Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Bunnahabhain Date: 31 Oct 06 - 07:59 AM Some other possible story lines for the anniversery... They all lynch Linda Snell, to get out of having to do the pantomine again, and for the general greater good. Someone in the complicated triangle surrounding little george kidnaps him. This is not good for the fragile Ed. Bert Fry and Grundy senior develop a nasty case of competitive yokel-itis, which forces the goverment to introduce a protective presumtive cull of the whole village. TB outbreak at brookfield, to really make it a good week for david. Or possibly foot and mouth scare. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 31 Oct 06 - 06:20 AM For maximum drama, and subsequent agonising and soul-searching, Ruth will come to her senses the day after the big 'anniversary' episode, in which David will have caught her in flagrante in the cowshed. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 31 Oct 06 - 06:08 AM Usha Gupta will kidnap her, and keep her captive until she regains her senses. So we all have a long wait. Or maybe Sam will explode with desire, and make a nasty mess in the cowshed. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Folkiedave Date: 31 Oct 06 - 05:04 AM And when WILL Ruth come to her senses? Another week or so I reckon....... |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Anne Lister Date: 31 Oct 06 - 04:49 AM There are several American listeners who post on the message board on the BBC site, so we don't need to get too imperialist about it all. And some Aussies, too. But nothing quite beats being brought up with it - listening to the omnibus edition on a Sunday morning as we cleared away breakfast. A bit like watching Dr Who with toast and marmite on a Saturday evening.... And when WILL Ruth come to her senses? Anne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST,ancient briton Date: 31 Oct 06 - 03:27 AM hearing the Archers is yet another benefit of membership of the Empire upon whic the sun never sets. You american chaps should have thought about that AB |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 31 Oct 06 - 03:06 AM Not JUST a fictional radio drama! It's the longest running soap in the world. In February it reaches it's 56th birthday. One of the original actors is still in it. Lots of English people have grown up with it from hearing it when their Mum's and Dad's (and grandparents) listened to it. Some of the characters are the great grandchildren of the originals. It's a soap with history! And something of a British institution. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: terrier Date: 30 Oct 06 - 07:15 PM Can this thread be relocated to MUSTARD LAND ? Somebody told me that the Archers was only a piece of fictional radio drama! Can you believe it!!! |

Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Steve Parkes Date: 10 Sep 03 - 05:13 AM Ah yes, I've heard some good ones. Saw him on This is your life though, and actually saw him act on a tv drama a while back. Not to mention Noel's House Party ... in fact, I wish I hadn't. Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 10 Sep 03 - 04:08 AM A little programme called With great Pleasure, on Radio4, in which an old or favoured actor is allowed to reminisce about his or her life and loves. Sometimes a boring programme, sometimes an uproarious romp. Charles fell somewhere between the two. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Steve Parkes Date: 10 Sep 03 - 04:02 AM The next to come in is Charles Collingwood, He's a dirty old man and they bay for his blood ... Not Charles himself, of course, but his character. No, I missed him. What was it about? Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Mr Red Date: 09 Sep 03 - 05:02 PM Sorry to introduce a note of FOLK into all this but they are talking of another Barn Dance - as if they actually know the difference between E-ceilidh (English Ceildh) C&W. Not that I listen of course but the on/off switch is too far away while I am happytapping. FWIW I did listen to Charles Collingwood 2night at 6=30. Didn't everyone? |

Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Dave Bryant Date: 08 Sep 03 - 12:26 PM Perhaps Clive likes fresh horsemeat steaks ...or perhaps he's a vampire ! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Steve Parkes Date: 08 Sep 03 - 08:43 AM Clive Horabin (should that ebe "Horrorbin"?) is Susan Carter's ne'er-do-well brother, who disappeared into the murky underworld kens of the Big Smoke (London to the innocent and ignorant). Last time he was around she got six months for sheltering him. This time she should murder hiom and bury his body under the patio. I think The Archers is the only Soap where nobody's done this yet. (They did it for real in Walsall, where I came from!) I still think mytheory is in with a chance; Clive was probably sacrificing chickens or goats (or horses) to Mammon. Steve |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: sian, west wales Date: 07 Sep 03 - 10:21 AM Yeh - but Clive obviously didn't know that the farm had changed hands since he's been 'inside' so ... Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Skipjack K8 Date: 07 Sep 03 - 09:02 AM Ah well, Clive met up with Leo in chokey, and Leo has promised Clive a ficticious fortune if Clive can ruin nasty Alistair, who, after all, ran off with their business after Leo had been caught doing a line or two of poets Persil. Personally, I never forgave Alistair for executing Doctor Richard, who was the only one who really made Saint Shula wriggle. |
