Subject: 'Hallelujah' (Song on 'Scrubs' TV show) From: Genie Date: 26 Jun 02 - 01:01 AM Just saw a rerun of an episode of the TV show "Scrubs"--the one in which all three interns' patients die. The background song is a song which, I assume, is titled: "Hallelujah," since that's the hook word. I can't quite place the artist's voice [Jackson Browne, maybe? -- not sure], though it's familiar. If any of you folks saw the show and/or can think of a contemporary artist who has a song called "Hallelujah," please let me know. Thanks, Genie |

I don't even know if this is relevant but you really really should listen to it if you haven't already Mj |
Subject: RE: Help: 'Hallelujah' (Song on 'Scrubs' TV show) From: GUEST,Genie-No-Cookie Date: 26 Jun 02 - 10:30 AM Hmmmm, Mikey. I kept thinking, when I was trying to identify the song, that it sounded like a Leonard Cohen song I'd heard--but the voice on "Scrubs" wasn't Leonard Cohen. If John Cale was singing Leonard Cohen's song, that solves the mystery. Now to see if the Cohen lyrics are here in the DT or Forum. Genie |
Subject: RE: Help: 'Hallelujah' (Song on 'Scrubs' TV show) From: GUEST,Mikey joe no cookie either Date: 26 Jun 02 - 10:58 AM Genie. Sorry if I caused any confusion. I din't see the show in question. I'm only pointing out that the Leonard Cohen song "Hallalujah" (I heard there was a secret chord....that David played and it pleased the Lord....) has been covered sublimely by Jeff Buckley. I do not know if this is the same one or not. Slan go foill Mj |

A version of this was also featured in Crossing Jordan, in the episode where they found the dead man at the altar with what looked like stigmata on his hands. |

Now, I've (G)heard there was a (Em)secret chord Halle(C)lujah! Your faith was strong but you needed proof. Hallelujah! You say I took the name in vain. Hallelujah! I did my best; it wasn't much. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! |
Subject: RE: Help: 'Hallelujah' (Song on 'Scrubs' TV show) From: Sarah the flute Date: 27 Jun 02 - 04:01 AM It's still not the hallelujah song I was looking for a while back. Hallelujah was used in that more as an exclamation of delight that the bloke in the song had finally met up with the girl he'd been lusting after.... still trying to find out what it is. I heard it at a gig I did in cambridge where a group of dinner suited wedding guests sang it in the style of Kings singers and altho' I'm not a great fan of that sort of music generally I really liked the song. |
Subject: RE: Help: 'Hallelujah' (Song on 'Scrubs' TV show) From: Genie Date: 01 Jul 02 - 10:49 PM I was watching my tape of the season finale episode of The West Wing, and I realize why Cohen's "Hallelujah" resonated with me so much when I heard it used on "Scrubs." Not only have I heard Leonard Cohen himself do it, but it was used to very powerful effect at the conclusion of this West Wing episode, too. I'm not sure whose recording it was (not Cohen's), but it was very haunting and moving. What a powerful song! Genie |
