Folk Legacy Records are now available on Amazon. Moving with the times, I guess, with digital downloads. Anyway, I was shocked and honored to be first guy to review Arnold Keith Storm and Grant Rogers. It would be nice if those of you who know this label or the individual artists or know the Patons would step up to the plate and help introduce Folk Legacy to a new generation of listeners.

And feel free to pan my reviews. Especially the Grant Rogers review. I lost the notes that come with the Folk Legacy CD, and I wasn't sure if Grant Rogers wrote 'When a Fellow is out of a Job' or if Pete Seeger wrote it. Like taking a final exam, I put down Pete Seeger, but checking my answer, I really think Grant Rogers wrote it. Please help me out here. If you correct me on this, I'll apologize in front of God and everybody.

Me, I'll continue to do business directly with Folk Legacy. Caroline has helped match my taste to my purchase, always takes the time to talk to me, tells me anecdotes about the artists I love, and treats me like a friend, not just a customer. I like Amazon, but they're not my friend. And they're not in the business of finding real people who make real music. Folk Legacy is.

They're also available on emusic, so I'd guess they're also on itunes and other online sources. I hope they put the wonderful liner notes online like Smithsonian Folkways did.

Yeah, I was delighted to see they were on eMusic. My emusic sub is basically all the recorded music I listen to, and at the moment each month I basically just get Topic and Folk Legacy albums.

A Folk Legacy records search on Aamazon is exactly what I did. Unfortunately, it brings up an awful lot of non-FL stuff that I can only describe as dreary and drivellous. But stick with it. The gems are there in plenty.

Anyway, I was delighted to find a second hand Frank Proffitt disc that I hadn't got. It's the memorial album which FL issued after Frank's death, and which I was never able to get hold of in Britain. What's more the disc was described as "Like New" and priced at less than £10-00. What's even more is it's now winging its way towards me just as I key this in.

Now that is just the sort of thing I need to brighten a dreary Tuesday morning.

And thanks Fred McCormick for looking. I've found that if you type either "Folk Legacy" or "Folk-Legacy" you'll get mostly their stuff. If you type "Folk Legacy" or "Folk-Legacy" + the artist's name, it will narrow your search considerably.

And thanks Desert Dancer for all the cool links. My main purpose here was to get some of you to write reviews on the Folk-Legacy artists or folk singers or whatever they should be called. It's pretty obvious that FLR is relatively new to the MP3 download world. Comments by reviewers create interest which helps create a new generation of listeners and amateur players like myself to carry on the tradition.

And no, I have no financial interest in this enterprise. I'm just a guy that likes good music, and likes to see good music recognized as such.

I use Amazon's UK store, but only the market place, where other traders advertise. I'm afraid there are too many ethical issues surrounding Amazon itself for me to want to make any purchases directly from them.

Someone told me there was a thread, or query, on Mudcat where someone was looking for the notes and lyrics booklet for a downloaded Folk Legacy recording. Every recording purchased directly from Folk Legacy, be it a CD, Cassette, or LP, has the booklet sent with it at no charge. For downloads, as well as, recordings purchased from a third party source, such as Amazon, Sidestreet Records, or City Hall Records, we offer the booklet at a $2 charge to cover the printing, postage, and handling. This applies to US mailing. There may be a higher charge to cover postage outside the US.

it was great seeing Duane, Barbara & Caroline ( of course!) at NEFFA. Even more fun pawing through the CDs and stuff at their table... almost missed one workshop due to lingering- trying to remember which LPs I replaced with CDs. Oldtimers :(

Hi, Garg - This thread (click) makes it sound like the 2013 Old Songs festival was "CAMSCO's Last Stand," but I think I recall they were selling CDs at the Getaway in October 2013. I know Dick intends to keep at least part of the business going, but maybe just the book publishing. Dick told me he and Susan wanted to spend more time enjoying festivals, and less time working at them. I had the impression they were just getting out of the business of selling CDs at festivals, but I see the http://camscomusic.com/ Website is not working. Don't know if that's just a temporary problem, or what.

Musket. I wouldn't touch Amazon's main retailing business with a barge pole. That's because they pay abominable wages and screw their workers for every ounce of sweat they can get out of them. That's it. Right in the true spirit of Thatherism. Plus, they register their business abroad, thereby avoiding paying the taxes which their underpaid workers have to pay. And that's in the true spirit of Thatcherism as well.

However, if you knew your way round Amazon you would realise that other retailers advertise on the Amazon website, under a feature called the Marketplace. I regard usage of this as ethical, well a bloody sight more ethical than dealing with Amazon direct at any rate. That's because Amazon workers don't have to handle the goods. They come direct from whoever you ordered them from.

Also, while Amazon take 15% of the purchase price for running the adverts, that isn't exactly going to swell their already burgeoning profits. That's why I chuckle quietly to myself every time I buy a book on Amazon Marketplace for just 1p. In case you can't work it out, Amazon's share on such a sale would be 0.15p. By 'eck. The directors are really going to live the life of Riley on that!

Mind you, you won't get quite such a bargain on The Enemy Within: The Secret War Against the Miners - 30th Anniversary Edition by Seumas Milne. That's the definitive book on the dirty tricks campaign, which the establishment waged against the miners, by the way. The cheapest they've got listed at the moment is £6.58 from Wordery, a very good company, with whom I've dealt quite a lot. Even so you should read it. You never know, it might help broaden your horizon.

And no, I don't know whether Amazon sells Bulgarian umbrellas or knuckle dusters, or any of the other things you might need to kick the shit out of striking miners. Bit of a dead loss from that point of view.
