Subject: Lyr Add: KAPPA ALPHA DINNER SONG (Auld Lang Syne) From: Allan C. Date: 19 Aug 03 - 12:43 PM I recently discovered a book containing the history of the Kappa Alpha society. In it I found the "Kappa Alpha Dinner Song" which was written to the tune of "Auld Lang Syne". I think the lyrics are probably worth preserving here: KAPPA ALPHA DINNER SONG Lyrics by Levi Hubbell, written for and first sung at a meeting held on March 4, 1826 1. Of old the wits of genial heart In festive conclave joined; For eating doth alone impart True pleasures to the mind. CHORUS: Then let us banish hence the bowl, For Bacchus hath no part Where wit and feasting rule the soul, And friendship warms the heart. 2. Ambition is a foe to rest And love's a wasting fire; But peace and friendship rule the breast When eating clogs desire. 3. Should fame or honor chill the heart And Reason's self be blind, Still eating hath a charming art To soothe and calm the mind. 4. Then be the cord of Union strong That ties our social band; While eating doth dull life prolong We'll pledge the heart and hand. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Kappa Alpha Dinner Song (Auld Lang Sy From: Allan C. Date: 19 Aug 03 - 02:36 PM Hey, I never said I agreed with the philosophies stated in the lyrics. They appear to be against drinking, ambition and love while claiming life to be dull. On the other hand, they are in favor of eating and friendship. I can readily agree on that. |
