Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: LadyJean Date: 02 Jan 04 - 01:12 AM I was 18. I was having dinner with an older friend, who had spent a year in what was then Yugoslavia, on a Fulbright. She cooked a traditional Yugoslavian meal, topped with a shotglass full of Sleivovitz. She said something is Serbian, and gulped her's straight down. Like a fool so did I. It was two years before I touched anything alcoholic again. Last night I was one of five ladies belly dancing around Frannie's dining room table. I'd had a glass and a half of champagne. You know how you can tell if a man is too young? If he thinks getting drunk and throwing up is fun. |
Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Benjamin Date: 02 Jan 04 - 02:00 AM I heard about this game from the guitarist of the Tannahil Weavers- Put 6 bottles of whisky in a small room. Two people go into the room and drink all the whisky. One person leaves, and the other one has to guess which one just left. I think that story might be funnier in a Scottish accent. |
Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Rapparee Date: 02 Jan 04 - 07:53 AM Drinking isn't like rugby or soccer or football or polo. Drinking is important, almost sacred. If you want to get your head split open or run around in your shorts in the cold and wet, admit it and go play games. If you want to sit in comfort by the fire and watch others run around in the cold and wet in their shorts while getting their heads split open, drink. Why would you need either an excuse or a game to do so? |

Something about a large number of folks (likely about 25 or so...hanging around this mammoth table celebrating someone's birthday...there was a song to it and when your number, month or year was called you and anyone else who matched the given information would have to stand up and slam down a glass of beer...the last person still standing with brew in their mug had to drink another whilst others chanted...it was great fun! Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: mike the knife Date: 02 Jan 04 - 10:57 AM Many many moons ago, when I was young and immortal, some friends & I played a game w/ an axe. Almost embarrassed about it. You hold a decent-sized wood-splitting axe at the bottom of the handle, elbow locked & using your wrist, s-l-o-w-l-y bring the edge of the axe to your own forehead & back up again. Only one mishap involving actual blood loss. A Miracle actually. I won't even go into the stupid rugby antics. You get older, you stop doing stupid stuff... |
Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Rapparee Date: 02 Jan 04 - 11:10 AM Heck, mtk, we did stuff like that in Boy Scouts. Stand with you feet together, toss a knife or axe, and stretch to where it sticks. That's "Stretch." "In Between" was the opposite. Start with you feet apart, throw a knife or axe between them, and move the closest foot to wherever the thing sticks. Repeat until someone chickens out or loses body parts. We didn't drink (alcoholic beverages) when we did these things. We were just too young to know better. We also messed with flaming arrows and various uses for gunpowder, but the least said about those the better. |
Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Nigel Parsons Date: 02 Jan 04 - 12:35 PM SPOOF A drinking game to decide who pays for the next round of drinks. Each player has a number of coins in their pocket (minimum3) At an agreed signal each player brings his/her (hereafter HIS) clenched fist from his pocket holding 0,1,2 or more coins (anything over 3 counts as 3) Each player in turn estimates the total number of coins being held (i.e maximum 3* number of players, minimum zero), No player may guess a number already claimed during that turn. Anyone guessing correctly the total drops out and awaits a drink paid for by the last person left in. The element of 'Spoof' comes in as it is easier to guess the total once others have guessed. (If the first 3 of 4 people guess 'High' it is a good chance that their average holding is greater than the1.5 average) When you're down to 2 players, and playing first, do you make an honest attempt at the total, or 'spoof' to throw your opponent off and let you guess second?? I used to get several evenings of free drinks playing this with a regular crowd of half a dozen in our local club. As it was a completely 'random' game, no-one kept count of the percentage of 'rounds' they actually bought! Nigel |
Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: ToulouseCruise Date: 02 Jan 04 - 01:15 PM my favorite drinking game... The Century Club... Very simple rules... each person involved must drink one ounce of beer per minute for a period of 100 minutes. Bathroom trips are permitted, but they must bring their bottle and shotglass in with them to consume upon the passing of the minute(s)... if ya hurl, y'er out! Biggest problem is keeping time/track... as one gets more inebriated (around 9 bottles of beer consumed in an hour and forty minutes) it makes it hard to watch that little second hand go around, and no one who stays sober can put up with the group getting sloshed! My solution? Preprogrammed my personal electronic organizer to have the alarm go off every minute for 100 minutes -- keeps a count that way too! Brian. |

Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Cluin Date: 03 Jan 04 - 03:37 PM Yep, we all did the Century Club 1st year at uni. I quit at 100 though some guys kept going. I believe 215 was the limit 2 guys went that night before a mutually agreed draw. I was asleep by then. Another game we played was "Caps". Several varieties there are, all involving accuracy of tossing or flipping a beer cap at a target, and drinking when you miss, thus increasing your inaccuracy the more you miss. Our version had two "opponents" sitting spread-legged about 12 feet apart, each with a beer cap laying upside down on top of a full bottle of beer in front of their respective crotches. The object was to toss another cap over and try to knock the opponent's cap off their bottle. If you were successful, the opponent had to drink (either a long swallow or else chug the whole thing if the game started later in the evening). Game went on till someone puked or quit. |

You all get together to watch an episode of the old Bob Newhart show (the one where he's a psychiatrist) with 2 beers in hand. Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: LadyJean Date: 03 Jan 04 - 11:47 PM The Duquesne University Tamburitzans perform a "Hat Dance" that is actually a drinking game. A group of young men stand in a circle, and pass their hats from head to head in different patterns, getting more complicated as the "dance" goes on. Apparently, one is supposed to take a drink between patterns. If someone breaks the pattern, they're out of the game. It ends with two young men passing their hats back and forth. If the Tammies come to town, go and see them. They're pretty spectacular. |
Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Raedwulf Date: 05 Jan 04 - 12:16 AM Whilst I'd largely agree with Clinton (drinking games are for idiots), I did come across this quite by accident (I was looking up something about celery salt)! Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 05 Jan 04 - 11:13 AM I can't agree with Clinton and Raedwulf. The traditional drinking games of old performed at German universities are mostly connected with songs to enforce and enjoy hard drinking. There is a great variety of performances, e.g. where to put the glass when singing or when to drink, or where to drink (under the table, upon the table &c). The Four Task Card Deck Song You need: 1 deck of 32 cards 1 glass, pint (The deck of 32 cards contains the numbers referred to below) Put a full glass in the middle and sing: And the seven and the eight and and the nine and the ten, and the knave and the queen and the king and the ace Deal out a card at every number sung, one for each participant. If the card dealt corresponds to the number sung, the person in question has to perform the task which is due in the series. Task One: Take the first gulp. Task Two: Drink until a part of the bottom is seen. Task Three: Drink the rest. Task Four: Pay the next glass. Repeat ad nauseam or until the majority cries for mercy. You will see that after some repetitions the hardest task will be Task Two since Task One will be performed with the smallest quantity possible, and everybody will be eager to perform Task Four only. A game without singing is The Beer Clock You need: 1 hammer 1 nail 1 cord, length 1' 1 piece of chalk 1 key 1 glass, pint, for everyone Hammer the nail vertically into the table. Draw a circle around the nail with the cord and the chalk. Divide the circle into as many equal sections as there are participants. Put the key with its hole over the nail. Snip the key with your fingers to set it into rotations not less than 2 rounds. Where the key stops mark the section. Repeat this ritual until one participant has three marks (bad luck). He will stand you the next round. The game may be repeated ad nauseam or until the majority cries for mercy. Cheerio Wilfried |
Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Jeanie Date: 05 Jan 04 - 11:52 AM I find it difficult to remember the finer points of this drinking game (oh well... *any* points, fine or otherwise, really) that was the favourite occupation in the bar of High & Ridge Halls, Birmingham Uni, ca. 1970s. It involved passing beer mats clockwise and anticlockwise simultaneously by crossing hands, balancing them on top of your glass (of Newcastle Brown), and singing the 7 dwarves' song "Heigh Ho !" (but with much more colourful lyrics). Anyone remember any more details about that one ? (I somehow doubt it !) - jeanie |

Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 06 Jan 04 - 05:37 AM A noisy game yours faithfully is proud of having invented during a boozing night in the prime of his life (didn't do it for about 35 years again). The German Beer Bottle Bowling You need: 10 bottles, beer, glass, 1 pint, empty, for playing n bottles, beer, glass, 1 pint, full, for drinking Arrange 9 empty bottles in the form of a diamond -------o -----o---o ---o---o---o <--- direction of attack -----o---o -------o at one end of the room. Go to the other end of the room. Take the tenth empty bottle and bowl. Try to crash as many bottles as possible. Do not replace deleted bottles. For every deleted bottle everybody present take a big gulp out of their full bottles, preparing the repetition. When all empty bottles are deleted, empty 10 full bottles at hand and start again. Note: the noise of the bottles crashing and the body jubilant might attract neighbours complaining. Go to the utmost level of politeness you can muster when telling them to shut up and piss off. Note 2: Americans may use an additional empty bottle for their awkward way of putting the pins. Cheers Wilfried |
Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Dave Bryant Date: 06 Jan 04 - 12:28 PM This is more of a Halloween game really. It's blindfolded apple-bobbing. The twist is that each contestant goes one at a time and before they are blindfolded are shown the bowl of water with the apple floating in it. While the blindfold is being applied, the bowl is switched for a chamber pot with the a small ammount of yellow food colouring in the water. Optional extra is a mock turd at the bottom (of the pot) and an old cgarette end often adds a bit of effect. After the contestant has managed to chew a few mouthfuls out of the apple, the blindfold is removed . . . . . . . . If you want an open air team game which includes plenty of beer drinking, you could always try Dwile Flonking. |
Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 06 Jan 04 - 04:58 PM Forks. One dining fork per player less one. One galss per player (that's GLASS, I think...) Pack of cards. 'n' bottles of booze of any type - usually someone has bought something like "Southern Mist" real cheap thinking it would be just like "Southern Comfort" only not cost as much - you get the idea - and discovered it is only good for OTHER people to frink (no - I'll leave that typo - it helps understand the game better!), so it gets donated to the centre of the table. The cards are distributed among all players, it doesn't matter if they are not even. If you run out of cards, you just grab some from the bottom (or whatever part you can handle - of the deck that is!) of the dicard pile. All plasses glayers are topped up. - Yeah, that's about it! Each player places a card on the discard pile. Then it's just like Snap! - if two cards are the same - ie 4's - then someone yells "Forks" and everybody has to grab a fork - dining type from table centre. Loser drinks - usually entire contents of glass. Start again at appropriate point above - if you can find it. Eventually every body has had enough, or the booze runs out, when it may be replaced by something else that some other person realises they really don't want to drink all by themselves either. Ooooohhhh! just thinking about it - I'm gonna lie down now.... Robin |
Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: Joe_F Date: 06 Jan 04 - 06:33 PM In my time at Caltech (1950s) there was a contest as follows: a plank was supported on concrete blocks. The contestants each consumed a measured amount of vodka at one end and attempted to walk it to the other. Those who made it consumed another measured amount & attempted to walk back. Repeat until only the winner is left. Oh, and you can make logs of ice by filling empty milk cartons, freezing them, and peeling off the cartons. Then support the logs at both ends, and have teams compete to see which can piss theirs in two first. |

Subject: RE: BS: Drinking Games & Dares From: LadyJean Date: 07 Jan 04 - 01:22 AM The moronic frat rats I knew at Transylvania College played a game called "Wales Tails" That included the rhyme, "Prince of Wales has lost his tail, heads up number one." But I'm not sure how it was played. There was some story about it's origin, that a Prince of Wales had lost an arm in a war. I know that wasn't true, but the frat boys didn't. There's always, "The Night of the King's Castration", where everybody drinks to the king's word. "For in those days the king's word was law." That interesting piece was the creation of the ladies of the University of Chicago Law School. That always amuses me. |
