Subject: RE: The Skye Boat Song From: MGM·Lion Date: 13 Jan 10 - 01:55 PM No reason why he shouldn't I suppose, Kendall — after all, the present lot spell Saxe-Coburg-Gotha -- "W-I-N-D-S-O-R". But he will probably need Scottish Parliamentary & Lyon Heraldic authorisation to reign in that name when he ascends the Throne of Caledonia. I am glad he doesn't claim the English throne also, as I happen to know the rightful holder of that — or at least I did; but I think I heard he had died without issue, so I am not quite sure where we are on that one... |
Subject: RE: The Skye Boat Song From: Jim McLean Date: 13 Jan 10 - 04:50 PM Pig watcher/Steward/Stewart/Stuart ... I have nothing against the name Stewart/..... but as a republican (in the Scottish sense rather than American) the Royal House was like those before and and after, a shower of chancers. MtheGM, lighten up, you sound like some prissy old school mistress. |

Subject: RE: The Skye Boat Song From: GUEST,TJ in San Diego Date: 14 Jan 10 - 03:49 PM My Scots ancestors were Stuarts, for all that's worth in this discussion. I recall going to a grand event many years ago (1950's)where members of The Black Watch touring group sang this song. Done so dramatically, with a male chorus and bagpipes, it was haunting indeed. I speak musically, of course, not politically. It was my first impression of the piece, which I have heard many times since, but never to such lasting effect. |
Subject: RE: Chords Req: The Skye Boat Song From: GUEST,Mal Perth Australia Date: 27 Mar 11 - 12:35 PM Roger Whittaker does a version with whistling, sounds like seagulls flying overhead, gives a haunting feeling to the song. I have it only on L.P.recording from 1980 titled Feelings, a double album |
