In lieu of Thanksgiving travel this year I went to the nearest parallel universe where I am am glad to say there is no pandemic. However Trump is still President there so I returned the same day. It was an empty trade off coming home.

If you are offering me a blunderbuss this is a nice one in 10 gauge; they also have one in 4 gauge. This kit is on USD 999.99, too, and I get to put it together. I have found that a blunderbuss is quite a good argument not to "stand and deliver" a coach!

No, I haven't been doing either in the past few months. First the SARS-Covid-19 and now surgery recovery. I probably won't make the Christmas party either. Now, as the song says, the ground is white...and going to the range in winter can be iffy. Sliding off an icy road that clings to the side of hill can test your seat belts! It's also cold and windy up there. But a set of longjohns and a good coat and hat and gloves...well, maybe.

On February 10 I present a program called something like "The Recent Crime Spree in Idaho: 1840-1910 or so" for the local continuing education group (New Knowledge Adventures, or NKA). I've done these before; this one will concentrate on names like David Updycke, Boon Helm, Henry Amos Plummer, Marion More, Jack Slade, and a few others. Bear in mind that the towns of Bannack and Virginia City, Montana were in the Idaho Territory in 1864.

In the meantime, I recuperate and play my horn. Speech therapist, a wonderful person and fellow trumpeter, said it would be excellent exercise for tongue and cheek muscles -- much better than the tongue push-ups I thought he'd order.

Swallowing is still a problem and will be for a while.

It looks like Pinterest is going all in for the one person Thanksgiving. Be the first on your block to get the Siri and Siri like apps to create a dialog of the crazy Thanks giving uncle, the critical mother in law, crying kids, Debbie Downer and Karen like creatures.
Toys are also influenced by current events like "Don't breathe on me" Elmo, "i'm so worried" Telly and "EV'RYTHING IS GREAT" Trumpybear.

Some recipes are easy to prepare like the 6 five hour energy shots on a plate and goblet of Gin.

For the first time in a long time the dining table is in good shape as far as easily clearing and setting for Thanksgiving. Especially since it only needs room for one place-setting. MOM can bring some of her gin over and we'll sit out on the back patio and watch the dogs chase squirrels after dinner.

Monsters like children of white supremacists or the SS sound dangerous but it all depends on how they were raised and carefully taught.
My step dad Nate was 100% Jewish.
He was a clerk in the US Army in London but saw action in Germany at the end of the war. By clever paper schuffling and clerk magic fairy dust he managed to adopt me from a Liebensborne orphanage in Dusseldorf at the urging from a rabbi that said it would be a mitzvah and atonement for killing nazis. While most GI's were bringing home booty, my step dad brought me to America to meet my step mom in the midwest. My biological parents were probably strangers to each other but its unknown with no German documents. As a pig in a poke I was probably a disappointment since I was not a scholar or avid reader early on due to dyslexia I discovered decades later. I did very poorly with languages.

Starting with Hebrew study to be bar mitvahed I was given the choice of religious studies or not. I chose not, but more or less I identified with the culture.
Later on I heard that Ghandi advised a Hindu to adopt a Muslim man's son after the tragic killing of the father and bring up the boy as a Muslim to attone. There were a couple of moral parallels with my adoption but sort of opposite to my history. One thing is for sure - I'm walking proof that there was no German master race unless it was Eienstien .
One possible irony was that my first girl friend, Priscilla Stephanie von Dieseldorf, from Guatamala was the child of a German couple who escaped Germany in the 40's and joined the grandfather who was an archeologist unearthing the Mayan civilization.
What does all this mean? Mostly that Ancestry.com would be a waste of my time, nurture trumps nature and that kids of the KKK turn out krazy if raised by dad. :^/

I'm home. Instead of three nights in the resort I spent one. However! The hypoglossal nerve was stretched, and so I have difficulty with some speech patterns, eating, and swallowing. I'm told it will get back to normal in a couple of weeks, but I'll be doing "tongue strengthening" exercises in the meantime.

Home health care comes tomorrow afternoon for "admitting." If you want to see a picture of my wound, I'll send you one via email. I can't imagine why you'd want to.

Sweet exquisite pain. There is such a thing. Like when I laughed surprisingly when they set my broken ankle. But last night wasn't funny. I thought of Tom Hanks in Castaway who was in so much tooth pain that he had to improvise. This morning I had a root canal and I am glad it took only 15 minutes. Was it worth the risk, I'll know in 14 days. Oh sweet relief.

Carotid stents are not his treatment of choice. He opens the artery, uses a plunger first and then a Roto-rooter machine and hopes he doesn't bust the pipe.

Seriously, he said stents can cause plaque to build up on the surface. I have to believe the surgeon because I'm not up to doing this myself.
