Seems that there ain't much activity below the line tonight...

Could it be that folks are watching the election results or that marathon "I Love Lucy" rerun thing going on cable...

I just got a note from my friend, Angus King who is the projected winner in the race for the seat that Senator Snowe quit last Spring.
I knew he could do it.

Romney is holding a 3%-6% lead in the popular vote.

Right about what I predicted at 5.9%.

He can still lose if a few "swing states" go the wrong way, but that is unlikely.

Democrats can be happy about the Senate which shows a possible blowout, even though many more Democrats were up this cycle.

I'm wrong... The Dems are going to take 2-3 more seats in the Senate...

Obama ain't gonna have the dream Senate but he's gonna have a better one...

Things lookin' good for Dems...

PA called for Obama. NH called for Obama. Both states Romney had hopes for.

CO senator says CO will go for Obama--have no idea what his logic is.

Could be a long night--unless OH is called for Obama. If so, Romney's path gets very narrow.

Romney's crowd at his HQ is subdued at this point.

Elizabeth Warren wins in MA.   That was not a slam-dunk--even in a Democratic state.    Scott Brown knew how to tailor his appeal.   And she had some baggage.

After all ... after the hooopala dies down things will remain the same old, same old mess ... let's face it kids, whomever wins will be controlled by the corporate/miltary oligarchy that's been running the show since around the Reagan days.

I have been going back and forth, radio and TV. NPR goes to the local station and we have a hotly contested local race to listen for news of. PBS is just national, but I listen there because I don't want to fool with the local commercial network stations.

That said, I'm going to give the news a time out and watch a movie, just to do something totally non-political this evening.

Stilly, Henry Krinkle can't stand either Obama or Romney. He already said he voted Green in this election, and he knows the Green Party isn't going to win, obviously.

Most Canadians (myself included) will be delighted if Romney loses...and it looks like he has. His brand of politics would sink like a stone in Canada. He'd be lucky to get even 1/4 of the vote here.

Those of you who aren't watching on TV are in fact missing something. It's not anything any talking head says.   But just seeing the Obama crowd---we really are a melting pot, affirming the picture of 2008.   And the GOP are dinosaurs who are just sinking in their own tarpit--aging white males (and some aging white females) (Looks like Romney took the majority of both--but the days of that being enough are over.)

Especially the incredibly stupid attitude they have on immigration.

Now maybe that will start changing. (Don't hold your breath.)

MSNBC is giving the Pres to Obama, with only Florida, Vermont, and Nevada uncounted.

Theres a fair chance that Dems will take the majority in the Senate, with about 6 seats undecided; but since the only thing that counts in the Senate is who's chairman in the committees and can block anything that might help from coming to the floor for consideration, that's not too significant.

The Repugnantcrats only need 10 undecided seats in the House to get an even split, with 75 still undecided; but that doesn't matter as long as nothing can come out of the Senate. (About 75 seats still undecided.)

(MSNBC.com has about as good a "tracker" as I've found, and shold be as reliable as any; but they're redirecting to an "election results" page that I haven't been able to snatch a useful url from to make a link. You might find it by just putting "msnbc.com" in your browser(?)) - if you care.

After this election, it will be interesting to see which polling companies were skewing results in hopes of influencing the election. It would be great to see them skewered (hoisted on their own) and bankrupted (fucked) as a result. IMO.

My son is enthusiastic about the possibility of a Spanish-speaking 51st state: Puerto Rico again had a non-binding referendum on its future, and for the first time a clear majority voted in favor of statehood. I'm not exactly sure why this particularly catches his fancy, but, why not? (I don't see it happening soon, anyway...)

My college was one of the few that had a long standing tradition of teaching the field. I currently work for a state conservation agency that would be doing a better job if we could get rid of the political hacks who get the plum positions and then obstruct the work at the behest of their political sponsors.

