Did anyone see the episode of West Wing tonight? It is season 3 finale. Towards the end they played a song which I cannot bring enough of it back to quote.

However, I WANT THAT SONG. :)

Thanks,

TonyK

Yes, the presidential advisors tell Jed Bartlett that he can't use the military as assassins because of the Posse Comitatus Act. That's pretty ridiculous. The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits using the U.S. military for law enforcement, which is no what Bartlett was ordering. It's not the Posse Comitatus Act that was relevant -- it's the laws against murder! As far as I know, sending out a hit squad is illegal under the laws of the District of Columbia (where the order for the assassination originated), the United States (a federal offense because the assassins traveled internationally to carry out the hit), and Bermuda (where the assassination took place).

Yeah, but we're talking about TV here. ;-)

Sorry, Tony, I haven't watched it since the season finaly originally aired and I don't remember what music they played. It would be really nice if the show's website would tell you what music is on each episode.

I think the song you are refering to is Hallejaiah, which is also in Shrek, in ER (often...) very good - by one of the popular culture guys I wouldn't know but everyone else on the cat would... so if no one replies to this, put up a thread asking hallelujah or how ever the hell you spell it... Cheers Larry

Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" was used as background in the season finale of "West Wing" this year, but I am pretty sure it was not the music played in the "posse comitatus" episode. I think I have that episode on tape, and if I can find it, I'll do what I can to identify the song.

BTW, can't you go to NBC's website and/or the website for The West Wing and find a place to ask questions via email about the show?

Genie

Oops! I just went to the NBC/West Wing website and learned (from their FAQs) that the season finale this last spring was the "posse comitatus" episode. (I had thought the "posse comitatus" episode was the one in which Bartlett ordered the assassination of an official from another country.)

So the song is definitely Cohen's "Hallelujah," but it was sung on the show by Jeff Buckley.

Look for "Hallelujah" in the Forum and you'll find the lyrics and chords.
