Subject: shot in the dark From: Den Date: 03 Sep 99 - 12:53 PM This is a real shot in the dark I know but I thought some of our Brit catters may be able to help. I'm trying to remember the name of an English folk singer who sang some really funny songs. He played a classical guitar and sang with a kind Etonian accent almost like a Noel Coward type of voice. Its not a lot to go on I know but this is the cat and .....thanks Den. |

Subject: RE: shot in the dark From: Bert Date: 03 Sep 99 - 01:23 PM I have a cassette of his "On Again, On Again". Don't recall a barmaid specifically, could be "The Widow of Bridlington" who - in bar - 'danced upon the copper top, and fiddled 'till the dancers dropped' This is all I found on the forum. here Send me a personal message with your snail mail address. Bert. |
Subject: RE: shot in the dark From: Wolfgang Date: 03 Sep 99 - 01:31 PM Two minutes only, Kat, to be correct, five minutes between request and 'Thank you'. Two minutes for a meaningful response without a link, there has never been a quicker response yet, though I think I remember two or three ties. To the best of my recollection, the five minutes from request to a deserved 'thank you' are a new record. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: shot in the dark From: DougR Date: 03 Sep 99 - 08:42 PM You sure you got the right guy? From the description you could be describing Richard Dyer-Bennet. A classical folk singer from the 40s, 50s and 60s. DougR |
Subject: RE: shot in the dark From: Bugsy Date: 04 Sep 99 - 02:52 AM If you like Jake Thackery - you should also look research a british expat in Australia by the name of Bernard Bolan. His work is on a very similar vein and just as good (I think) Bugsy |
