Subject: LYR/MUS ADD: Farewell TaeThe Haven From: John in Brisbane Date: 26 May 99 - 03:48 AM As far as I know this is a contemporary piece. I'll start with the tune of the song which I have on a compilation album from The McCalmans.

Subject: Lyr Add: FAREWELL TAE THE HAVENS^^ From: Susanne (skw) Date: 26 May 99 - 07:50 PM Here are the words:
I'm leaving the fishin', the life I have known
My father worked drifters, my grandfathers tae
Farewell tae the haven, my heart it is sad
I'll miss the wee boats, though, my thoughts are there yet
I'll work in the wire mill, it's a good job they say
The song was written by Davy Steele and is, he says, about Morrison's Haven, which no longer exists, due to the decline of the Scottish fishing trade. - Susanne See "Farewell tae the Haven" (Davy Steele) |
Subject: RE: LYR/MUS ADD: Farewell TaeThe Haven From: John in Brisbane Date: 26 May 99 - 10:23 PM Thanks Suzanne, you did a far better job than my primitive transcription of the lyrics from the CD - and saved me the typing. Did the lyrics come from a publication? Perhaps I should just post new music in future and you can add the lyrics?

Subject: RE: LYR/MUS ADD: Farewell TaeThe Haven From: Susanne (skw) Date: 27 May 99 - 08:10 PM Yes, I copied the words from the sleeve of 'Flames on the Water' by The McCalmans, where Davy added his comment. I've got quite a few songs (Scottish, English, some Irish, even less transatlantic) so if you're planning to add some tune you could eMail me via the member pages to see if I've got the lyrics. I'm in the process of putting all those notes I've collected over 30-odd years on the net as well, with the help of someone in Germany. It takes a lot of time, though - we haven't got past the letter E in six months. I'll divert the occasional note to the Mudcat ... - Susanne |
