that it's bad enough with nurses, doctors, etcet etcet in and out every coupla minutes, I think he finds having someone there to be sort of adding to the room's overpopulation. You know how he gets when he can't escape occasionally when there are a lot of people around. And dressed the way he is in institutional type gear (and with tubes trailing) he really can't escape. Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: GUEST,Arnie at work Date: 11 Jun 07 - 10:07 PM All the best for a speedy return home Tom - having had a few stays in hospital here in the UK I can guess what you are going through. Only advantage over here is the NHS (National Health Service) which I have to admit is pretty good at dealing with emergency admissions, and all for free! On the downside, the wards are pretty crappy and there is little privacy - if you want private, then you pay private. |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Bat Goddess Date: 12 Jun 07 - 08:38 AM Okay, morning report: The latest news is that the infection, whatever it is, is more or less under control and he possibly has pneumonia in his left lung, but that appears to be under control, too. He may be going home tomorrow (Wednesday), although one nurse suggested today. Nothing official yet and they have to remove one IV portal ain his neck nd possibly put in another one if they can decide what kind of antibiotics he'll need after he leaves the hospital and how it's to be delivered. On an entirely different note, got a voicemail yesterday from a woman saying she's seen several stray cats lately and one matches the description of Jazz-min. AND she left a phone number, unlike the two other calls (one of which MAY have been Jazz and the other probably not). So I'm going to give her a call later this morning. McCrillis Road is a ways from Priest Road, but she's been gone for two weeks and it's shorter through the woods. Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Bat Goddess Date: 12 Jun 07 - 05:34 PM Just got home -- without Tom. False alarm. They did wheel him off while I was there to put another portal for the antibiotic drip he'll have to do twice a day FOR A MONTH!!! (But didn't yet take out the one on his neck that has been serving in that capacity.) And then they have to train him how to do it. And he's off oxygen -- said he had to get used to breathing what the rest of us are stuck with. Sigh. But now he's got clothes, so if he needs to make a break in the middle of the night... Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Bat Goddess Date: 12 Jun 07 - 09:02 PM Talked to Tom a little while ago. He's doing well, and it looks like I'll be bringing him home tomorrow afternoon. As they had said originally. I also talked to the woman who has spotted the cat that meets Jazz's description and she hasn't been able to reach the woman who has been feeding the strays. She said she'll call me either later tonight or first thing in the morning and I can go over and see if it is, indeed, Jazz. Could very well be -- her road is about 3 miles or so from here, but it's a pretty straight shot through the woods. And Jazz has been missing since Memorial Day weekend. Good night! Linn |

I guess I missed the chance to worry excessively about Tom. I hope he's doing better and and that you are holding up Linn. I'll keep a better eye on this thread now that I know you're having trouble. And for Tom, remember it's breathe in, breathe out. One always follows the other. |
Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Jeri Date: 13 Jun 07 - 06:35 AM I went for a short visit yesterday evening. He seemed to be doing pretty well for being incarcerated. I saw the remains of his food tray and thought, "OMYGOD - ARE THOSE CANNED SQUISHY-FRUIT PEARS/PEACHES!!!" I actually thought it out loud. Tom said they were apples. Otherwise, he might have had an extended stay from the shock of it all. |
Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Bat Goddess Date: 13 Jun 07 - 08:37 AM Okay, morning update. Just talked to him -- they haven't brought his breakfast yet, but they're letting him have pancakes, so he's happy and curmudging less. Anywho, he still doesn't know what time they're springing him today, but all he's waiting for is the training on how to do the twice daily 30-minute antiobiotic drip that he'll have to do for the next month. So probably some time this afternoon. Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: Charley Noble Date: 13 Jun 07 - 09:33 AM Linn- Best of luck in springing Tom today. While we're waiting for more updates here's the latest story about our periodically "missing cat." Tejitu, our calico cooncat, has been gone as long as a week in the past. When I returned from the Mystic Sea Music Festival on Monday she was gone again, evidently that morning. There was no sign of her by evening or by the next morning so we sent the usual alerts to the animal shelters, the town animal control officer, and our nearest neighbors. No little flattened cats on the road were reported by Public Works. Her half-sister Tilahun remained unconcerned, with a peculiar smirk on her face. Well, late yesterday afternoon I was making another circuit around a neighbor's house; they were off to a cottage for a few days. I checked their bulkhead, which they'd left unlocked, to see if Tej was down below and she was not. Then I heard a familiar meow from somewhere, and finally determined that it was from within the house. And when I meeowed back, Tej jumped up on the screened open bedroom window sill and appeared quite happy to see me. The screen wasn't locked and I managed, with my handy tack remover, to ease it up enough so that Tej could jump down. The neighbors appeared quite surprised when they returned later that evening after I told them what our "stupid cat" had done. They hadn't a clue how she slipped into their house but I bet it wasn't the first time. Now she's curled up in my lap while I'm trying to type this little story up. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: BS: Curmudgeon In Hospital - June 9, 2007 From: curmudgeon Date: 13 Jun 07 - 04:45 PM I am now at home. Thanks to all for positive thoughts and good wishes; I'm sure they helpedto speed things up. Food was typical hospital fill, short os seasoning, bountiful in its blandness. The meatloaf was almost tasty as it had real onions in it. And there were machines capable of producing real coffee with body and flavour. I really can't think of anything to add, but I will entertain questions as long as they come with their own personal sense of humor. Now for a wee taste of that amber elixer which was not available at all. Thanks again -- Tom |
