Subject: Correction: UNTIL IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO GO From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Aug 02 - 01:10 AM Hmmm. I have to teach Sorcha about right-clicking. This is from the page Sorcha linked to, Buffy Sainte-Marie's home page, http://www.creative-native.com -Joe Offer- first recorded by Buffy Sainte-Marie in 1965 |

Subject: DT Correction: Until It's Time For You to Go From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Aug 02 - 03:34 AM You got me on that one, Desert Dancer. I searched for "until it's time," and I was surprised that it didn't come up. Anyhow, looks like it would be good to tag this one for DTStudy indexing. The version I got from Buffy Ste. Marie's site shouuld be correct, and we have a few places where there are "words that tear and strain to rhyme." Here's the DT version. Note that the tune is missing in the DT. The DT lyrics have a few discrepancies from what I hear on an early recording from Buffy Ste. Marie, so I'll post a corrected version below. Corrections are in bold -Joe Offer-
The recording repeats the chorus and the first verse somewhat differently:
Don’t ask forever of me: Love me; love me now. You’re not a dream, you’re not an angel, you’re a man I’m not a queen, I’m a woman, take my hand We’ll make a space in the lives that we planned And here we’ll stay until it’s time for you to go.

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Till its' time for you to go From: Little Hawk Date: 09 Aug 02 - 10:47 AM This song was generally done in a rather melodramatic and overwrought way when it was covered by various other singers, but Buffy does it simply and beautifully and makes it sound real (which it was, for her). She also did a torch singer version of it in French that was pretty neat, with an entirely different approach...in French it sounds good that way. It's a song that sounds a bit awkward when sung by a male...the lyrics aren't really set up right for that, and there's no very good way of fixing it IMO. It's got a pretty interesting chord structure. - LH |
Subject: Buffy Sainte-Marie lyrics & chords From: GUEST,Vivian Date: 29 Jul 03 - 04:33 PM Am looking for lyrics and music to "Welcome, Welcome, Emigrante" and "Seeds of Brotherhood." She was so-oo-o ahead of her time. Thank you to Little Hawk for your posts. I didn't know that Buffy got blacklisted and spyed upon by the FBI in the 60's etc. That doesn't surprise me though--what else is new! I have all her old albums. However, I will never figure out the chords myself. Hope some of you more talented people will get ahold of her music, and bring it back!!! to the world because we need it, that's what folk music is all about. Vivian |

When I sing it I just alter the first two lines I'm not a dream, I'm not an angel, I'm a man You're not a queen, you're a woman, take my hand This seems to work quite well. And I agree about the chords; they are really interesting. Jim |
