Well now Maggie.....the sleigh has been packed and the reindeer are warming up as we speak. When the runway is cleared for take off, so to speak, your parcel will be on its way.

So don't stop being good....you don't have it yet......it's still en route......it might fall overboard....anything could happen, it's a very long way from here to there.

Do you reckon Santa would notice if I didn't put this bottle of wine back where it was?

Feel free to tuck the wine in with my box, if that's what you were thinking. If it is to keep Santa warm, tell him not to open it until after he stops at my house. ;-D

Our weather will make Santa feel right at home. Cold and overcast. But we'll leave the porchlight on!

I'm so proud of you, being in helpful mode and all. I've gathered up your pressie, and I'm preparing it to fly to you on wings of eagles (that's a hint). You're high up on the Good 'Catters List, and I couldn't even find your name in small print on the Naughty 'Catters List, so either you're extremely virtuous, or you're extremely discreet.

I'm working on it. These raindeer don't work for nothing you know. They're demanding sou'westers and wellies on expenses.

It will happen; maybe not this Christmas, but next Christmas or sometime in the future, it will happen.

Hey there, My Santa!

Sorry to be out of the loop! I'm snowed under (as you are, probably literally) out here in the Wild West! One of the problems of us getting round to Secret Santaship so late - mid October to December is always a madhouse for me! So if you wanted to get me a Personal Assistant for Christmas ... that would be just fine!

Me likes jewels! Don't generally wear danglies, but that's not to say I wouldn't ... particularly if they were from you! Dried escargot are just fine too ... I spike them on toothpicks and stake them out in the garden; a warning to local snails that I'm not to be annoyed.

Right. I've made some Rather Nice Maple Syrup tarts and some Nanaimo bars. For a drink: are we talking alcoholic, or the classic Glass of Milk?

Hey there, Chief Elf! I'm so very glad to hear that your verdict went my way, and that a pressie is coming my way too! It might have arrived already for all I know; I haven't been to the Post Office lately. I can't think that I'm all that good, though, having been away from Mudcat for lo these many days. Too busy galavanting across the Pennsylvania countryside, singing Christmas songs and such.... but I won't really be in the Christmas spirit till I'm staring at my Secret Santa's gift under my tree, trying my best to resist the urge to open it before Christmas morning!

THANK YOU, CHIEF ELF!!!!!

OK, no danglies. The Missus checked previous years, and said that's what she thought. Sorry, but the escargot (fresh and dried) are all gone. I sent them to the French forces in Afghanistan. I do have some chocolate-covered ants left.

A drink? Alcohol, to be sure-but no hot buttered rum, please. Something simple; perhaps a 150-year-old cognac in a warmed snifter, along with some shortbread biscuits. Sorry, but maple sugar tarts stick in my teeth.

Well well well, ho ho ho, so you're in the Old World now, eh? Seems like folks cross the Pond almost as easily as old Santa does, these days. So, now you know that your old Secret Santa didn't leave a present for you under any trees over there. Not that it necessarily means that your old SS didn't send a little package from where you are to where you were and will be again, just to confuse everyone. Not necessarily.

Don't know what you want with old Wacqui.c-yanta's little trinkets anyway, now that you've got that incredible GRAMMY NOMINATION!!!!! Congratulations all 'round to you, Kendall and Dan. Good on ya indeed!

Ah, well, back to the workshop. Must cobble up the last of the toys to fill the teeny corners of the sleigh. Hum hum hum...

Oh!! Thank you Santa. So. Hmmmm. Jello eh? I understand about jello. It only lurkes in the USA -- Canada maybe for all I know too though.
Jello and UK or Aus = not an option. Unless you're being very, very clever in hiding your location. And fire-lighting? Only safe if you're in snow. Be sure the reindeer's bottoms are not smoldering when they arrive here.
Complete trust in your judgement though. Have a lovely Christmas -- you and yours -- including Reindeer and all.

Joy,

I'm afraid "jello" isn't a real telling clue; if you've visited any of the Mudcat Tavern threads over the past half-dozen years or more you'll know that a "jello pit" is a major feature. Often occupied by a giant squid and various unlucky individuals. English-speaking catters the world round know about that jello pit with lime jello.

Yessiree sir m'am, very well known, so much so that it's a non-clue.

From: GUEST,Sarah's Slightly-Draggin' Sleigh-er

Sweet Sarah Of The Woodwinds,

The package, after a slight repackaging, is far enough on its way to Surrey in a hurry that it would be folly
(la-la-la, la-lah-la-lah!)
to turn back at this point and besides, I'm looking forward to secretly dropping it off....

"There were few at the scene
But they all did agree
That the sleigh-er who ran
Looked a lot like me......"

....so this fellow Kenny can die mysteriously at your party and you won't be implicated. The police will deposit it to their IRA account and go off chasing red herons, scarlet ibises and the like in their clueless manner. Yule still get your much-merited present and it should be worth your wait, maybe even in gold. A few of the elves went overboard this year.....

(No Sarah, the sleigh DOESN'T have a plank and they were forgiven because they still brought it all in under budget. Aaaaaarrrrrgh! "Yard Sales In The Sunset......")

