I THINK IT IS OFFICIALLY ON, SUBJECT TO, AS THEY SAY IN REAL ESTATE, CERTAIN CONDITIONS. ONE IS THAT WE RAISE $200 FROM PEOPLE PAYING RIGHT NOW. IT WILL BE AROUND $50, AND $50 FOR SURE IF YOU PAY RIGHT NOW.

It might be a little bit more if you delay..like maybe $60. I would like to be able to offer at least 2 scholarships for people willing to stay and clean up etc.

I think I might have around $150 already, counting my own $50.

People who come should expect this to be almost a planning session for next year. But I think it is important to just go ahead and do it, so next year we can say it is already up and running. It also will probasbly be the first weekend of October next year, rather than the 18th, which it will be this year.

It will be in Nahcotta, Washington, on Long Beach Peninsula. About 2 hours from Portland, 1.5 from Longview. We made it in 3 from south Seattle last week, on Labor Day itself. Weather should be standard October..quite possibly sunny and beautiful. Could be grey and misty. ALso at the beach could be stormy.

There is no heat in cabins. We might be able to bring in heaters for a surcharge, but maybe not. There is a fireplace in the lodge, which is just a simple lodge. It has a pretty good kitchen for this sort of thing though. Cabins are standard. There are men's and women's bathrooms, which I think might be a bit chilly.

Please do try and come. Menu will be pretty standard camp fare, with hopefully a salmon dinner on Saturday. I don't expect a lot of people, but so far some who are pretty sure to come are my favoritemost singers, so I think even if 5 people, or 10 or 15 come (and I am hoping for maybe 20-30, but we might not make it this year)..we should have fun. And the place is just beautiful..and I think on a sacred spot..on Willapa Bay. About 2 miles from the ocean itself. And if you don't like my camp cooking, the Ark restaurant is a short walk away. Also, if you don't like cabin life, there are plenty of other places to stay on the peninsula, including a rental house I am involved with and could probably get you for $60-100 a night..there are also cheaper places.

What can you lose? We also have bumper cars here and cotton candy. A weekend at the beach, with beautiful music and fresh salmon, for $50.

Come one come all.

I'll put a check in the mail tomorrow or Monday, Mary. Looks like I can be there from about 2:00-ish Saturday through ?? Sunday. I should be able to help with clean-up, if you need me.

Re heat: It's fine with me if the cabins are not heated, though it would be nice to have the option of plugging in a space heater near the shower if the weather is really cool. More important to me is being able to heat the lodge to a reasonable temperature (via a fire and/or heaters). Let us know if that is allowed.

Should we bring any finger food or other munchies? Beverages? A coffee maker?

Sounds like it's gonna be a good gathering. (But aren't you the optimist, calling it "Sunny Camp" in the last half of October in western Washington!)

Hooray. I am really looking foreward to this. I heard about the heaters, and it is a definite no for the cabins. I will check again on the lodge and bathrooms, which would have other wiring. I am hoping, not for myself, because I can go most of the year without heat, but I know others are more sensitive to it.

I'll be camping there next weekend too..training for a camp for abused girls. If any women are interested in coming for that too, and can commit to a weekend (October 12-13), let me know. They always need volunteers, but you will have to go through security check etc.

It is very often very sunny in October..I forget if you are a native or not...but October is by far I think the most beautiful month here. And the spot is so beautiful. I was there on the bus this evening and the colors were just amazing blues and greens. It was Chief Nahcotta's summer home. I can feel sacred spaces or whatever..and I have long felt this is one.

Anyone who is ready to send a check I think it would be safer to send it to me at work. M. Garvey, WSU Long Beach, 2907 Pioneer Road, Long Beach, WA 98631. It is easiest if you leave it blank who it goes to, because some will be cashed for food etc., but if that makes you uneasy, just make it to Camp Morehead. And if you are just coming Saturday afternoon on, you can come for $30..how's that. And people just coming for the day, $10 plus we'll figure out something for food. Oh, bring something for Friday night potluck, or stop in a nearby store for something. If you like particular coffee etc., bring it.

Wel'll talk food a bit later..will try to keep it simple though.

Cool. I am glad we are doing this. I will set my cookie if I can figure out how (I have torn my hair out many times trying to do this) so we can send pm's..my email is mgarvey@pacifier.com if anyone prefers to email me.

Now, Lane, let us hear from you..just 80 miles away, along the most beautiful scenery in the world, and you were just saying you wished there was something nearby......now there is. And Amergin, you are also very close. And how about you Ellensburg ladies?

And if anyone has time before 5 p.m. on Friday, stop in Ilwaco at the museum there..can't miss it. Hobe Kytr is the director, and I understand is a fine songwriter about events in this neck of the woods.

I am really looking forward to this. I really like music camps. If anyone has a chance to go to any, just go.

You can also get here via public transportation, but it has to be Monday through Friday unless you meet up with someone in Astoria.

From Seattle: somehow get to Olympia by 9 a.m. (double check all this..) Don't count on Greyhound although you might make it. Then go to Aberdeen, then go on to Astoria via Pacific Transit. Then on to Ilwaco and up to Nahcotta. The bus will pass right past the camp. Eventually. Going back is a breeze. About 9 a.m. you just get on a bus here, and make your way to Seattle via local buses. Takes many hours. Also, you can take Greyhound to Kelso, then on to Astoria about noon. Check schedule. Going back, from Astoria to Kelso about 3, then train or bus o Seattle about 5 p.m. I could a woman or two up in my teensie apartment Sunday night if needed.

mg, I agree that October is usually sunnier than June in the great Pacific NW -- but you can't count on sun the way you usually can from mid July (right after July 4th) through September.

$30 sounds fine for my curtailed sojourn

BTW, "mgarvey," the "M" wouldn't happen to stand for "Marcus," would it?

M is for Mary...I am counting on sunny weather...hoping for sunny weather...but will bring my fleeciest adornments.

Frank of Toledo, didn't you say in another thread that you are hoping to come? If at all possible, I am hoping that people can pay right away so we can secure the camp, and it also has sort of a snowball effect. I am one of the people who registers at the last minute, and it's OK once we are up and running, but it will be harder for sure. Anyone who can register and pay now, please do. Just email me at mgarvey@pacifier.com.

I really don't like sending these PMs here as it takes forever and I don't do it well, so email works best for me. Also, I keep trying to do searches for old threads on this and can't find them so I am saying screw it..I'll just keep refreshing this one....

Mary, I was kidding about that "Marcus" thing. (Marcus Garvey was a Jamaican who in the early part of the 20th C. led a "Back To Africa" movement for the descendents of slaves in the Americas.)

Hoping that you will sing your 9/11-inspired song at Sunnycamp.

now we even have a web site, which will probably never be improved because I don't know if I remember how to get to it. But it has some basic information.

Mary,
What sort of music will you be doing? Are there instructors & workshops and all that?

John

a. Yes, that is where it is. There is also a mother camp which is on the ocean a few miles away. Most of the other links refer to that.

b. No instructors, probably workshops, depending on how many people come this first year. It will definitely be potluck. Whoever comes gets to put on a workshop of their choice. Most of the people I expect this first year are graduates of many of these camps, and will automatically settle into their preferred themes etc.
