Its amazing!

Andy Warhol exhibition in the newly refurbished Dunoon Burgh Hall for three months under the ARTIST ROOMS scheme!
We have (I think) 34 specially selected items from the collection of Anthony d'Offay.

The picture that greets you as you enter is Robert Maplethorpe - an acknowledgement of the Maplethorpe photographic exhibition we hosted 5 years ago in a specially constructed gallery within the poor ruined old 1874 hall prior to the refurbishment.

A bonus is that BBC4 has had a couple of documentaries on recent Tuesdays 21.30-01.30 (I think) on the rise of Pop Art and one on Andy Warhol in particular- - a real help to understanding and remembering the era!

Entry is free - tho donations welcome!

- We owe a huge debt of gratitude to John McAslan and Dava Sagenkahn

Might try to get to that.

My initial reading of the title was that somebody had opened a boutique hotel and in one suite everything was Campbell's soup cans. It would probably be more livable than the Francis Bacon Crucifixion Room.

Nicola Sturgeon visited The Burgh Hall today!
She saw the Warhol exhibition, also met John McAslan, the staff and volunteers who are developing the activities and events; she was shown the amazing transformation of the 1874 building that had become a semi ruin.

Travel suggestions Jack - by car you might use the scenic route in one direction (Loch Lomond / Arrochar/Rest and Be Thankful /Glen Croe to A815 Dunoon turn-off / Loch Eck--- bring your camera as on a still day the reflections are stunning.) and the M8/A8/Western Ferries in the other direction BUT -- ask me about where to purchase car-driver tickets as they are twice the price on board!

For a memorable journey you might check the PS Waverley timetable and get yourself to Glasgow (perhaps the night before, find a folk session - if Waverley leaves early am?) then disembark at Dunoon (check it is a 'Dunoon' sailing!)
- you can either return by Waverley or choose to catch Argyll Ferries to Gourock then train to Glasgow. Or McGills 907 bus from Dunoon to Glasgow Buchanan then bus or train to Edinburgh.

Just a few ideas for a wee day oot!

The last motor vehicle I drove was a forklift truck in 1974. I would never consider owning a car - destructive piles of shit.

I've been to Dunoon several times by ferry and bus from several directions. It's not difficult from Edinburgh. I'm still using an Australian purple beach rucksack that I bought from a Dunoon charity shop as my main instrument bag.

well if I lived in a city I'd not need a car either- - sadly there is a lack of public transport here and most of my social life and activities are in the farther reaches of Cowal and mid-Argyll -- distances and hills too great for cycling even when I was young and fit! So a car is essential -- tho most of us endeavour to share transport when we can.
I actually think fuel should be cut price in the country / remote areas where we need cars to get around, and extremely expensive in the cities!
- My dentist recently acquired an electric car (after much study, bargain hunting and support from the Scottish government) - that seems like the way to go?

Way off topic and I'm not going to pursue it, but electric cars are a lot more environmentally destructive than petrol ones. Most of the resource use by car takes place before its first owner ever gets into it, and the manufacture of batteries and other high-tech materials is far more damaging than making steel or refining fuel. (In particular, transnational mining companies are in the process of killing millions of people in central Africa to ensure their supplies of coltan - Amnesty has some horrifying reports on this).

There is no such thing as a sustainable car. They are all weapons of war against the future.
