Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: GUEST Date: 26 Aug 04 - 01:06 PM Was given one recently, didn't like it, passed it to another picker...they're kinda an aquired taste, but the girl I gave it to swears by it and has ordered some more of 'em. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: GUEST,Norton1 Date: 25 Aug 04 - 02:04 PM I was given one - and they are not my cup of tea. Used it once and set it aside. No flex is not good in my playing. But Thank You for sending me one to try - God Bless Steve |

Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 03 Feb 04 - 07:35 PM PM me yer addy Nort... I'll send ya one, and you can try it... if ya like it, I'll GIVE ya the rest of 'em too, unless anyone else speaks up... I'm honestly trying to spread 'em around... Just cause -I- didn't like 'em doesn't mean they're not good pics... So I'm trying to find people who WILL like 'em to generate a little support for 'em... |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: C-flat Date: 03 Feb 04 - 07:31 PM Give me a day or two to seek them out and I'll PM you for your address. I know I gave one of them to a friend to try out but that still leaves a couple floating around. C-flat. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Steve in Idaho Date: 03 Feb 04 - 12:22 PM So CH - want to send them to me? I'd like to try one just to satisfy the curious side - Blue Grass does not use a lot of flex in lead runs so they might work for some things. Let me know if either of you want to send them off and I'll pay you for them - postage too as I'm not looking for a freeby - Send the particulars in a Private Message and I'll give you my address - Thanks Steve |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: moocowpoo Date: 03 Feb 04 - 11:03 AM thanks C.H & C.F for the flex report, I was willing to order some but not after your "NO FLEX!!" warning (will robinson) muhkuhpuuuh |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 02 Feb 04 - 02:38 PM Yes... they flex not a ALL... |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: C-flat Date: 02 Feb 04 - 01:49 PM Flexibility is NOT a feature of these picks. I would see their main use in gypsy-jazz playing as a replacement for those extremely thick, heavy and pricey jazz-picks. They do work well on nylon strings and offer a very good grip too. C-flat. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: moocowpoo Date: 02 Feb 04 - 11:09 AM I'm pretty curious, however I do like a little bit of flex in a pick How much does this funky-looking wirething move, compared to a 1mm nylon flatpick??. I have in the past used an old credit card for a pick also they go ok. I wonder how much of a withdrawal you could make if you inserted a plectrum into an ATM? would there be a johnny cash song printed on the recipt?, the lyrics to 'pickin' time'? mabye.......but perhaps not. I've also cut up plastic milkbottles, too thin ( I did consider laminating them), too much effort folded up sheets of paper, too short-lived used paper-clips, too awkward used fingers, too painful used nothing, too quiet dragon bum-scales, too fictitious mooowpoocakes, too close to home then!, I heard about plectrums! they're quite good and just the right shape...... I'm wondering if wirethings have arrived in Australia?, we do have wire things but mainly coat hangers and paper clips, not 'wirethings' (*wink, wink). Anyway, I wouldn't mind hearing a report on their flexibility thanks. muhkuhpuh |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 01 Feb 04 - 01:52 PM "I did use them for a while and they were ok" Really? Cause I find that they "rake" across the wound strings on my guitar in a VERY unpleasant way... Maybe that says more about my playing than anything else? I donno.... Well, C-flat... send me yours and I'll see if I can find 'em ALL a good home! LOL |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: C-flat Date: 01 Feb 04 - 11:46 AM Like you, Clinton, mine have gravitated to the bottom of my gig-bag and were forgotten about untill just now. I did use them for a while and they were ok but I'm using my fingers/nails more and more lately and have little use for them. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: GUEST,Van Date: 01 Feb 04 - 07:17 AM At first I thought "Whatever next an orthopaedic pick" then open mike comes up with a use for the credit cards I have to cut up after Christmas. Mudcat has everything. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: open mike Date: 01 Feb 04 - 02:04 AM credit cards cut into triangles make home made picks.. the raised numbers and letters give it somw extra grip. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Banjo,London Date: 31 Jan 04 - 09:39 PM I make some of my own picks out of offcuts from 0.5 mm black scratchplate celluloid. (It seems to be the same stuff Gibson use for their picks.) They can be any size or shape. All you need is a sharp pair of scissors and a nail file. People who supply instrument makers sell it. Anyone else know of any raw materials (plastics)? Banjo,London |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Sam L Date: 31 Jan 04 - 07:23 PM The wire version of a fingerpick would be kind of a mizrab sitar pick. I made some of those wire things myself from the patent, but it just wasn't the sound I wanted. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 31 Jan 04 - 05:50 PM These are flat-picks mate... See the link in the first post to this thread... :-) Tangentally, I've also tried the "Speed Pick" and it just didn't move me much.. maybe I have to give it a little more 'get used to it" time... |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: breezy Date: 31 Jan 04 - 05:29 PM I converted to Fred Kelly thumb speed picks 18 months ago but will still look at anything that comes along. I use metal finger picks and my top 3 strings are plain! I play 2 tones up on one guitar send em me Clinton if you dont want em.but are you stateside? |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 31 Jan 04 - 05:18 PM So well, I'm ghosting through the back of a closet, and I find a box of old broken guitar chords and such like and in the bottom of the box is a small zip-loc bag with 5 Wirething Picks in it... Anybody else ever try 'em?? Anybody ever try 'em and LIKE 'em? Anybody want mine? |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 17 Jun 02 - 10:56 PM refresh? Anyone? ;-)

Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: catspaw49 Date: 17 Jun 02 - 06:26 PM Hey Joe....I remembered the thread title to be something like CH said and entered "these" in the thread search with a refresh of 90 days. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 17 Jun 02 - 06:11 PM Ya... I've been playing with these things now for a couple of hours, and I'm pretty damn certain I HATE 'em... Maybe I'm just not a metal pick guy...
|
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 17 Jun 02 - 05:56 PM Pfffft... hard time??? where? I get worse than that from people who know and LOVE me! LOL!!!! Just out of curiosity, how often does "Search Indexing" happen?
|
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Jun 02 - 05:52 PM Ah, now I understand, Clinton. "Picks" is a very common word on music sites, and it brought up results that took up too much bandwidth. That set off a limiter that gave you the error message. These picks would have given you some interesting results (try it), but wouldn't have picked up the recent wirething thread because the thread was posted after the last seacrh indexing was performed. Hope you don't mind us giving you a hard time, but the temptation to harass you was just too great... -Joe Offer- |
Subject: Wirething.com picks From: Clinton Hammond Date: 17 Jun 02 - 05:03 PM Well, my 6 finally arrived today... Ummm... I think I hate 'em... They make a horrid RAKING sound when strumming them over wound guitar strings heavier than .25 (my preferred G)... So, ummm... I'm gonna try 'em for another couple of days and see if the 'grow' on me but I doubt it... So... well... there seem to be people here who liked 'em... wanna buy these six off me... it's either that or, I guess I'll contact wirething.com and see what their return policy is... I'll give 'em this... on the smaller guage strings, and especially on the steel strings, they sound nice and bright... sorta that "New String" sound, off strings that haven't been changed for at least a couple of weeks... |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: 53 Date: 18 May 02 - 06:26 PM Never seen one but I imagine that they would work good. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: YOR Date: 18 May 02 - 03:45 PM I just ordered a 3 pak. $8.+ for 3 picks, what the hell, I want to know. I wonder how friendly they will be on my Elixer strings. By the picture they look alittle too stiff for my taste. I use the extra thin or medium picks. So why didn't I talk myself out of it. Go figure! Enjoy, Roy |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Clinton Hammond Date: 18 May 02 - 02:58 PM I sent my order for 6 of these out yesterday... we'll see how long they take to get here... Keen to give 'em a try! ;-)

Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: C-flat Date: 18 May 02 - 02:55 PM Well, I received a pack of three "wirethings" this morning which is a pretty good turn-around from the U.S. to the U.K. for $1 postage. I can tell you that they're really good! Nice and light, good grip and after a few minutes playing I can get plenty of expression out of a note and loads of attack on a nice bluesy bend. Pinched harmonics are a treat with these too. Obviously I haven't gigged with them yet but I can't see a problem. I expected them to be a bit clumsy or harsh but I must say I'm very pleasantly suprised! |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: C-flat Date: 11 May 02 - 02:37 PM Well for the sake of a couple of quid, I'll give them an order and certainly let everyone know how I get on ! I gig with a nylon stringer and a Telecaster and cover a few different styles so it'll be interesting to see how many strings I break! |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Biskit Date: 11 May 02 - 02:26 PM I beg to differ LEJ,.. I've been usin' brass picks for years with great results. I'm surely gonna look into this. ~Biskit~ |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 May 02 - 02:07 PM You can make a similar sort of thing with a pick using a bit of nylon guitar string, and that doesn't hurt the strings. OK for strumming, but a bit clumsy for picking.
I'd like to try one of these wirethings, but I'd be doubtful. One of the thingsith a normal pick is you can bend it as you're playing when you want to make it a wee bit more rigid, and I can't see how you could do that with this needle-threader variety. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: C-flat Date: 11 May 02 - 01:54 PM The manufacturers are claiming that the special smooth finish reduces wear on steel or nylon strings but I think they mean by comparison with other steel picks. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Lonesome EJ Date: 11 May 02 - 01:42 PM Metal-on-metal is usually a bad thing, isn't it? |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: C-flat Date: 11 May 02 - 01:40 PM It looks like a needle threader. I might have a rummage around and see if I can find one before I order the picks! |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: Les B Date: 11 May 02 - 01:36 PM Seems like if you slipped a regular plastic pick in the end of a paper clip you would have the poor person's version. |
Subject: RE: Anyone tried these picks? From: MudWeasel Date: 11 May 02 - 12:54 PM Never seen one before but i'll admit that my curiosity is whetted. Anyone who's used one, please, post a review! -MW |
Subject: Anyone tried these picks? From: C-flat Date: 11 May 02 - 12:50 PM Just seen these advertised for the first time in the U.K. Has anyone tried them out? |
