Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: gnu Date: 28 Feb 08 - 07:10 AM Mary... you should have asked him which way he was headed. Doesn't sound so "confused" to me. Sounds like a simple mistake under the circumstances. Glad to hear you are able to get around. Means you are on the road to recovery... good news. g |

Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: Barry Finn Date: 28 Feb 08 - 02:32 PM Mary, say away from all strange couches! I don't want to hear about how you laid down on one & started babbling on about you inner most "whatevers" & the guy turns out to be a 'John' looking for a 2 'bitter'. So when the van-man (did he carry a banjo?) said he was waiting for his fiance did you believe him? And did you even get out,,,, did you ask how much the fare was? Barry |

Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: jacqui.c Date: 29 Feb 08 - 03:19 PM We're back from Boston yet again. We saw the endocrinologist this time, who had the pathologist's opinion on the original slides. Whilst the slides were atypical they could not say for sure that there was any sign of cancer. The endocrinologist did an ultrasound and was a bit confused about which particular part of Mary's very inflamed thyroid gland her previous guy had biopsied, as there were a number of areas that looked like nodules but were more likely to be damage caused by the Hashimoto's disease. He finally found an area that seemed to match with the description given and did another needle biopsy, taking five slides for study. Luckily he used a different technique from the other guy, causing Mary a lot less discomfort in the process. Summing up, he has said that if these slides show anything out of the ordinary they will go ahead and remove the thyroid gland. However, there is a possible 10% danger, given the inflammation of the gland, of damage to nerves connected to the vocal chords, which are very close to the area. He's going to call her with the biopsy results in a few day's time, so we just have to keep on waiting. |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: maeve Date: 29 Feb 08 - 04:07 PM Just another few steps on the trail. Keep on walking, Mary. Jacqui, thanks so much for the update. Now you go put your feet up and have That Man rub them with some good lotion. maeve |

Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: SINSULL Date: 29 Feb 08 - 07:01 PM Just woke up. I am tired of this. I asked him point blank "Did you just say that I don't have cancer?" Well...maybe. |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: katlaughing Date: 29 Feb 08 - 07:13 PM Remember, Mary, they are plotting a road map for the best outcome. Remember how it took them five months before they would actually replace my valve? Every time I went in for a new test, they'd tell me we were one step closer. They even used the map analogy with Points of Interest being a heart cath (maybe two, I can't remember), 2 CAT scans, endoscopy, colonoscopy, xrays, myriad of blood tests, sleep tests, etc., etc.:-) It's a bitch, I know, but it is safest and will be good in the long run. luvyakat |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: gnu Date: 29 Feb 08 - 08:20 PM Awww... SINS. I been there. And we all know others that have. It sucks. But, ya gotta keep the faith, darlin... ya gotta... ya gotta... fer you and fer us. Sorry if that sounds selfish. Drink lots of cold water and walk slow eh. More thoughts and more prayers. |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: SINSULL Date: 29 Feb 08 - 08:22 PM Thanks for that, kat. I do best with "What is" other than "What may be". I never believed I had cancer and I am beginning to think I should have gone with my instincts. Meantime, Mrs. Morse is a saint. Her support and humor has made all this crap bearable (and today bareable) LOL The doctor was not amused at our antics, I think. Hospital gowns are designed for 32 AAAs. We of the womanly proportions "hang out". |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: SINSULL Date: 29 Feb 08 - 08:36 PM One last thought: my endocrinologist in Portland took the test results as gospel and made an appointment with a surgeon to have the thyroid removed. He (through his assistant ) seemed to be put out that the diagnosis was in question. I was told "We don't deal with the slides. Doctors don't question our diagnosis generally." Hence a two week delay in getting the slide to Boston. In Boston, no rush to surgery and a genuine concern for my voice which is how I make my living. No voice; no job; no house. I am frustrated with the time it is taking to figure this out but I am very grateful that these incredibly talented (and expensive) people are doing their best for me. AND put in the perspective of others here who are dealing with life threatening illnesses and terrible losses, I apologize for being such a wimp. |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: Leadfingers Date: 29 Feb 08 - 09:25 PM 'Wimp' is one word I would NEVER associate with you Mary ! |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: katlaughing Date: 29 Feb 08 - 11:17 PM Nor would I! Mary, I understand about following your instincts and also about hearing "what is" rather what might be. How frustrating that is! I am REALLY glad you have connected with the docs who are NOT in a rush! Now, I think we oughta call on the spirit of Miyamoto Musashi, or something, to take out this Hashimoto dude!:-) luvyadarlin'...kat |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: Barry Finn Date: 01 Mar 08 - 12:22 AM Mary, you're in very good hands there, it's a pain in the ass BUTT we can laugh about it later, just takes a little time wimp! Sorry, did I say wimp? I meant skirt. Hey don't worry about a wine here & there we'll set you up with all the room you need to wine with. Tacky EMPTY champ-paine bottles with lit candles to give you that whiney feeling & in side each bottle, guess what,,,,,,,a tiny nun. Feeling better already? Not yet? Keep posting, we'll have you kicking the doctor's ass in no time at all, he'll fix you up good then. LOL Barry |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: Jeri Date: 01 Mar 08 - 09:51 AM It's a good sign for a surgeon to say he thinks you may not need surgery. Usually they're the ones pushing for it. You're not a wimp, either. Everybody has their own crap to go through, and it's all different. We can help each other wade to the other side*, but we can't put the plastic suit on and wade through it for them. This is YOUR crap, Mary. Somebody else may have stinkier crap or bigger chunks, it may be deeper or thicker, it may have more fiber or little pieces of corn, but everybody's gotta go for a poop promenade at some point in their lives. This is yours, and you can bitch all you want to. *Anybody who thinks there's the possibility of a parody of a Pat Humphries song, I'm not going NEAR it! |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: ranger1 Date: 01 Mar 08 - 10:22 AM Mary, one might call you many things, but wimp is not one of them. No one can be considered a wimp for understandable fright when they've been told they have cancer. So, keep your head and your spirits up and know that we're around to encourage and abuse you in equal parts as needed. |

Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: SINSULL Date: 01 Mar 08 - 06:04 PM Musashi the man must have cut a forbidding appearance: he was said to have rarely bathed or changed his clothes as well as suffering from a somewhat disfiguring skin condition. So I am to fight Hashimoto's with bad skin and filth? Great! |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: GUEST,Dani Date: 01 Mar 08 - 08:09 PM Wimp! I've learned the people who take the best care of others (sound familiar?) often have tremendous ISSUES letting their guard down, admitting pain and fear, and letting others care for them. Sound familiar? But what a good feeling to let go, let yourself be cared for, even get tucked into bed once in a awhile, without actually giving up the pedestal for good. Here's to you, sister. Wimp on. Dani |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: katlaughing Date: 01 Mar 08 - 08:20 PM It is said that Musashi contracted eczema in his infancy, and this adversely affected his appearance.[citation needed] Another story claims that he never took a bath because he did not want to be surprised unarmed. While the former claim may or may not have some basis in reality, the latter seems improbable.[9] An unwashed member of the warrior caste would not have been received as a guest by such famous houses as Honda, Ogasawara and Hosokawa. These and many other details are likely embellishments that were added to his legend, or misinterpretations of literature describing him. *Sniff* if ya'd checked Wiki or maybe even "snopes" ya might've learned the dirt don't work, darlin'...remember all those communal baths in samurai movies? Maybe you're supposed to start bathing with friends!**bg** |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: SINSULL Date: 02 Mar 08 - 10:59 AM Communal bathing? Bad enough undressing in front of Jacqui. Now let's get this thing together huh? Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: SINSULL's Turn From: SINSULL Date: 06 Mar 08 - 08:16 AM Second (actually third) biopsy negative. It is official - I probably don't have cancer. Good enough for me. Thank you all for your support and kind offers of everything from money to cross country and international trips to keep me company.
