Subject: Lyr Req: variant of patrick spens From: Sam L Date: 28 Mar 03 - 10:09 PM The one in the DT has interesting variations on the verses I used to hear sung, especially about the Scots Lords, about which I was always curious--seemed there should be more in the way of the political intonations. And some verses are identical or close. But I remember a few others--long may the ladies wait, their gold combs in their hair--not crucial verses, but does anyone know such a version? There was no mention of Norowa that I recall. thanks, Fred |

Many of them keep the combs, fans and so on, but leave out Norway. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: variant of patrick spens From: EBarnacle1 Date: 29 Mar 03 - 01:53 AM I once spent a little time putting a 'real' version of Patrick Spens together, as I get annoyed at the meaningless snippets we get in school and in most versions. It was only about 28 verses long but it told the story and gave the motivations well. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: variant of patrick spens From: Sam L Date: 29 Mar 03 - 05:21 PM Thanks, I saw some references to Child on threads but didn't know where to go. The lost bits may be quite unimportant except that they nag my memory, and it's great to be able to sort through this. Fred |
