BS: spring into summer?

This holiday weekend (USA),
weather where I am staying
is to go up to 80 degrees Fahrenheit
which is very warm for May.

Anyone else facing high temperatures,
or even high humidity and temps?

We've had two weeks of beautiful weather in Cornwall. Wall-to-wall sunshine almost every day. No heatwave but day temperatures around 18-20°C. We got to 23°C today. It's forecast to carry on like this for at least another week. Great for working outdoors and great for just sitting around and having barbies (as long as you don't leave it too late: the sun sets at about 9.20 but it's beginning to lose its anti-brr factor at about 8.15). We're making the most of it. I think May will bust our sunshine records but, though warmer than average (daytime max in Cornwall should be around 17°C in late May), I don't think temperature records will be broken. But with strong sun at UV 7 or 8, who cares!

I've been sitting on The Bench in our front garden (south-facing) for many days, and I'm now as brown as a berry. I never mind strong heat (I can stand any heat, even in Africa!). Husband says I'm visibly turning into an African!
I always keep some cans of Diet Coke in the fridge to hand to the poor binmen, postman and couriers who look half-dead in the heat.
The forecast for the Bank Holiday is looking good - constant sunshine and warmth. But sadly, they've been rather inaccurate lately.

As winter approaches in Australia, I have added some giant Australian ferns to an eclectic patch of yard. They are 5 to 6 feet tall!
I wonder if they feel confused. One is semi-tropical and will come indoors in the fall.

Very un-Scottish weather up here too: mainly constant sunshine and daytime temperatures in the lower 20s C -and supposed to last at least another week!

Summer into spring at the moment:
temperatures have dropped, it is cloudy,
and thunderstorms are possible.

Also contributing is the fire smoke,
which makes the sky hazy and the atmosphere stifling.

This seems to be the new nature-watch thread, so 'yere goes:

I just this afternoon saw, threading its way up through the wisteria on our fence, a high-flying foxglove, with its flower-head about six or seven feet off the ground. What I'd like to know is: how are the foxes supposed to reach it?

After a hot, dry spring, southwestern Ontario turned chilly and damp about a week ago. All within the normal range for this area of climatic extremes, but disconcerting when the furnace has to start up again after Victoria Day if one is to get any sleep. Yesterday's high was 18C; normally it's more like 27C. Last Monday, the thermometer never struggled above 13C. Oh, and there's still smoke in the air.

However, next week's long-range forecast looks more normal -- sunny and hot.

Now, a few days before the summer solstice, it's beginning to feel like summer over here.
Meanwhile, in the Hudson River Valley not far from here,
the vineyards are calculating their losses from
a late frost in mid-May -- some have lost almost everything.

Down yer in Cornwall we are hearing of deluges and flash floods up country. Well we've had a mere dribble today, and we've had a quarter of an inch of rain since May 14 and masses of sunshine. We're parched and I don't need to cut my grass. Weee!

Summer solstice is in two days which means that the days will start shortening. Already. Never seems quite right. (Although I do like winter, and Autumn is my favorite season... so pooh.)

Well, the summer solstice has come and gone,
and the weather here is rainy and muggy.
At least the nights are no longer so chilly,
and still cool enough to sleep in comfort.

to be fair, summer heat is a factor,
so it is more summery than it is springlike.
