This table saw is designed not to cut your finger off. It's worth watching all the way through.

I noticed he wet his finger before starting...and I often wear gloves when working with power saws AND use a pusher. But it is cool!

Hmmm... and if one is doing some delicate operation and brushes, even gently, the SIDE of the blade?... pretty expensive. And I wonder about moisture sensitivity in various woods....(I use a VERY large variety of wood, both dry & moist)

I forgot... I would not use one. My concern would be flying metal from the safety device and, far worse, from a blade that failed. I'll stick to me old push-sticks.

Whenever I use a router, I place a 3/4" piece of oak plywood in my apron pouch and turn the apron 90 degrees.

Router, minds me of... I used to get a kick out of Nahhm on The Yankee Workshop : "And remember this, there is no more important... safety glasses." Then he would proceed to use every manner of shop equipment without ear protection. But what a workshop! Droool!

I'm with gnu; I'd rather lose a finger than have a shattered blade take my head half off.

My wood shop teacher back in seventh grade made his point the first day of class -- holding up his hand with one-and-a-half fingers and a thumb and saying, "These saws are perfectly safe..."

This is a pretty amazing invention. And it's not necessary for it to work for a number of times -- as long as it works the one time it's needed. Definitely not an excuse to not take safety precautions or let your attention lapse for even a nano second.

And from the "flippin'" in the title, I was expecting a thread started by SHane McBride with a link showing something about table saws and women in thongs!

Note to self - never, never assume.

I had to turn the video off when it got close to his finger. I just couldn't watch. I have two brand-new power saws I haven't used - I just can't get my fear of them.
I have other saws I HAVE used, but reluctantly....

I know a half dozen men missing fingers from saw accidents.

Google the name Julio Aparicio and read about what happened to him last Saturday. Talk about occupational hazards.

I worked in a cabinet shop for almost 5 years... I saw several near-misses, and saw one former employee after losing 2 fingers to a *shudder* dado blade at another shop.

Now, having my own shop in the basement, I have rules about what I will and will NOT do....including how close to ANY blade I will get and when to wear face shields..etc.

I have a radial-arm saw, table saw, planer, 2 band saws, 2 lathes, 2 drill presses, stationary belt sander, and more power drills and sanders and saber saws..etc. than I want to list.

20 years now, and only a small cut from hurrying a bandsaw operation, and I know all the ways they CAN get you. I intend (knock wood to retire with ALL my appendages.

I figured it was something to do with Shane too when I saw the word "flippin'". If he knew about this device, he would probably lay bets with a whole bunch of people who didn't, and try to cash in by sticking his finger (or some other appendage) into the saw blade.

They are impressive, but I have never liked being around power saws. I"d never trust this one, no matter the demo!

I can just imagine Shane having access to such a machine. He'd test it out first, using hotdogs. Then when he was absolutely sure it was safe, he would make a bet with everybody he knew that he wasn't afraid to wave his erect penis at a table saw blade, and that the mere sight of his mighty member aroused would cause the saw blade to retreat in terror!

They'd all figure he'd finally gone completely loco, and they would place bets. Don would take all the bets at the door and place them in a kitty, and usher the attendees, male and female, into the basement to witness the awesome confrontation with their own eyes!

There would be much merriment and heavy drinking prior to the death-defying act itself. Shane would get thoroughly drunk and boast and carry on about his sexual powers. The bettors would all laugh loudly and say things like, "Yer gonna sing soprano after today, ya fliphead!"

Then Shane would briefly retire into the furnace room with a flashlight and a dirty magazine....emerging a minute later sporting a mighty hard-on....and Don would throw the switch on the machine!!!

A hush would descend on the spectators as they realized "Holy flip...the flippin' idiot is ackshally gonna do it!"

And Shane would advance toward the whirring sawblade........at the last instant the gals who do the wet T-shirt act at the Iron Horse would utter shrieks of horror, and the guys would give inarticulate cries of alarm....and suddenly the saw would retract harmlessly away.

A huge yell of astonishment from the crowd! Shane beats his chest with his fist and says, "WHO IS T

Keyboard malfunction. Here is the complete version:

I can just imagine Shane having access to such a machine. He'd test it out first, using hotdogs. Then when he was absolutely sure it was safe, he would make a bet with everybody he knew that he wasn't afraid to wave his own erect penis at a table saw blade, and that the mere sight of his mighty member approaching would cause the saw blade to retreat in terror!

They'd all figure he'd finally gone completely nuts or just blind stupid, and they would place large bets in favor of the saw. Don would take all the bets in at the door and place them in a common kitty, and usher in the attendees, both male and female, into the McBride basement to witness the awesome confrontation of Shane versus the table saw!

There would be much merriment and heavy drinking prior to the death-defying act itself. Shane would get thoroughly drunk and boast and carry on about his sexual powers. The bettors would all laugh loudly and say things like, "Yer gonna sing soprano after today, ya flipheaded goof!"

Then Shane would briefly retire into the furnace room with a flashlight, some vaseline, and a dirty magazine....emerging a minute later sporting a mighty hard-on....and Don would throw the switch on the machine!!!

A hush would descend on the spectators as they realized "Holy flip...the flippin' idiot is ackshally gonna do it!"

And Shane would advance toward the gleaming, whining sharp-toothed sawblade........at the last instant the gals who do the wet T-shirt act at the Iron Horse would utter shrieks of horror, and the guys would give inarticulate cries of alarm....and suddenly the saw would retract harmlessly away from Shane's titanic tool.

A huge yell of astonishment would erupt from the crowd! Shane would beat his chest with his fist and say, "WHO IS THE CHAMP? I AM THE FLIPPIN' CHAMPEEN! NO SAW BLADE DARES TA FACE ME!"

They've got to get hold of one of those saws. This could be the big break Shane and Don have been looking for. "Freedom 35" could be more than just a dream....

Just how long is Shane's, Little Hawk? It would be difficult, if not impossible, to edge close enough to the depicted saw without getting more than one body part involved..

Interesting point, Ebbie. I think Shane and Don might have to modify the setup on the saw...or perhaps rig up some sort of harness to suspend Shane in as he makes his approach.

There has to be a way. We're talkin' serious money here...at least enough to buy a month's supply of beer AND pay for the table saw. Then take the act on the road...

I think it's a really useful innovation. It does remind me of the 3- fingered carpenter who was explaining to his friend how he lost his fingers. "Well, I was guiding the plywood into the blade like this and...Oh, shit! There goes another finger!"

I almost lost my thumb today but it wasn't with the chop saw. I was trimming a ragged end with a hand saw and managed to give my thumb a slice as it slipped. Now what's left of my thumb is all wrapped up in duct tape and bag balm.

Cheerily,
Charley "4-Finger" Noble

I am a volunteer fire fighter and we always fear the call that involves the dreaded finger (or toe)search from an unfortunate
saw or mower operator. (we have had both of these...)

Reminds me of a friend whose father cut of the pad of one of his thumbs (the inside part of the palm that moves when the thumb moves) on a table saw. It flew across the room, at the feet of his cat, who picked it up and disappeared out the door.

When the emergency responders arrived, they asked if he had the piece he had cut off so it could be reattached at the hospital. His response: "No, the God-damned cat ate it!"

My uncle's cat brought his big toe to him after the lawn mower accident and seemed quite proud about it. Unfortuantely, it was after my uncle had returned home from the hospital.

As far as the length of Shane's dick... he could easily stradle a portable table saw. They come on sale at Crappy Tire fer a c-note. Small investment for Freedom 35.