.....So go ahead and let yourself go at your holiday bash and my scout elf can tell me just what it IS that you do at these sessions that might cause you guilt. If the elf gets it on film (or captures Kenny's demise, for that matter) it will be put on next year's account for next year's behavior scan for next year's Santa List.

But I assure you that this year's Pole-winning Santa will be a hard act to follow. (In fact, it might be a hard act to merely follow these long messages). Yule hopefully find your Claus pretty sharp this year.

So get to work drawing your cartoon portrait of Santa before you find out who she or he actually is, and if you find a good picture later on Facebook or a Cat thread, you can draw a caracature of the real thing, as well.

Or have you ventured a guess or two already?

Be good, Be-lieve!

Rest ye merry, Gentle Lady,
Your Santa

And play a good tune for me tonight of your choice.

Santa I am clueless as to your identity. I'm guessing you've taken a holiday from the North Pole to Ingerland. Once you reveal yourself (no perhaps I shouldn't have said that) I'll get pencil to paper for your portrait.

Off to kill a few Kenny's now
The party is really the same as the other sessions every Tuesday but with one exception....the invasion of pork! This consists of sandwiches (inch of bread, inch of ham, inch of bread in thickness) and garnish (pork pies cut into quarters) and if we are really lucky sausage in a basket (a basket with about a hundred chipolata sausages in it oozing with grease!)

I'll play you a tune or two

Sarah

Sarah,

Don't get a ticket for double porking. Ahhhh, The glory that is Grease!

Chopped up pigmeat for Christmas? Will there be Auld Lang Swine for New Years and Hogamany? I'm told that in America, they don't grind up their hogs until Groundhog Day itself.

So go enjoy your pork, but know that when we meat again with everything at steak, all shall be re-vealed.

I'm glad to see you have no fear of Christmas. After having a few shots tonight, you will be totally immune to Santa-Claustrophobia, Noel Cowardice and North Polio. Nothing will perish beyond your Ken, but as we've already established, poor Kenny's on his own.

So, your unarrived parcel, being still in the delivery system can be considered as "pre" even while it's still classified as "post", but I assure you that your present will be passed to you in the near future. So are you OK with the present "time-space continue-'em"? Our favorite flutist deserves to be gifted as well as talented.

You can tell me tomorrow what tunes were played with me in mind.

Rest Ye Even Merrier,
Santa

Patient, virtuous AND discreet?!? I'll get the paperwork started on your sainthood.

(ed note: one of the examples of St Nicholas' sanithood was smacking somebody during the Council of Nicea. This was held as proof of his sainthood because the Emperor Constantine did not have him executed for committing a violent act in the emperor's presence. The petty detail that Constantine agreed with Nicholas had nothing to do with it. Really.)

Joy,

If I had the gift of confab like some of our Mudcatters, I'd turn this into a song. But here's the long and short of it:

Those reindeer, the ones that hang around behind the Mudcat Tavern, they're the third string group hired by a contractor who works for me out of necessity (too many places to visit on my own any more). That group is a little hung over right now and they refused to head to your side of the planet. Something about the essence of permafrost in their veins will boil at your current temperatures.

So we've devised a little plan. This group of reindeer may be lushes, but they're fairly creative when they're hungover sober. They hauled out an old Trebuchet leftover from a television series filmed in Washington and set in Alaska. Said it managed to lob an upright grand piano across a field so it should manage this (relatively) tiny little package for you. They got out their pocket calculators and their slide rules (some are old school) and calculated that based upon the shape, weight, and wrapping of the package, plus the angle, the resistance and the thin air, they can lob this thing up over the equator and hit your property pretty easily. I've asked them to miss the house and don't bounce it off the car or they'll break all of the glass.

Yours truly,

Santa

Most of your pressie will soon be in the hands of one of Santa's favourite helpers, who has promised to deliver the package directly to you, thus cutting out the postman.

There was a little problem in completing part of your gift and that will follow on as soon as possible after the yuletide break. With luck it may be with you upon your return to the UK.

In the meantime, enjoy your Christmas with your family down there in the nether regions.

Dear Batty,
The nisser, tomter, elves, brownies and other assorted wee folk have been hauling all kinds of assorted bits 'n pieces back from wherever. I don't inquire too closely as to where or how they acquire some of these things, though. Deniability can be a good thing... Anyway, mthe package is being assembled and will be winging its way to you soon. There may even be a personal delivery involved, elves can be so handy sometimes...

Well the parcel of goodies destined for you had been loaded onto the sleigh and sent off in a northerly direction. Hopefully the snow wont impedethe journey too much and your Gifts will arrive before Christmas Day.
Have a Jolly time
Santa x

The reindeer are galloping, galloping, the elves are scurrying, scurrying, and other seasonal thingies are doing other things ending with -ing. With luck your parcel will be with you in time for Christmas. You may open the outer covering and investigate, but on no account open the rest before December 25th! It might turn into something nasty!

Alison, your package is on its way, but the reindeer cannot promise to be there in time. These new animal protection are such a hassle - apparently 24 hours of hoofing it in a row is just too much for the NPSPCA.

Your present should arrive just before Christmas if we're lucky and soon after if we're not.

HO HO HO!

Santa
