I think that's a great idea, Cork would be a fine location.
But it might be better to have a meeting on the continent in 2005, and have the Cork meeting in 2006. Come to think of it, do we know any mudcatters in France/Italy/Denmark etc.?

My participation depends, alas, on the costs of transport; nevertheless I'm eager to come to see and hear North Lincolnshire men in their natural habitat.

The thread title hints at the date, but to dignify it with days, we kick off on the night of Friday 30th April, and disperse during Monday 3rd May, which is a public holiday in the UK. The weather can usually be relied on to be appalling at that time, with the notable recent exceptions of 1997 (when we changed Governments) and 2003. Yes, we British are obsessed with weather. I mention this here in case any potential attendees are already packing; put in ice pick and crampons as well as the bikini wax.

We are to gather in the village of Barrow Upon Humber, in North Lincolnshire, here . Barrow is about five kilometres south of the city of Hull, across the wide expanse of the muddy River Humber. From Hull, one has to use the magnificent Humber Bridge, which alights at Barton Upon Humber, four miles to the west of Barrow.

We are still fine tuning the event, and will post more here nearer the time. I will also do some research on local accomodation in the reasonably near future.

Oh poor me, I'm growing old - when an experienced librarian doesn't see a title any more, he should be drummed out to the library wall and fusilladed with all honours.
If you could care for a simple accomodation: with
1. 2 strong older trees in the garden for my hammock, distance not less then 5 yards (oaks or/and limetreespreferred, not younger than 100 years),
2. a small place for a dachshund garage (the regulation field tent), or
3. any space under any roof (above or under a table about 6"6' long and 3" wide) I should be more than content.
How to get there cheap? Is there a Ryanair terminal near?

Wilfried, to get there cheap: throw yourself into the nearest river you can find. Always swim downstream. At one point you should end up in the north sea - head for Great Britain, once you see it follow its east coast to the north, then swim up a bit of the Humber - four miles before you come under the bridge, get onto the lefthand (according to swimming direction) bank... ;-)

Are you expecting any treouble? And why do you want to record it? ;-)

Wilfried, if you are rash enough not to take Andreas' sound advice, a poor second would be shinning up the mooring ropes of the Pride of Rotterdam.

Flying is a cheap option, but sadly the nearest airport that offers runway space to budget airlines is Leeds/Bradford, and you will then be involved with expensive and time consuming rail journeys. We do have a perfectly suitable international airport on our doorstep, at Kirmington (Humberside Airport), but only sheiks and lottery winners are able to afford to use it.

I would suggest booking P&O Ferries out of Rotterdam Europoort, as a foot passenger, on the night of Thursday 29th April 2004, disembarking in Hull on the morning of Friday 30th April, spend the day probing the soft underbelly of Hull, after which I will collect you and drive you over the water to Barrow. Likewise, I will return you to the ferry terminal in Hull to catch the evening boat on Monday 3rd May. Change any of the dates above to suit your itinerary (i.e. I can have one of my people meet the Saturday morning boat, and/or deliver you back on Sunday night)

Andy and Wilfried, we should be able to run to floorspace for both of you, so consider yourselves housed, however Spartan the truckle

So that's sorted.

I too can remember the Stony Stratford Kazoo Orchestra. Does the new model have buttons or keys ? With the tin kazoos the main trouble was that they could be rather sharp - I once ripped my hand open on one !
