Shirley cracks a feature in the August MOJO - six pages, with some lovely photos. Tagged as a "pugnacious pioneer of the folk revival," which sounds fair enough....

I must admit that my introduction to Shirley's work was on No Roses after I had already fell in love with Maddie Prior and Steeleye Span! The Albion Band and Shirley became, for me and unfairly in hindsight, runners up in my own mind. I filed Shirley away and her withdrawal from singing did nothing to rectify that. Until now! This album is a stunner and Shirley's voice has aged well. Firmly on my play list now :-D

I met Shirley at her book signing in Halifax a year or so ago, an absolutely delightful friendly lady.

(Had the good fortune of seeing Shirley and Peter Bellamy as a duo here in Melbourne on that '80 tour. Sensational solo performances, and they did some duets.)

It was a treat to hear her singing Hares on the Mountain in a new arrangement! I'd just sat down and learned the Davy Graham version a few weeks ago so it's becoming a personal favorite.
