Subject: RE: Lyr Req: a Utah Phillips lyric From: Mike Regenstreif Date: 06 May 10 - 03:39 PM The song is called "Feather Ben" and was written by Peter Bowen. Rosalie Sorrels recorded it first on her Traveling Lady Rides Again album, circa 1978, and Utah Phillips learned it from her. Mike Regenstreif |
Subject: RE: Req: a Utah Phillips lyric - Feather Ben (Bowen) From: Joe Offer Date: 06 May 10 - 06:45 PM Utah Phillips recorded "Feather Ben" on a Philo LP titled All Used Up: A Scrapbook (1979). As far as I can tell, that album has not been issued on CD. The Rosalie Sorrels album Travelling Lady Rides Again has been reissued on CD and is available for purchase as various locations, but it has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Can anybody post the lyrics to "Feather Ben"? -Joe- |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Feather Ben (Peter Bowen) From: Midchuck Date: 06 Nov 12 - 12:04 PM I like that song. But after hearing it, I first heard the Austin Lounge Lizards' "Old Blevins," and found it a great deal more true to life. Peter |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Feather Ben (Peter Bowen) From: GUEST Date: 07 Nov 12 - 03:47 PM Well, I am unsure whether true to life is the exact criterion I'd apply when picking a song to learn. I suppose it's as good as any, but I am still considering whether or not "not true to life" is a reasonable criterion for not learning a song. Actually, all I wanted was the chords - - mainly because I'm too lazy to work 'em out myself. If nobody's got them, I guess I'll figure them out and post them. (Guest 999, it's on Return of the Travelin' Lady by Rosalie Sorrels, and All Used Up by Utah Phillips.) While its veracity may be in question, I still find it's worth singing. I guess what's good enough for Sorrels and Phillips is pretty much good enough for the likes of me. Pete |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Feather Ben (Peter Bowen) From: Midchuck Date: 06 Aug 13 - 12:14 PM By Peter Bowen? You mean the same guy that wrote the Gabriel DuPre books? Holy S***! I never made the association! P. |
