Subject: RE: Support the Dubliners' archive From: ard mhacha Date: 21 Aug 06 - 04:29 AM I seen the Dubliners in the Lyric Cinema in Lurgan Ireland, back in the late 1960s, I remember the show was late in starting due to Luke Having to be dragged out of John Byrne`s pub, it didn`t have any adverse effect on his singing voice, he was his usual brilliant self that night. Samuncandy good luck with your work. |

Subject: RE: Support the Dubliners' archive From: patriot1314 Date: 08 Dec 04 - 12:14 PM I had the pleasure of a day with Barney McKenna in his local pub. He invited a few of us over from Scotland and we had a great day. Got a few photos as well. |
Subject: RE: Support the Dubliners' archive From: Big Al Whittle Date: 08 Dec 04 - 12:07 PM The bloke you need to talk to is Ian Campbell. His group and the Dubs were all part of that early English/Scottish scene. His knowledge of and number of anecdotes is pretty much without parallel, I should have thought. So if I were you I'd get meself over to Ian switch on the tape recorder - ask him what he knows about the early days of the Dubliners - come back three or four hours later - follow up the leads - and your library will be pretty full! great man! |
Subject: RE: Support the Dubliners' archive From: GUEST Date: 08 Dec 04 - 07:31 AM I,m from London of Irish parents.I grew up listening to the Dubliners.I now live in Bewdley Worcestershire. According to Des Geraghtys book Luke Kelly was here in 1962 I,d love to know a bit more about this trip. The obvious question about the Dubliners is why is there no book about them.I assume they cannot agree on who should write it.What a story though. The remaining members aren,t young so they better get a move on. |
Subject: RE: Support the Dubliners' archive From: Steve Latimer Date: 01 Jul 04 - 02:41 PM Strange, I have been listening to nothing but Bluegrass for months, trying to improve my banjo playing. Today I'm doing a bunch of yard work, so I thought that I would listen to something else for a change. The first CD I put in the Walkman this morning was The Dubliners. Sorry I can't help with the archive, just thought it was an interesting coincidence. |
Subject: RE: Support the Dubliners' archive From: GUEST Date: 01 Jul 04 - 05:14 AM Great idea, I just saw them over at the Skagen Folk Festival, where they received an award. Ronnie Drew was there as well with The Hell Fire Band. |
Subject: Support the Dubliners' archive From: samundcandy Date: 01 Jul 04 - 04:08 AM For to look back on their long career the Dubliners have just established a private archive. I was officially appointed by John Sheahan to do the collecting work. The Dubliners ask all their friends to help and fill the archive with material of all periods of the Dubliners` career. We look for tv and radio programmes, private made photos, private concert recordings (audio and film) and other rare stuff from all over the world. For any copy we get from you for the Dubliners` archive you would get some rare stuff back in return of course. So please have a look on your own collected stuff and help us filling the Dubliners' archive. |
