Hi Guys,
Thanks for the help on knickerbottom line. I've got all those tempting red numbers from the previous thread and I'm sure they just want to play themselves for me. Sadly I can't get the link to the software to work.
I've tried searching the web for it and end up back at other references to it on this site. It must be good!
Can anyone rescue me from this torment?
Doxy

YOu might be better going after something that will translate theABC text rather then the miditext -

but this link to http://miditext.8m.net/ was current for downloading the last time I needed it.

Miditext is no longer supported and probably can't be downloaded anymore (it was a good program though, Alan!) Follow Malcolm's advice on using ABCs instead.

MidiText can be downloaded using the link given by Guest above (I've just downloaded a copy). Although I would use normaly use ABC, I think it could be worth obtaining MidiText just in case any of the ABCs sounded strange.

As I come across them, I've been replacing MIDITEXT files with MIDIs. The thread under discussion (click) had the unfortunate title "Two Musselburgh Songs." I changed it to "Musselburgh Fair and Musselburgh Field" so it would at least include the titles of the primary songs discussed - but then it also includes "Knickerbocker Line." Well, they're all crosslinked.

Anyhow, I fixed the two MIDIs that are mentioned in the thread, and I hope that helps.

If you have a tune to post, send a MIDI to me.

My Heros!!!!!, I've just downloaded MIDItext & will be experimenting with using it. Will also look at the ABC stuff, though I've always resisted it so far as I read music & it seemed redundant to learn it. Fingers crossed I'll get the tune sorted now, but will be back for advice if it's too taxing for my feminie little brain.......
Thanks again, Doxy

Wow, thanks Joe.
Have now found & downloaded the relevant midi file from mudcat.
Have other people found 'midi notate' It's an excellent bit of software available at tucows & transcribes midi files into standard notation. It will then let you transpose & meddle with the music in other ways. Will also let you create midi files yourself & is quite simple to use (trust me I can manage it & I'm someone who as far as IT is concerned has fond abacus hankerings)
Gives a free trial period & considering it@s versatility is good value at about £15 which is what I paid when I got it
Knickerbocker line is on it's way!
Cheers Doxy
