Musical Greetings, All -

There's a song with lyrics such as:

"Down in New Orleans, she was" (etc) "I just might pass back this way again..."

etc

male vocal or male duo and guitar. Almost sounds like Gordon Lightfoot's that's what you get for loving me, but not quite, don't see it on any of his albums I know of.

Probably early to mid 70's...

any clues?

Isn't the song just called Chevy Van? Remember it being on the radio but can't remember who sang it.

The song mentioned by Gary is not Chevy Van, an early 70's chalkboard-scraper by Sammy Johns. Chevy Van doesn't contain the lyrics Gary mentioned, although this is the song to which Jan refers.

(Johns could not have been a proper hippy. Proper hippies drove VW Microbuses and made love by mountain streams. Disco guys after the chicks drove customized, full sized vans (no minivans in those days) equipped with beds, wet bars, large stereo systems, etc, and usually lined with plush purple shag carpeting. Often, a sign on the back door of the van announced "Don't Come A-Knockin' When The Van Is A-Rockin." God, the hideousness of those times never ceases to astound me.:))

Ha! In 1973 or 74 my cousin had one of those vans. "Love Shack" painted (or detailed?) on the outside of his baby blue chevy van. We are talking about more than a decade before the song by the B52s single.

Van completely lined internally with blue shag carpeting, even the ceiling. And had the compulsory 8 track tape deck. Snerk. Years later my baby brother bought it off a used car lot to use as a work van.

It is a sacrilege to compare(even erroneously)Gordon Lightfoot with Sammy Johns. Just don't mention them in the same thread please. Gordon is a god. Need I say more?

I would like to hear a recording of the Patrick Simmons song above. Is that the Patrick Simmons from the Doobie Brothers? Seems Like it is with title like Toulouse Street. Will youtube search it later.

Now for something haunting and lovely almost on a par with Edmund Fitzgerald what about Song of the Siren by Tim Buckley? Think I will search for Mudcat threads on Tim now.
