Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 16 Apr 07 - 06:10 AM I thought for a minute that was a fake Sir j0hn, then I spotted the deliberate mistake. Hello John, how's the taxi trade? G. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: sian, west wales Date: 16 Apr 07 - 06:09 AM Na, I think Adam and Ian should adopt him. It's very weird - feeling sorry for Brian, of all people. I'm with MBSL: Jennifer will fold. sian |

Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 16 Apr 07 - 06:00 AM Much as I love the actress who plays Debbie in her real skin, I loathe the Debbie character, and if she's upset, then that makes it all worthwhile in my book. Kate is another waste of space, and South Africa's not far enough away for her, even the Moon's not far enough! I do though agree that somehow Rory will end up in Ambridge, maybe Roy and Hayley will be paid to adopt him? Giok G. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 16 Apr 07 - 05:47 AM AND she had an affair with Debbie's father in fairly recent years. However, I can understand her point of view. In this instance I feel really sorry for Brian who, with all his shortcomings has always been a pretty good father. To take on someone else's children is not an easy thing but he does appear to consider the two step-children as his own. No surprise then, that he should care about little Rory. The whole crux of the matter is that at some point before long, there will be a little boy of, what, five? with no mother. He needs his father. Interesting to see what Debbie's reaction will be. Do we know if Kate knows about it? My bet is that, in the end Jennifer will give in and take him Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Folkiedave Date: 16 Apr 07 - 04:31 AM It´s the hypocrisy of Jennifer "four children by three different fathers" Aldridge making out she is some sort of rural lairdette when in fact she is little better than a Trollope |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 16 Apr 07 - 04:30 AM Difficult one, lad should be with his Dad if possible, but I can understand Jennifer's angst too, although for a lady with her history, wringing her hands about what the neighbours will think is a bit hypocritical. She also claims to be worried about what her ghastly spoilt brat Alice will think. Well from what I have heard so far, her response would be 'Cool', as that's about the sum total of her conversation. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 16 Apr 07 - 04:16 AM So would YOU take on Rory? Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 17 Dec 06 - 06:12 AM Tell you what...let's talk to Lillian! She'll be in it if we tell her it will be a laugh and she'll get right up Jolene's nose by arranging it whether they say so or not! Adam will be 40 next June. I know some pretty gorgeous guys of 39 or so! Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 16 Dec 06 - 01:39 PM I was wondering which was Adam and which was Ian (not having your advantage, Lynne). And I suppose Adam must be pushing forty, so we can't expect a young Adonis. Maybe Ian has been sampling too much of his own cooking. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST,Ancient Briton Date: 16 Dec 06 - 12:33 PM The Bull must be ok as Fallon has promoted a number of rock evenings there. How about a ceilidh - our band would do it for a small consideration. We'll also back Jolene in a little half-time cameo spot. AB |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 16 Dec 06 - 07:59 AM Sid Perks is too bloody miserable, anyway I don't suppose he has a PEL in place. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 16 Dec 06 - 07:08 AM Hmmm...one of the few things that hasn't been on the Archers in it's 55 year history. You're right Gervase...I saw the photo of AdamandIan in the Radio Times. I had seen Adam before so he was no surprise but Ian was so totally unlike his voice I could hardly believe it. He looks something like Alexi Sale!! So who's up for a Christmas sing in the Bull as a preliminary to the Folk Club? Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST,Ancient Briton Date: 15 Dec 06 - 03:39 PM Sorry for the lapse I've been away hedge laying. I've run out of TVO so the tractor stays where it is. Suburban sopisticates who can't punctuate really bring out the beast in me. Which reminds me that there's another more rural sexual pastime that Vanessa's yet to add to the Archers mix......will Ed start getting dewy-eyed about Daisy the Jersey? It's only a matter of time... Someone should alert the RSPCA in time to prevent another radio atrocity. AB |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Gervase Date: 15 Dec 06 - 03:33 PM Not a dry leg in the house! I must confess, though, that when I saw the photo of Adamanian in the Guardian i almost choked on my toast - two uglier coves it would be hard to picture. Truly the love that dare not show its face. In our household we're taking bets on whether Helen's Tenerife shagfest will be the harbinger for a story line on chlamydia (why isn't one of Lynda snell's god-daughters cslled that?), AIDS or pregnancy. And, if it's the latter, if Helen will hand the sprog over to Hailey. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 15 Dec 06 - 09:51 AM Well I must say RAT-W and I shared the sick-bucket during the wedding, but I did enjoy the episode. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 15 Dec 06 - 06:13 AM Maybe not just her own agenda - I believe Hayley may be a victim of a government-sponsored clamydia awareness campaign. (But then, The Archers began as a medium for government-sponsored awareness campaigns aimed at 'countryfolk', so we shouldn't be too surprised.) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 15 Dec 06 - 05:06 AM Well the much trailed gay wedding on the Archers last night, left no cliche untouched. I laughed my way through almost the entire episode. Vanessa Whitburn has reduced the programme to a vehicle for her own personal agendas, that's my opinion. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Skipjack K8 Date: 02 Dec 06 - 04:45 PM Well, Lynne, thanks for that, turns out old Jazzer is a Stomach Steinway Man! I must try some K. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 02 Dec 06 - 03:45 PM Hah! I was wrong! He's six feet tall and has glass eyes 'cos he's blind!! Not really very close Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 02 Dec 06 - 03:39 PM So what does Jazzer look like? Or will I be disappointed? I imagine him to be shortish, stocky with curly black hair and blue eyes Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 02 Dec 06 - 05:55 AM Helen looks just as I expected, unlike Fallon, who is much more 'full of life' on my radio. