Subject: RE: Shirley Collins 2023 CD Archangel Hill From: Hagman Date: 18 Jun 23 - 09:37 PM Shirley cracks a feature in the August MOJO - six pages, with some lovely photos. Tagged as a "pugnacious pioneer of the folk revival," which sounds fair enough.... |
Subject: RE: Shirley Collins 2023 CD Archangel Hill From: Dave the Gnome Date: 14 Jun 23 - 06:37 AM I must admit that my introduction to Shirley's work was on No Roses after I had already fell in love with Maddie Prior and Steeleye Span! The Albion Band and Shirley became, for me and unfairly in hindsight, runners up in my own mind. I filed Shirley away and her withdrawal from singing did nothing to rectify that. Until now! This album is a stunner and Shirley's voice has aged well. Firmly on my play list now :-D |

Subject: RE: Shirley Collins 2023 CD Archangel Hill From: Stilly River Sage Date: 06 Jun 23 - 03:44 PM Hagman, you sent me a very long post via PM, but it looks like something you intended to post on Mudcat? It appears to be the article we were talking about on the other Shirley Collins thread, about The Big Interview. I'm responding here because it's where you last posted, but let me know if that's what you had in mind. |

Tsk, Tsk..... :-) (Had the good fortune of seeing Shirley and Peter Bellamy as a duo here in Melbourne on that '80 tour. Sensational solo performances, and they did some duets.) |

Subject: RE: Shirley Collins 2023 CD Archangel Hill From: mikechatty Date: 05 Jun 23 - 10:04 AM It was a treat to hear her singing Hares on the Mountain in a new arrangement! I'd just sat down and learned the Davy Graham version a few weeks ago so it's becoming a personal favorite. |
