Hi Folks
Once again Whitby Folk Week is almost upon us and the Glaisdale Train is in the sheds being polished for our annual jaunt on the first Sunday of Folk week to the Arncliffe Arms.The Fat Controller has been notified so he can tell the guard who normally only has 2 old men, one old lady, two walkers and a dog to contend with.
The train leaves Whitby at 12.43 on Sunday 19 August arriving in Glaisdale at 13.07, we've spoken to the landlady who is looking forward to our visitation and as ever was very helpful (I even mentioned the domino players, but as I've said to many people it's their pub 52 weeks a year, not just one day).
The return journey leaves Glaisdale at 16.25 and if you miss this one you'll never get another one (diddly diddly omp pom, to San Frenando)and hopefully Ossenflags and I will eventually get the right station to start singing "Leaving Nancy" so we hit the buffers in whitby at 15.58 with the final chorus. Looking forward to seeing friends old and new.

Castleton is further up the line past Glaaisdale from the Whitby side

Thanks for that was getting all exited as the lass at the pub at Castleton told us how good it was last year.
Then after a long list of how much fun every one had told us it was a shame it was the previous week.

For those not in the know, is this for singers only or are we poor musicians also invited.

I finish playing for a dance at 12.00 on Sunday so a quick dash to the station (without double bass) will work.

it's an open session, both singers and musicians are welcome, although I would have to say it's predominantly singers but it's always good to a some tunes thrown into the mix. Often if one person starts a tune others will join in unless asked to refrain from doing so. It's very much a free and easy session, bit of banter etc etc, we do not take ourselves seriously although there are some dammed fine singers and musicians

No can do Raggy.will be busy gigging all this weekend, going to the Saltburn next weekend and will not be getting to Whitby untill the Sunday of the Glaisdale run....................it is hard this retirement.Will have make do with a timed "hum" from whitters on the day.

I wouldn't spell his name that way if I were you, Mr H. Applied to someone of the male persuasion it has quite a different meaning, especially in Yorkshire.

Raggy - some time after Ruswarp sounds like a good bet. The timetable gives it 7 minutes from Ruswarp to Whitby. Even with repeated 'Barnsleyised' choruses it might be a little long.

Hi Ruth ..... we've never actually asked for permission ... although I doubt if a solitary conductor is going to ask 60-70 folkies to refrain from singing, in past years they've had all on just to sell tickets to all the people on board never mind anything else.

Trevor are you going to join us this year .... perhaps get Peter to bob over, he has been to a couple of do's in Huddersfield when we had fund raisers there

Another great afternoon, a big thank you to you all for your generousity for the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat especially Maria, the landlady of the Arncliffe. In total another #200 pounds were raised !! and we managed to end Leaving Nancy as we entered Whitby station .......... well done Ossenflags
