Meals are about average pub price and plenty of it - I mentioned breakfasts and that should be a possibility too. No problems with well behaved dogs or goldfish (they seemed surprised we asked about that one!) Plenty of trees about to give shade Nutty. Only one request from landlady is that we don't have barbeques on the field as she is worried about fires. Not sure why but that is her request and I can't see any problems complying. Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 20 Feb 03 - 12:13 PM Had a great night in the Black Dog last night. Gave the landlord and landlady (Gary and Tracy) a small taste of what they could expect only we warned them there would be a lot more of us and we would be invading every part of the premises!!! Various queries were answered regarding facilities too 1. Drainage is superb so no worries about waterlogging at all 2. There is a disposal point for chemical toilets which also has a very basic outside toilet (no roof so we will bring golfing umbrella and promise no dinosaurs!!) 3. It is a Tetleys pub so one pump has to have that the other three plus two mobiles can have what we like from guest list so Geoff and I will discuss that with them in good time for the weekend (Abbotts and IPA on last night)Cider is Strongbow (no scrumpy) 4. Good chance that Tracy will serve cooked breakfasts if people are interested - haven't fixed any prices yet but will sort nearer the time and get a rough idea of numbers wanting it. 5. Unlike last two years there will not be a meal organised for the Saturday evening but the pub does great food at reasonable prices so don't envisage a problem. 12 weeks to go. |

If I come (I enjoyed the last two immensely) it will probably be as a foot passenger on the Zeebrugge Hull ferry...arriving Friday am and leaving Sunday 19h00. Can anyone advise on travel connections to Selby and is there a convenient B&B nearby? This will help me decide on attending. Many thanks in advance. moo |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: Noreen Date: 26 Feb 03 - 06:04 AM I'm sure a space could be found for you in a tent, moo dear... :0) Seriously, I can bring a spare tent and all the accoutrements for you if you wish to stay on site. Do we get as good a view of the cooling towers from this new location as from the Jug, Jane? Cooling towers at night can be so atmospheric... Hi JJ- you owe me an e-mail! |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: alanww Date: 26 Feb 03 - 07:35 AM mooman - Richard I'm sure Noreen is right. If someone local can help with the transport from the ferry to Selby, I shall be bringing a campervan so I could very easily also pack a tent, along with a bed and sleeping bag! I could even pack some extra bacon for butties at breakfast! You would be very welcome! We can discuss it further at Portaferry at the weekend. "For I be free to go abroad ...!" Alan |

Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: George Papavgeris Date: 25 Mar 03 - 03:50 AM Naah, Allan C/Mrs Duck, not Essex or Virginia, I am talking REAL South, as in "Southern Europe", the land of the Mediterranean pine, earthquakes, gold medallions on sun-bronzed chests, retsina (what a giveaway) and old ladies in black. The land of real men (you HAVE to be a real man, if you're wearing a pleated skirt and bobbles on your shoes). OK, so I'm a reject from that land, as I look nothing like any of the above; but I prefer to think of myself as a cultural ambassador... As for Yorkshire pud - isn't that the frozen stuff you get at Tescos? Nice fingerbowls, but they get soggy after a while. But I shouldn't tease - I am ready and very willing to be taught the comparative benefits of northern fare, adding to my heretofore patchy knowledge. Joking aside - really looking forward to it! |

Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: Noreen Date: 03 Apr 03 - 05:42 PM Kit, just come along and say hello! It'll be very informal: camping space, food and drink available, and lots of friendly musicians and listeners of all varieties. If weather is fine, outdoor space may be utilised for sessions/ chatting etc... There'll definitely be informal tune sessions and singarounds, possibly separate or overlapping, as the fancy takes people. A fair bit of tune and song-swapping usually happens too. The Yorkshire Gathering will be a Good Thing, and you'll not be sorry you decided to meet these strange people... If you become a member here (it's free) you can send me a personal message if there's other things you'd like to know. Mrs Duck may well be along with a timetable of events, but possibly not until the end of term :0) |

Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 06 Apr 03 - 08:12 AM Yes but will that leave you enough energy to get to the gathering Mr Happy ;¬))) Hope you get down for some or all of the weekend, Kit. As Noreen says it is very informal and any timetables will be very loose and basically we will all just be having a great time singing and playing music with the odd pint or two thrown down for good measure (personally I think the gallon is an excellent measure!) |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: selby Date: 06 Apr 03 - 08:15 AM Im not having Odd pints I want proper ones :-0 Keith |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: Allan C. Date: 06 Apr 03 - 08:19 AM Clearly there will be some among those gathered there who can give me proper guidance as to what liquids to consume. I will place my fate in the hands of the experts on the subject. I do prefer drinking things that are brown for some reason (I know not what or why.) Stranger in a strange land...and all that sort of thing. |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: Morticia Date: 06 Apr 03 - 08:48 AM A word to the wise Allen....never listen to Micca's advice on what to drink. It has led to grief, hangovers and the occasional spell in gaol. |
Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 06 Apr 03 - 08:52 AM And they don't come much stranger than this lot Allen !!!!! |

Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: Tig Date: 07 Apr 03 - 04:55 PM There will be a new game available at the Yorkshire Gathering ( all being well!) called Prevent Badger Doing Too Much. Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: nutty Date: 08 Apr 03 - 04:10 AM I was going to suggest that Allan BUT I thought that the idea of being tied up might just over-excite him. |

Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: George Papavgeris Date: 14 Apr 03 - 01:43 PM I'll be bringing kazoos. But I prefer a comb and cigarette paper - if the comb hasn't been cleaned you can save time by flossing as you play. |

Subject: RE: YORKSHIRE GATHERING 2003 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 25 Apr 03 - 12:35 PM Fair bit of space Alan but I could do to know how many caravans, tents, vans etc so we can plan the space. Will be going down to the pub very soon for a final check and sort out. |