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 02 Dec 06 - 05:31 AM Helen Archer Pretty lady, and a compatriot of El Greko's too, by the look of things! Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 02 Dec 06 - 05:19 AM Helen, not Ruth. I've never liked Helen she was a miserable little cow in her teens as well. What is called "White and spiteful" by the older people around here. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST, ... Date: 02 Dec 06 - 04:38 AM Thanks Giok. I/me did in fact put in too many commas. But no one (apart from Ancient Briton, apparently) could possibly think I was applying that description to Lynne. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 02 Dec 06 - 04:25 AM It looks to me like feuds start with misread or badly punctuated posts AB, as "Guest,..." is so obviously fond of commas, he/she appears to have put an extraneous one in after the word one in their post. However he/she goes on to say both which can only mean that he/she meant 2 people i.e. Helen and Ruth. So put your tractor away like a good boy, and go and hoe yer turmits! Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST,Ancient Briton Date: 02 Dec 06 - 03:23 AM My tractor's on your lawn, Guest. Leave Lynne alone or I'll harrow your turnips. (this is how rural feuds really start) Come to Ambridge and we'll sort it out man to man outside the Bull (although as this is an Archer's thread you're probably a girl anyway). People like you just can't see that it's a waste of time trashing imaginary characters. Stick to picking on Helen or Ruth..... |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST, ... Date: 01 Dec 06 - 03:50 PM which one, Lynne, Helen or Ruth (or both)? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 01 Dec 06 - 02:04 PM I sympathise with her being taken advantage of but I still think she's a humouless, self-pitying bitch. :-) Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 01 Dec 06 - 09:01 AM Lots of pity for Ruth then, who kissed and cuddled in the cowshed with a man not her husband, and none for Helen who is free agent, and has been taken advantage of by a known lothario! I smell female double standards! Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 01 Dec 06 - 08:21 AM I agree, it's just like Helen. She's a pain in the bum who wallows in self pity if anything doesn't go her way. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Folkiedave Date: 01 Dec 06 - 07:57 AM She would have been that stupid, IMHO it is just like her!! Scriptwriters? What do you mean scriptwriters? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Michael Date: 01 Dec 06 - 07:21 AM On the Helen and Ross story; Helen isn't like that, She wouldn't have been that stupid, I sometimes wonder if the the current script writers (at any given time) ever listend to the programme. Mike |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 01 Dec 06 - 05:01 AM Where Ruth went wrong was in wallowing in self-pity instead of getting on with the life she chose - not so promising for future storylines though. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST Date: 01 Dec 06 - 03:33 AM David should kick Ruth out, the only questions that arrise are haw hard and how far!!!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST,Ancient Briton Date: 01 Dec 06 - 03:32 AM David flirted mildly and when confronted with the prospect of physical action, stepped back. Ruth made a profound and repeated emotional committment with a certain prospect of bedroom action before drawing back. David enjoyed a single stolen kiss, whilst Sam's grubby prints are goodness knows where. No real equivalence there I'm afraid. The subtext of the plotline seems to be that the envelope for "moral" behaviour for men is much smaller than that for women. It doesn't seem fair. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 01 Dec 06 - 03:00 AM But in the end she didn't actually go through with it, so she hasn't really done much more than David. Like him, she turned it down when it was offered on a plate Love Lynne |

Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 30 Nov 06 - 03:12 PM This just typical, a man is inconsiderate, and by way of revenge it is all right for a woman to do absolutely anything ! Yes let's have sexual equality, let's stop women dominating men, and while we're at it, annexing the moral high ground even when they're in the wrong! Giok I'll get me coat! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Folkiedave Date: 30 Nov 06 - 02:33 PM he's the one who turned it down when it was offered to him on a plate! Well, he was having intimate conversations with Sophie, glamorous get-togethers to which Ruth was invited as an afterthought. And let us not forget the trigger that finally sent her into the arms of Sam....or not as it happens. And I know her type, that Sophie, she would carry on trying to seduce David until he finally succmbed, lucky sod....... We used to mek us own fun in them days. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: GUEST, Topsie Date: 30 Nov 06 - 02:31 PM Whereupon David would get particularly friendly with 'Mrs Whoeveritwas' that he was arranging to deliver two boxes of who knows what to the other day on the telephone. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: John MacKenzie Date: 30 Nov 06 - 02:27 PM He's not the one who cuddled in the cowshed, or even considered adultery, he's the one who turned it down when it was offered to him on a plate! Giok Stay in the saddle David! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: MBSLynne Date: 30 Nov 06 - 02:23 PM Remember Nigel's "Cuckoo" as he searched the house for Shula and ended up in Phil and Jill's room? Remember Shula and Simon whatsisname? John and Sharon? Jennifer and Roger (on his reappearance in the area, not when they were married) etc etc Btw, what do we think the solution is to the current Brookfield impasse? I think Ruth should up sticks and take the kids to her mother's for Christmas telling David she's had enough and if that's how he wants it....He'd soon climb down off his high horse. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: BS: The Archers UK Soap From: Folkiedave Date: 30 Nov 06 - 11:27 AM And there was a cartoon in the previous edition with the sounds of love-making coming from the cowshed. "Moo! Ahhhh! Moo! Ahhhh! Mooo Ahhhh........." However the sounds of rumpty tumpty in the Archers are not new.......Given a couple of days and a few reference books I could probably list them all. We used to mek us own fun in them days. Dave |
