Just noticed that it's not been mentioned, and I thought it good to acknowledge the happy news that Shirley Collins has a new record about to come out - 'Heart's Ease', her second release since 2016's comeback album 'Lodestar'.

It's mainly traditional pieces, including revisitations of songs from earlier in Shirley's career.

My very great pleasure - it's very exciting! Though the special edition isn't the cheapest, there's some wonderful bonus items that are part of it, so it still seems like good value to me.

Thanks for the info re new Shirley Collins music - and the fascinating article via the link. In my ‘tradition’ and mediations, Shirley would rank very high. She was one of the singers who made me aware of folk music a long way back and her experiments with Davy Graham and her sister the late Dolly Collins displayed ways to expand the field further, without resorting to ideological attempts at clunky lockdowns. The article is a seed to plant, perhaps... Catling, Coil, Cope, one of my favourite directors Derek Jarman and the long speculative reach of Audrey Burl plus the musics being given perhaps a trajectory into this little patch...

Absolutely with you on Shirley and Dolly. I was very privileged to be one of the producers of The Ballad of Shirley Collins documentary.

Actually just received today the Tony Rose LP that Dolly plays on, Under the Greenwood Tree, too - first record purchase of lockdown!

And, that’s really kind of you to say, many thanks for the feedback on the Burl article! I wrote it almost by accident, out of amazement at the lack of other obituaries. It was great to have the freedom to make those connections.

Anybody know when the documentary "Southern Journey (Revisited)" will be generally available for streaming/viewing/purchase? Understand it was released to cinemas in the UK in September.

I think it's showing in cinemas both physically and as 'virtual' streaming screenings for now. Presumably it will go to general streaming late this year/early next.

I wasn't directly involved with this one, but I'm seeing the Directors (Rob Curry and Tim Plester) on Monday, so I'll ask!
