This thread is, on so many levels WRONG....
However, I kinda dig a little wrong. Thanks for the laffs folks. You guys have made my day. Cow-orkers and co-techs...
I did think that I would be able to slide one M&M joke into this thread, but alas, all the ones I had thought of were used...

Wow... and now I can try to totally hijack it in another direction, thanks to Caitrin!

Caitrin! You do lighting design?

VERY cool!

We've had some questions about lighting around here, and I do have a somewhat serious question that I don't think really merits it's own thread...

What would you (Heck, or any 'catter) recommend for a personal lighting setup? I'm talking a group of around 5-7, mostly static on stage, and hopefully portable within a minivan. Requirements would probably have to include stands to set up on...

I'm not actually looking to buy, I'm just curious for future reference, and here looked like as good a place as any...

I think he's a real "Smartie".

What do you think.

Could be- but I'm not familiar with 'smarties'. I do like eminems, though- should go get some. But I've heard that some are not good or at least not respectable and I want to be able to take mine home and I can't if I don't choose the right one(s). And the right one for me is folky. Now don't go opening that keg of fish...

Why are Boysenberries not Boysen colored? Strawberries straw colored? Oranges called oranges, but lemons not called yellows?

And I don't know if I've yet figured out the cow connection. Maybe it has to do with the whelks.

Heck, if I can't make it serious (yet not on the original topic), I might as well be silly.

Bartender, mine'll be anything alcoholic.

Fantastic research from Burke and Homeless!

Sinsull asked about the cannibalism. I hadn't seen that commercial yet, but it does seem quite disturbing. How do they go about it? Is it one big cartoon-style gulp or are individual bites involved? Do they chew?

I'm less concerned over Spaw's sexual issue. My view is they are cartoon representations and the artists have taken some liberties. I mean, Donald Duck never wears pants; I can't recall if the M&M guys/gals/its do, but Don's a guy for crying out loud. Does Daisey wear pants or does she have a little skirt thing going? And Micky only has pants.

Good God, I knew it couldn't go too long without insulting Oasis! You know I love Oasis and own almost every single thing they've ever put out, and sing all of it, but to put Eminem on a higher level than them? That's just sick.

Now, here in the South, one of the favorite candies is a GooGoo bar. I don't think there's any relation to the GooGoo Dolls, whom I happen to like.

Seems to me that most candies used to come in larger packages/portions. I had a GooGoo the other day and it just seemed So Much Smaller than they used to be. Same with donuts.

I took an IQ test and my score was something like 117 which isn't genius but is supposed to be above average. If I eat more Smarties can I get into Mensa?

Hmmmm Kim...I never seen any GooGoo bars here in NC...

But you know what's cool? Eating Nerds, you know...those hard-as-hell candies that are shaped like fruit? If you eat one, and then take a swig of Mountain Dew, you get this AWESOME taste in your mouth. Kind of a synergism of flavors. Try it!

You know if we take the shell-coating thing in the direction that Homeless is suggesting, within a very few generations we will come to the point where eminems are 100% coating and 0% chocolate. Which will sort of defeat the purpose of their being the chocolate that melts in your mouth and not in your hand. And they'll probably break your teeth, as well.

I think that, instead of going for overall hardness, the breeding program should go for a specificed amount of hardness, and any more or less hardness would be bred out. This should be based on a scientifically derived determination of the optimum coating-to-chocolate ratio. Just enough coating to keep it from melting, or from breaking just when you pick it up, yet not so much coating that the chocolate flavor (such as it is, of course) is overwhelmed. Eventually, as the result of our new and improved breeding programme, the entire herd would be of roughly the same hardness.

Alex, good thought, but how would you determine how hard is hard enough? I would assume this would be subjective, but would like the opinions of others.

Random surveys of a statistically significant population could yeild a mean, but would it truely be meaningful?

How hard must it be to be optimal?

Alex - if you are going to go into the breeding of eminems, please use the correct terms. One does not have a herd of eminems - the correct collective is either "bag" or "rapper"

I think we'd probably call it a "wrapper", but can see why you Yanks wouldn't want the dubya. But what would one of our English Rapper Sword Dance teams have to do with it, Mario?

I'm just a junior lighting/sound designer, I'm afraid...still learning. Also, most of the stuff I've worked with is theatre, not mobile setups. So I can't help a -whole- lot with your question. What I -can- say is to go with something very versatile and get a flexible lighting tech. If you're going to be taking stuff on the road, you're not going to be able to create the same look everywhere; you've got to have crew and equipment that can adapt to a lot of different places. Lighting trees are good to have--they'll allow you to hang in places where you can't hang overhead. As for what instruments to use, a lot depends on what you can afford. I'm personally fond of Source 4 pars and leekos. ETC's Intellibeams are really nifty, but mondo expensive and probably more technology than you need. *grins* Actually, they're more technology than anybody but, say, Mick Jagger needs. But they're neat.

I just realized that nobody's mentioned Hershey-ets, those eminem wannabes that have FIVE letters instead of just one. As a graduate of the Hershey Medical Center, Penn State's medical school located in Chocolate Town, USA, I'm disappointed. (For my birthday when I was a first year student, one of my friends drove all the way to Harrisburg to get me a Nestle's Crunch bar. For some reason you couldn't find them in Hershey...)

Alex... we live along the border because, firstly, it's warmer, what with all the hot air that blows our way from the south, and, second, because we are covertly massing up for the invasion, which usually takes place beginning in late fall of every year.... when the hot air turns to winter air and the grass is definitely greener on the other side of the fence.

Oh, and that cross border shopping doesn't hurt, either.

Someone clicky a number two, eh ? This Canuck is too lazy to look it up after thirteen straight hours of report writing.

Besides, if the major towns of Canada weren't clustered close to the border, USers (pun intended) wouldn't be able to slip across for their own shopping. Here in Juneau many Alaskans regularly head for Whitehorse and Atlin for our own nefarious purposes- music, cabins, X-country skiing...

Mollywoggie, mollificent harks of munificent, magnificent, beneficent and all that good stuff. Can't hurt.

How can you say that rappers or people the read poetry out with a peice of rhythm music behind them singers, they don't sing they talk and it's boring, because one poem(song) sounds like every other poem(Song).

I remeber years ago my nephew put on a rapper's record and I sat and listened to it, and I thought after a while that's a long poem, so I got up walked over to the record player and found out that the neddle had nearly finished the first side.

Rap 'music' is shit but those to their own.
