Subject: Mary Coughlan: Auld Lang Syne From: Edi Date: 21 Jun 00 - 07:58 AM Some years ago I saw in a Phil-Cunningham-Show at BBC 2 Mary Coughlan singing "Auld Lang Syne" in an exceptional mood. I never heard it again. Is there any CD or Video where it is recorded? |

Subject: RE: Help: Mary Coughlan: Auld Lang Syne From: Jim McLean Date: 31 Aug 09 - 12:41 PM I'm not sure of this but did she sing the 'other' melody which is not the standard one? I've noticed some singers doing this in attempt to show Burns original tune to which he set Auld Lang Syne. This tune, however, and a version of Auld Lang Syne set to it, predates Burns. Ramsey and Thomson both printed the song with slightly different words but the same melody before Burns. |
