Looks like I'm gonna be a real gramma around Sept. 1. Son and girlfriend of 6 yrs are preggers. Not actually a welcomed event, but will love the critter anyway! I know I have told several of you about this in Chat, but waited until she was out of the Danger Period before posting it.

Hey, don't congratulate me, I'm not boffing the son's GF!, LOL! A Grand Dog was all I ever wanted........grin.

As one who has been a grandpa for not quite 10 years (and happily sleeping with a granny for the same length of time, spaw) all I can say is "congratulations and good luck."

We both agreed its no the kid's fault his parents showed no sense. We just love him, and his six siblings that followed.... (Got a picture of the oldest sleeping in grandpa's arms having been sung to sleep through every pipe tune I could remember, then bugle calls - through the entire camp duty (infantry) and much of the camp duty (cavalry) up to "sabres and spurs"... then he drifted off. He was 4 months at the time, and is nearly 10 years old now.)

A friend of mine pointed out that I was not going to be one of those always-available grandmas though, and that sometimes when they want me to babysit, I might have to tell them that "Granny's got a gig."

Friend of a friend went for her ultrasound and was asked if they wanted to know the sex. They said yes, OK, and the technician turned the monitor towards them and said 'here we are, it's a boy, and we know it's a boy because he is in fact, masturbating.'

We weren't given the option (so many pregnant women in my area suffer 'accidents' if they know they are having a girl) so Bratling was a suprise, although, having a C-section (medical grounds, not just too posh to push), we could see what she was before we saw her face - it was the first bit of her that saw daylight. She was head up, legs stretched out (rather than flexed in) and with her back to my back.... every awkward way a baby could be except possibly sideways.

Get those knitting needles out Sorcha, he needs a fluffy bonnet knitted to look like a bunny - and we want pictures!

WE ARE HAVING A BABY TOMORROW!!! (Oct. 16th) One way or another, Owen will be here tomorrow. They are going to induce because ultra sound says he is over 8 lbs and Tiny Little Mamma is very tiny with NO hips to speak of. If she has trouble, they will do a C-section. They have to be there at 6:30 AM and I can't get there until about 4 PM (1600) so if there is a section, I might be Granny before I get there!!!

OK, still no baby. Started the pit about 7 AM, and by 6PM she was only dialated to 4. Did an ultrasound and his arm is up over his head so they stopped the pit for tonight, will try again in AM and if no better results, C section tomorrow.

WE HAVE A BABY!! It is a boy, so welcome Owen Jareth to the planet. Born naturally at 4:03 PM, MDT. 7 lbs 10 oz, 19" long. Natural but he had to be sucked out with a giant vacum cleaner thing which sort of bunged up his head. Dr. said he had the longest fingernails she had ever seen on a newborn. Little Mamma said "No wonder my belly hurt all the time. He was trying to dig his way out!". Light brown hair but not much of it, and of course, newborn blue eyes right now. He is a pretty baby, not all messed up from being born except for a bruise/sore spot on his head from the 'vacum'. Pretty, long fingers. All the usual complement of fingers and toes, but he seems to be sucking 'backwards'. Might be a small problem. He is currently a "Cone Head' because of being stuck in so small a place for so long, but that will go away very soon. Iz a Granny for real now!!!! WHEEEE! We are gonna have sooooo much fun!

I've been close to 5 Librans now, and not one of them have any of the above qualities.... at least 2 of them would start a fight in an empty room! Still here's hoping that Owen is the exception.

p.s. hey Sorcha--i just sent a picture of your quilt to
the mud cat archives...there may be one there already,
but I printed it out and pasted it on the the front of
the mud cat cook book!! Great image....is in on the cat
any where? I sent it to Banjer....whose name is listed
as Pene's helper in the photo dept.
For those who have not seen it, the quilt was an auction
item created some years ago for the benefit of Mud Cat.
Not sure where it ended up but presumable some lucky person
who bid on it now enjoys having it.
