Been buying 2ndhand books for 40+years,2ndhand records ditto, will look nearly anywhere, like doing serendipity in libraries(reference section) a,d among my own volumes, collect quotes and quotation books, the former into my own self-indexing notebooks. My lady-friend cut out a quotation about Shakespeare's Autolycos, where he's described as a "snapper-up of unconsidered trifles". That's what she thought I was doing, the trifles bit being her considered opinion. I offer Offer trifles, so it looked (w)right.

It has nothing to do with which hand I use. It's my politics. I consider myself to be quite a bit to the left of today's political parties in the USA. I believe it's the true patriotic path. I believe in America, and I believe in the family of man. I think we have an obligation to each other and if we, in our zeal for each other, occasional pay a welfare fraud then so be it. I also think we have the obligation to protect each other from those that would do us harm, those that abuse us or take advantage. I think America is a teriffic idea that still offers promise after all these years. Greed and bigotry are the only things that stand in the way of that promise.

My real first name. Named after a Great Grandfather. I just happen to have lived in Maryland all my life, and if I had a nickel for all the times people asked me if I was "named after the river", I'd be a rich man today. My last name is Savage which, like Severn, is both a town and a river in Maryland. I have no middle name, fortunately. Questions about two rivers are quite enough, thanks. Three, actually with all my Yook Mudcat friends asking their own questions.

I used to be quiet, shy Maureen. When I started calling Barn dances for I neede a new personality so I left Maureen at home and took Mo to gigs. Seems there is another Mo on Mudcat.
Didn't realise that I was changing my sex as well, till Mudcatters started calling me "man"
Come to think, my Dad was "Mo" in the army (he was called "Alfred Morris Brown" after a preacher) and I was Mo once in my life before. The news that he had a daughter was bawled out be an NCO "Mo. Little Mo's arrived" I've never won Wimbledon though.

Well, I am trying to muddle my way thru understanding music as she is writ, and it all hinges above and below middle C, which seems to be some sort of standard for all you control freaks, but to us luddites it's directly proportional to the amount of 'old Rosie' cider available and inversely proportional to the noise of the juke box.....

I moved to Farlington, a tiny village in the wilds of North Yorkshire, UK. I used to joke that our local pub, The Blacksmith's Arms, (now immortalised in the Obit: Sam Smiths Bans Live Music thread) was a bit like The Slaughtered Lamb fictional pub featured in the opening scenes of An American Werewolf in London. You know, the scene where the two hitch hikers stumble in from the storm and the whole place goes quiet and the locals stare at them. They then start asking awkward questions about why there is a pentangle above the fireplace and are ultimately asked to leave. While stumbling across the moor at night there is an eerie howl and they are attacked by (at that point) an unidentified beast. It doesn't take a huge leap of imagination to get to 'The Beast of Farlington'. This was also a nickname I gave to my neighbours Spaniel until he had 'the op'!

I used to be Ely, which would have been my nickname had I been named "Elizabeth" as my mother's boss suggested (unfortunately, I already had an Aunt Liz and my mother's family is full of Betties so it had to be something different).

However, cookie issues brought that to an end so I had to pick something else. "Scoville" was chosen on a whim after an afternoon at the National Museum of Funeral History--Sayers & Scoville is a hearse company. I like antique cars and have always had a little bit of a morbid streak. (A friend of mine has a horse named Scoville for a similar reason--he's black and sometimes pulls a hearse at Civil War reenactments.) It also doesn't resemble any of my other online names.

I am a pilot for a company that delivers freight throughout the state of New Mexico. By the nature of our work we have to fly really early in the day and late in the day, with a lot of lounging around the airport when everyone else is "working". Somebody, somewhere, came up with the pejorative name of "Freightdog" to describe or demean us - us as in all the other hundreds of pilots who are sleep deprived denizens of the less popular haunts of the airport. As with so many other things, however, the demeaning aspect of the name became a badge of honor. Now, to be refered to as a Freight Dog has a certain mystical charm about it. (Although I've run into a couple of freighters that got downright physical when referred to as such!) Young freighters are called package puppies.

I, however, consider myself a true freightdawg - a mangy, scraggly ol'cur that mothers shrink from and little children throw rocks at. However, we all consider ourselves darn good pilots and if you received a package this week, or sent one out, or had to depend on a medical specimen being delivered to a distant laboratory, or needed a legal document shipped overnight, chances are you had to depend on one of us to make it happen.

