Subject: Lyr Req: For song cont' 'pretty little fat girl' From: GUEST,Graham Philpotts - UK Date: 09 Apr 03 - 04:46 PM Hi Back in the late 70's a friend of mine sang a song containing the words - " pretty little fat girl slept inside my bed"- it's a slow mellow song and I seem to remember him saying it was by Ewan McColl. If it was by Ewan McColl I can't find and reference it it, does this ring a bell with anyone, (the song that is, not old memories!) My friend Eddie was a big folkie and an excellent guitarist at the time and I'm sure he picked it up whilst on the local folk scene back then. Cheers |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: For song cont' 'pretty little fat girl' From: Lanfranc Date: 09 Apr 03 - 06:47 PM Ewan McColl be bu**ered - that song is by fellow Mudcatter Harvey Andrews! "Sweet little fat girl, slept in my bed, Keeping me warm, keeping me fed. Blushing and turning and shaking her head, saying, be gentle and love me." It's on Harvey's album "Friends of Mine". Harvey's website will have details of the availability of the album, and maybe even the lyrics. I don't have the URL handy, but a Google for "Harvey Andrews" should reveal it. Great song, great album - well worth getting. Alan |

However the album is not available on the website at the moment as I'm negotiating with the owners of my recorded work for the rights to produce the cd for the next three years. Should have it all sorted within a few weeks. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sweet Little Fat Girl (Harvey Andrews From: GUEST,Graham Philpotts Date: 16 Apr 03 - 09:09 AM Thanks for putting me right to the correct writer (sorry Harvey), at least I nearly got the words correct. The song has stayed with me for 25 years and although I played a bit of guitar then, it is only in the past 4 years I've taken it up more seriously. It was for this reason I wanted more info on the song. It's testement to the song that a fraction of it survived in my mind for this long and pushed me in to finding out more. I'd be grateful if any one had the lyrics or knew if they have been published, even better if it came with chords. I'll keep a look out for the LP/CD and many thanks to all that replied. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Scrapbook of promises a headful of dr From: GUEST,Phil Hill Date: 22 Sep 13 - 07:47 AM One song I remember goes.. scrapbook of promises a headful of dreams, a coat made of leather with no thread in the seams Old pair of boots that let in rain I am back on the road again dusty old seats in a dirty old bar broken flats on an old guitar alcohol round my brain Im back on the road again I said, back on the road again. I made a record sometime ago It didnt sell many a hundred or so Ive got one at home somewhere, but now it wont play, time wore it away One thing I know from a million miles life is a woman, cheats as she smiles nothing to bring you but pain Im back on the road again I said, back on the road again But is there any more? I have struggled to find the full lyrics and I am sure that cant be it? Phil |
Subject: Lyr Add: DOWN SO LONG IT LOOKS LIKE UP (H Andrews) From: Jim Dixon Date: 26 Sep 13 - 06:28 PM Phil Hill: The song you have quoted seems to be DOWN SO LONG IT LOOKS LIKE UP. It is from Harvey Andrews' album "Friends of Mine" (1974). I found the following lyrics at Lyrix.at. I haven't heard the song, so I can't verify the lyrics are correct: Scrapbook of promises is a head full of dreams. A coat made of leather with no thread in the seams. Old pair of books that let in rain, I'm back on the road again. Rusty old strings on a broken guitar, Dusty old seats in a dirty old bar. Alcohol round my brain, I'm back on the road again. I've got friends who let me stay, Talk all night and drink the dawn away, Bed down on the floor, sleep all day, Then it's time to play. One thing I know from a million miles, Life is a woman-cheats as she smiles. Nothing to give you but pain, I'm back on the road again, road again. [Instrumental solo] I made a record some time ago It didn't sell many – a hundred or so. I've got one at home somewhere but now it won't play, Time wore it away. Oh one thing I know from a million miles, Life is a woman-cheats as she smiles. Nothing to give you the pain, I'm back on the road again. I said back on the road again, Hey hey back on the road again. |
Subject: Lyr Add: SWEET LITTLE FAT GIRL (Harvey Andrews) From: GUEST Date: 26 Sep 13 - 06:33 PM SWEET LITTLE FAT GIRL by Harvey Andrews Sweet little fat girl, slept in my bed, Keeping me warm, keeping me fed, Blushing and turning and shaking her head, She saying be gentle and love me. Old empty bottles rolled on the floor, I drunk and reeling locked up the door, Young and uncaring for what went before, She saying be gentle and love me, But love was out calling and just didn't know That I was there falling with nowhere to go, Down into freedom that took me so low, Not gentle or able to love her. Then she was crying, soundless and small. I said, "Yes, tomorrow, well, maybe I'll call," But soon I was sleeping forgetting it all, She saying be gentle and love me. But love was out calling and just didn't know That I was there falling with nowhere to go, Down into freedom that took me so low, Not gentle or able to love her. I woke in the morning and there through the wine, I thought of the pain, hers for all time, And I knew that I'd taken what never was mine, She saying be gentle and love me. Sweet little fat girl, you slept in my bed, Keeping me warm, keeping me fed. Don't you turn from me and don't shake your head, If I say be gentle and love me. If I say be gentle and love me. from http://www.lyrix.at/de/text_show/d1468cf4f8275faefb5da5e48987223f-Harvey_Andrews_-_Sweet_Little_Fat_Girl |