I try to leave as small a carbon footprint as I can and still get to work. I support genetic modification as a tool - but deplore its abuse by the agrichemical industry. I own a small farm that is low input and mostly pasture or woodlot. I practice and live what I preach, how about the rest of you nay sayers?

Nobody claims the US election system is perfect---in contrast to the UK system, which of course is a model for the world.   This is why the UK electorate is so happy with its current leadership.

The idea that the US system is perfect is what is known as a straw man.   Perhaps, Richard, as a lawyer, you've heard of this concept?

By the way, if you have proof--as opposed to allegations-- of tampering with voting machines in 2012, please provide a link. Obviously we would seek to eliminate any such tampering.

And, yet again, since you seem to be amazingly slow on the uptake, the main problem with dwelling on possible corruption, rather than the importance of voting, is that it encourages people not to vote--already a huge problem in the US.

The focus should always be on raising turnout.

We got gay marriage in Maryland, now. Guess all married heteros should bar the doors. I don't 'zacly know if single heteros considering marriage, or singles studiously *avoiding* marriage are also at risk? Maybe gays should bar the doors, too, to protect *themselves* from marriage??

With the doors barred, what would be an appropriate weapon with which to scare off the marriage attackers? Would it be a pump shotgun? A semi-automatic, like .45 or 9MM? Perhaps a six-shot .357 or .44 magnum? All of the above? Or how about a Bible? A Quaran? How about a manifesto of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs? Book of Cells? How about a bucket of various sugar thingies that you give out to all comers in onsies and twosies?

Or maybe nothing, because there is *no real threat;* only a *perceived* one!

Saul

Colorado and Washington approved the sale of marijuana for recreational use. This should be interesting!

We don't need a Green Party... we just need all other parties to THINK Green as part of their platform. Obama will do as well as anyone to push 'green' ideas.....in the face of entrenched interests.

I watched way too many ads by the coal & oil industries the last few months.... but those people MUST be dealt with until they see a way to make $$$$ making green changes.

exactly... and I would suggest that anyone interested in what is being done by this administration to promote green industry, etc. -sign up for the EPA's free newsletter & updates.

this administration is doing alot to make the federal government more transparant.. and I applaud their efforts.

these were copied from that last few emails I had in my inbox

the point is, that Obama has mandated that federal agencies become more open and provide the public with accessible information...

and agencies have done a better job than others.

Mustang Ranch brothel owner Lance Gilman has a new job...wins as county commissioner.

He defeated a fellow Republican for the position.

Says his business experience will be very helpful in doing the job.

I personally prefer Democratic policies, but am shocked by how few African Americans prefer a Republican, these days - in one state, 93% voted for Obama..? My poem on "Americans" - http://www.myspace.com/walkaboutsverse/blog/455408778

It really doesn't help the GOP appeal to blacks when for some reason all the "birthers" seem to be of that party.   And the problem goes back at least to the "Southern Strategy".

No great mystery.

Yeah, the Southern Strategy has become a curse for the Republicans... It won't win them national elections... Good for Tea Party, though...

Hey Bobert, we should be glad if the Tea Party takes over the GOP.    Their connection with reality is getting progressively more tenuous.

Heard an interview today with a Tea Party bigwig in which he more than once asserted that the Tea Party is still going to repeal Obamacare.

He did say it might not be easy.

That's putting it mildly-especially since the Supreme Court has already upheld its constitutionality.

Coming next: clashes between the federal government and states which refuse to carry it out.

Further to my above post, unless the U.S.A. is to be run by a council of Native Americans, ideally ALL citizens would put policy before ethic background...but did that happen..?

I'd be very surprised if any states actually refused to implement Obamacare, regardless of what politicians may have said during an election campaign.

But my perceptions of Republican rationality were formed many, many years ago. This is a new breed, many of whom, as I've said elsewhere, don't even know what "conservative" means.

Supposedly some states will refuse to set up the insurance pools which are part of Obamacare. So the federal government will do it for them--and no doubt some of those states will whine about federal interference in state matters.
