I've just had the Syllabus for the International in 2005 and, as the closing date for the groups competitions is Nov 1, 2004, I thought I'd better post the info for anyone foolhardy enough to actually enjoy competition!
The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod has just published it's Syllabus for it's 59th festival, to be held from the 5th to 10th of July, 2005. Ontrac readers take note of the new Celtic Music Competitions:
Massed Ensemble* of not less than 12 and not more than 60 competitors including marching/pipe bands. Programme and/or display of not more than 12 minutes duration. Possible preliminary Session: 8th July, Competition: 9th July. First Prize: International Trophy and £600; Second, £300; Third, £200.
Small Group / Ensemble* of not less than 2 and not more than 11 competitors; instrumental, vocal or combined instrumental and vocal, including Celtic bands. A programme of traditional and authentic Celtic music of not more than 8 minutes duration. Competition: 8th July, First Prize: International Trophy and £300, Second: £150, Third: £100
Instrumental Solo**: a programme of traditional and authentic Celtic music of not more than 6 minutes duration. Competition: 8th July, First Prize: International Medal and £200, Second: £100, Third: £75
Vocal Solo**: A programme of traditional Celtic vocal solo music, sung in the original language where opssible, of not more than 6 minutes duration. Accompaniment is allowed if it is an integral part of the traditional performance.
Dance Groups are encouraged to compete through the ongoing adult and children's Folk Dance competitions.
* All groups applying for this competition mus submit with their Application Form a recent video of 5-10 minutes duration. Must be received by 1st November 2004
** All soloists must submit with their Application Form a recent cd/audio cassette recording of 3-5 minutes duration or an MP3 file submitted by email. Must be received by 28th February 2005.
