Subject: RE: Koledy in English? (Polish Xmas carols?) From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 10 Apr 11 - 06:32 AM i've got 3 or 4 CD's of Czech/Moravian Koledy, and I would be interested to find out how many of the carols are closely related to or are regional variations of those in Poland. |

Subject: RE: Koledy in English? (Polish Xmas carols?) From: Haruo Date: 07 Nov 01 - 07:34 PM Masato: Thanks! maire-aine: Thanks and welcome to Mudcat! If you email me the word document you're compiling as an attachment, I'll try to get at least some of them into HTML format and posted on my website or in my online hymnal. Also I should mention that I have the tunes to the ones listed in my post above (they are all in the Esperanto hymnal Adoru), but if you are sending any that are not on my list, it would be helpful if you could also send the tunes. If you have MIDI files or NoteWorthy Composer, those would be good for my purposes, or if the Polish hymnal has the music you could snailmail me a photocopy or scan it as a GIF or JPEG and email it to me. You are right that Mudcat is somewhat diacritically challenged. It seems that even if you post something coded so that it looks right, the superscripts and special letters tend to disappear if the text is "harvested" for the Digitrad. So it's probably better to post such things off-Mudcat and just provide links here for people to get to them. Liland |
Subject: RE: Koledy in English? (Polish Xmas carols?) From: maire-aine Date: 07 Nov 01 - 08:13 AM Hi. After I saw your request, I went rumaging thru my attic and come up with several more. I have English translations for the following: W Zlobie Lezy, Sliczna Panienka, Bog Sie Rodzi, Narodzie Sie Jezus, Lulajze Jezuslu, Dzisiaj W Betlejem, Przybiezeli do Betlejem, and (my favorite) Triumfy Krola Neibieskiego, plus a few others that I don't remember singing at all. I also have a Polish hymnal with words to all of the above, plus many more. I am putting these into a word document, because my 'mimeographed' (the old purple printing)copy is getting very faded. It will probably be next week sometime before I have them all entered, but I'd be glad to share them with you. I'm new to the group, so I'm not very good with the html stuff, and besides-- with all the special marks used in Polish, I'm afraid they won't post correctly. If any of the technical folks can offer a suggestion, I'm listening. |

Subject: RE: Kolędy in English? (Polish Xmas carols?) From: Haruo Date: 03 Nov 01 - 08:27 PM By golly, I must not be awake today. Here are the correct links: The second version of W złobie leży should be this one, and the last item in the list should be Jam alvenu. If that doesn't work I'll stop writing in Polish altogether! ;-) Liland |
Subject: RE: Kolędy in English? (Polish Xmas carols?) From: Haruo Date: 03 Nov 01 - 08:25 PM Two of those links are wrong. Oops. The second version of W złobie leży should be this one, and the last item in the list should be Jam alvenu. Liland |
Subject: RE: Koledy in English? (Polish Xmas carols?) From: Haruo Date: 03 Nov 01 - 08:20 PM Many thanks, Lepus Rex and Masato santati-pantaczy (that's sort of an interlinguistic pun involving Japanese, Polish and Cockney; sorry!) Here's a more detailed list of what I'm looking for; "In the still of night" is one (though I find the lyric less than thrilling), and "Quickly on to Bethlehem" appears to correspond to the second stanza of another, but for the most part I'm still drawing blanks. I've given links to my hymnal in case the background MIDIs help anybody: Already in my hymnal; English versions foundWśród nocnej ciszy
Already in my hymnal; English versions soughtNebiosa, rosę (also need Polish text) Wesołą nowinę, bracia słuchajcie (also need Polish text)
Not yet posted; English versions sought
Anioł pasterzom mówił (also need Polish text)
Originals unknown; from Polish Catholic Esperantist songbooks - source info sought

Subject: RE: Koledy in English? (Polish Xmas carols?) From: Lepus Rex Date: 02 Nov 01 - 09:33 PM Hi, Liland... Dunno if this is what you're looking for, but I found a couple of koledy (translated) here and here... Here's all they had. (Pretty lame, but better than nothing. :) Przybiezeli do Betlejem /Quickly On To Bethlehem Oddawali swe uklony w pokorze, Tobie z serca ochotnego, o Boze! Chwala na wysokosci, Chwala na wysokosci, A pokoj na ziemi. Giving their respects in all humility, To the Infant Jesus from hearts lovingly, Glory to God on Highest Glory to God on Highest And on earth, peace to men. =================================== Jezus Malusienki/Jesus, Tiny Baby Jezus malusienki, Lezy wsrod stajenki, I drzy z zimna, wzdycha nad Nim To serce Matenki. A uboga byla Rabek z glowy zdjela, W ktore Dziecie Owinawszy, Siankiem Je okryla. Nie ma kolebeczki ani poduszeczki We zlobie mu polozyla Sianka pod gloweczki. Jesus Blessed wonder, Lay in lowly manger, With cold trembling, while beside Him Mother's heart was aching.

Subject: Koledy in English? (Polish Xmas carols?) From: Haruo Date: 02 Nov 01 - 08:50 PM I'm in the process of posting a number of Polish carols to my online hymnal, in Esperanto of course, and I've been able to locate the Polish texts for the most part, but aside from the widespread "W Zlobie Lezy" ("Infant Holy, Infant Lowly") I'm drawing a blank in looking for English versions. Anybody know a good online source for such? Or failing that, a book or something? Liland |
