Subject: If I could relive that hour
From: lloyd61

When I turned my clock back the morning I could not help but think about reliving the past hour, and what hour this past year would I like to relive. Maybe the hour I had a harsh word that I can't take back, or was it the hour wasted trying to learn a dumb song I will never use. There is a song in this thought somewhere, Maybe it could be called; "If I could relive this (or That) Hour."

Do you have an hour you would like to relive? I have many.

This year it would be the hour that my student Elihu,(he claimed, rightly to being the only Newfoundlander without rhythm) finally broke through and became an autoharp player. He's worked so hard for 6 years, and music has been incredibly difficult for him, but one Wednesday morning he suddenly could play! We sat and improvised hymns (that's all he wants to play) for an hour and he heard all the chords and kept a solid rhythm. He's a missionary in the Carribean and has wanted to join in with the jam sessions after their "school and church building" projects for many years now. I think he's gonna have a ball. He's been the student I had to work hardest with, and that night Heather and I toasted his dedication.

That's wonderful, Rick! I am sure it happened, too, because of your patience and encouragement as an incredibly kind teacher.

Lloyd, such a thoughtful idea. I would like to relive an hour of last Christmas, with my mom, taking more time to be one on one with her, since it was her last.

Would also like to erase an hour of all the harsh words my youngest and I had for each other when she moved out a year ago last August.

The one hour I'd really like to live over is the night Roger told me he loved me.

Thanks, Lloyd,

kat

At the Getaway, Bert, Dani, Moonchild, Cara, and I slipped away from everyone else and found an empty building in which to play and sing. We were joined after a brief time by Flawn Williams (who sang in a workshop as well as later on in performance with Uilleand). We did a simple sing-around for about an hour. The acoustics were wonderful and we were singing our lungs out because the building made us sound so good! We chatted between songs, discussing song histories, etc. and even had a bunch of live "thread drift". Nobody was perfect. We forgot words, sang in the wrong keys, played the wrong chords - it was great! It was one of the finest hours I have ever spent. Luckily, I taped the whole thing. I will be sending the tape to Max in the next few days. Maybe he will share some of it with the rest of you on the radio show.

When I saw this thread title and the opening post, I knew exactly which hour from my life I would love to re-live. I have few regrets in my life, and it is very much out of character for me to wish I had made a different choice ... but if I could undo the heartbreak I caused my wife some years ago, I would do it in a heartbeat. I can't change the past. I can change the future. So that is my new focus.

Until recently I have regretted very little about my life and I have been thrilled beyond measure by most of it. To relive hours I'd have to think about redoing or undoing some things. All things done have reults, to undo would change those results. But still there was atime when I was 22 that I'd like the chance to say some diferent words.

I would have to second Allan's feelings about that one hour at the getaway with just the five of us singing and playing. It was an incredibly intimate space in time and an incredible bonding of the individuals present. I won't ever forget it ... moonchild

I was very young and so was she. She has a husband and children now... but the answer is 'yes.'

All the best,

Ah, one is not enough! I've never regretted doing anything in my life (well, maybe that fifth Tequila slammer) but regret not doing things more often... My hour would be the one I spent with my first love, Paul. We had to split in 1978 - his mother did not like me, can't think why - and accidentally met up again in September 1982. We spent about an hour together, reliving old times, and discovered that we still felt the same about each other. We parted, promising to get in touch later that month. Within a week, he was dead, drowned in a windsurfing accident. The hour we spent was just unforgettable, and all too short. In the words of a sports manufacurer - just do it.

I would like to re-live the last hour of my wife's life with the knowledge that it was her last hour.

I once thought that, but when it came to actually watching my adopted grandfather and later my father slide away, I couldn't bear it. Living those last few hours with them was more than I could do then, there is no way I could do it knowing it was the last. If a person doesn't know you love them, then you aren't telling them enough now, when they can understand. That's what I mean by just do it. Because one day, you won't be able to.
