Subject: Lyr Add: I'M SATISFIED (Mississippi John Hurt) From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 07 Jul 01 - 01:13 AM Steve,
I'M SATISFIED
I'm satisfied, tickled too, old enough to marry you
First in the country, then in the town, I'm a total shaker from my navel on down
I pull my dress to my knees. (1) I give my too-ga-loo to who I please
I'm satisfied, tickled too, old enough to marry you |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Satisfied (Mississippi John Hurt) From: PoppaGator Date: 17 Mar 08 - 12:59 PM I'm pretty sure MJH does this in C, not D. The tab posted yesterday looks about right to me, but I'm at work without my guitar and so can't check it out completely. I'm not so sure it's necessary to change from 4/4 to 2/4 time and back again. This is one of my favorites. I've been playing it so long that I don't remember whether I learned it from tab (Stephan Grossman or some Oak Publications book), or from a person, or if I figured it out on my own after having absorbed enough different MJH key-of-C songs to recognize all the licks and bass runs, etc. If I learn later on that the tab cited above differs too much from how I know the song, maybe I'll post a corrected version. Someday when I'm not busy and distracted. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Satisfied (Mississippi John Hurt) From: NormanD Date: 17 Mar 08 - 07:06 PM In the vid, he's playing the C shape with a capo on fret two, which would make it D, so I guess you're both right. There's a fab version - solo acoustic fingerstyle - by John Hiatt, on "Avalon Blues", the MJH tribute album Peter Case put together a few years back. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Satisfied (Mississippi John Hurt) From: PoppaGator Date: 18 Mar 08 - 05:04 PM I didn't watch the YouTube vid before posting yesterday, since I have not audio and work. I just took a peek and the playe is indeed using the standard C "shapes," capoed up to D as you say. I've taken a few peeks, still without sound, and found another fellow's performacne of the song, also with capo on 2d fret bringing C up to D. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Satisfied (Mississippi John Hurt) From: NormanD Date: 19 Mar 08 - 06:25 AM Phew, thanks for that confirmation, PoppaG - I thought I might have been on dodgy ground there. Maybe I'm getting more confidence as a guitar player. All I've got to do now is stop yacking and start trying to play the song..... |