And besides, when I'm a mile or so above the earth, I've got the best office in the whole building.

My name was given to me by my dear children over on the Mother of All BS Threads. I believe I am the only Mudcat thread to have actually become a sentient entity and, thus, to qualify for membership. I believe the transformation from just a thread to living-breathing-walking-talking-rockin'-an'-rollin' member came about somewhere around the three or four-thousand post mark. I really don't remember. I don't post too often, generally only when some of my children get out of hand and need to either be slapped around a little or have their meds adjusted.

My real name is Dewaine. Everyone Pajoratively calls my Dewey. the ewwweee!!! part of Dewey being stressed in the pronunciation (as well as the volume)

My co-workers of the past and present often seem to chant to me the following way: Dew wee! Dew wee! Dew wee! Like you might at a United Auto Workers of AFL-CIO Meeting, with everyone's fists in the air in a momentus state of solidairity. I never can tell if the chanting is affectionate or as mentioned above pajorative.

Usually the words "screwy" is instictually placed in front of my name, by whoever decides to call me by this name.

I am actually not that fond of the name itself, but I choose it online at sites I visit for the following reasons:

It allows me to stay humbled in conversations, If I say something stupid or overtalk, it allows me the option to blame it on my name, Someone might say on a message board for example, "Oh well, that's Screwy Dewey for you. Once again he's opened his mouth again before actually using his brain."

Also I'm proud of being Screwy Dewey, being a little "out there" and of the wall at times keeps my mind and heart open to new ideas, while at the same time. gives me the opportunity by others to be forgiven for having said something dumb.

My biggest weakness is sensitivity to the opinions of other people and self-consciousness in general, also one of my other weaknesses is a preference to being alone, I seem to be able to entertain myself quite thoroughly. I like to think, and I think best when I am by myself. I also hate crowds and loud places, but I don't necessarily hate people. I am just very picky about the types of people I like to be around.

I don't like bars, vulgarity and public filth in general. My prejudices are that I like quiet, sensible, moral people as well as stimulating non-reactionary conversations. I don't like gossip, loose talk, or television pop culture. My T.V. is unplugged and I rarely use it. I watch Foxnews at work or at Mom and Dad's (the right wing propaganda network)

My biggest strength is that I am a positive thinker: I haven't had one stressful day in 3 years, and I'm not just making that one up! It is a complete and total fact. I have a life free of worry, my brain has been been so stimulated through years of sedentary desires and positive emotions and through the principle of auto-suggestion, negativity just doesn't enter it anymore ever!

I don't own a cell phone, and I refuse to join the ratrace! I want to do things my way. I don't kill myself for any employer anymore, I've got my bills low enough that I know can do whatever I wish to, whether job retraining, starting a new business etc.

Sure I am a little behind on things, yet I now know I have an inner gift to succeed through a creative force that is much beyond me and yet is part of me (i.e. God)

Intention to me is more important than my timeline towards futuristic events, I feel eventually, any human being, through the infinite intellignece of the interactive God of his consciouness, will develope his-her purpose from within, daily, interactively and exponentially.

I also believe that who I BECOME EVERY SINGLE DAY, And who my higher consciousness becomes every single day, is much more important than the tanglible instant gratification of the money that is not yet in my hands, we all arrive through intention in our own individual ways and through own own creative timeline when we are connected to our source (i.e. God)





Dewey (the nut)

In the late 1960s I was a member of a organization that focused on African culture. Like other members of that group, I wanted an African personal name. My man friend at that time, Zayd, said he would give me an African name. And because I just love loved loved him, I said I would accept the name that he selected. So out of the kindness of his soon to be cheatin heart, Zayd gave me a choice of two names-either "Aziza": Arabic for "{one who}is rare & precious" or "Azizi": Kiswahili with the same meaning.

Back in those days {and now} a lot of female names given to African Americans from the Arabic language and other language sources {as well as names which are creatively 'made up'} end with the 'ah" sound like "Keisha", "Maisha", "Malika","Fatimah", "Kadisha", "Alia"... I liked the idea of "Azizi" because it sounded more unique.

But in those days {and still today} there was also a brand of makeup called "Aziza". The REAL reason why I choose 'Azizi' instead of 'Aziza' is that I didn't want to give somebody the opportunity to look at me and say "Aziza, you forgot your make-up, girl.."

So I've been 'Azizi' now for 37 years-and I try to live up to that name with or without wearing makeup.
