Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Once Famous Date: 20 Jul 04 - 10:44 AM i agree with Brucie. why do people have to insult someone's wife? Believe it or not, I do draw the line. Using a fake name or a handle seems to be what most do here. I would never use my real name in this or in any forum as Don Firth does. Good or bad, why would anyone want to expose their real self to the world as someone who even remotely associates with all of this quirkiness. Don, I've not done it, but wouldn't it make you feel weird if someone did a Google or Yahoo search on your name and it took someone here to Mudcat or wherever else you post and everyone saw all of YOUR very real self co-habitating with many usual Internet varmints? |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Don Firth Date: 19 Jul 04 - 06:55 PM The problem is that there are some people (and I use that term with reservations) who hide behind anonymity, or an equally anonymous "handle," and say things that, were they to make such remarks to someone in person, the next thing they'd be doing is crawling around on the floor looking for their teeth. That kind of anonymity brings out the true nature of some people (once again, the term with reservations): foul-minded, foul-mouthed bullies who are much too cowardly to face the consequences of their utterances, so they make them anonymously in places like this. It's obvious that these—well—people (although I really hesitate to classify them has human beings) have managed to find their level. Right about crotch height. The Mudcat seems to have become infested lately with some particularly nasty parasites. Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 19 Jul 04 - 05:20 PM One essential for a "good insulter" would be the ability to nose out some characteristic of the person being insulted, preferably one about which they feel a bit insecure, and use that as the basis for the insult, rather than just throwing out random off-the-shelf abuse. If an insult isn't in some way accurate, it's got no real force. So, for exmple, to get back to the playground, there'd be no sense in calling someone who didn't wear glasses "old four-eyes". Being a "good insulter" isn't something of which I'd pride myself. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Once Famous Date: 19 Jul 04 - 04:50 PM Champagne for Don? Maybe cheap champagne. No, definately sceptic tank fluid. McGrath, what is your definition of a good insulter? what qualifies to you? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 19 Jul 04 - 04:33 PM But remember "Martin Gibson" is a fictitious character, who has only been in existence since December 2002. So that kind of playground stuff is pretty advanced for someone of that age, even if he'd hardly qualify as being a "good insulter". |

They don't teach that story in any of the religious schools I've been affiliated with. Who gives a crap about wine, or in your case whine. Being a wine con-noyser doesn't impress me in the slightest. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Don Firth Date: 18 Jul 04 - 08:09 PM Jeeze, Marty, I've known the story about Rabbi Loew and the Golem for years, and I'm a Lutheran. Sweet wine!?? Fruity in nose and flavor, yes, but sweet?? Yeah, Doug, I don't think I've had a drink of hard liquor for years (other than a dram of Drambuie from time to time, and an occasional beer on a hot afternoon, which is nowhere near hard liquor). Barbara and I have a glass from the stock of Charles Shaw that we keep on hand maybe two or three times a week with dinner and, of course, when we have guests. A moderate amount of red wine is supposed to Roto-Rooter the plaque out of one's veins and arteries. At last!! Something you enjoy that's actually good for you! We like a fairly wide variety, but the Merlot is excellent. Don Firth |

An IQ of 159 and studying the clubs lists of highest scoring words from the clubs monthly newsletters helped put Bob into the finals. Bob was invincible, easily beating all the competition in a best out of three games fina LEFT IN THE DARK Powerful storms hit Essex and left many residents of Billericay without power and telephones lines. The county of Essex almost grinded to a halt as many roads were blocked by fallen trees and motorists were urged to stay at home unless their trips were absolutely necessary when 90mph winds battered the county. Ramsden Heath, and Billericay amongst other towns and villages were forced to use candle light and gas appliances, with many households not having power restored for days. |

From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 18 Jul 04 - 04:58 PM Actually in the light of "Martin Gibson" reminding people that the real person behind the curtain has virtually nothing in common with the "prson" who pops up here raging away in various directions, perhaps it's not so surprising. So "Martin Gibson" presents as a middle-aged Jewish man living in Chicago, who might be expected to have heard the story of the Golem at some time. But for all we know the real person could be, for example, a Presbyterian granny living in Billericay, who very likely wouldn't have... |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcatr people waht piss you off? From: Don Firth Date: 18 Jul 04 - 01:59 PM AHA, Doug! We may not see eye to eye on things political, but when comes to wines, we are in complete agreement! My wife, Barbara, who often haunts our local Trader Joe's (actual, they have several stores in Seattle), discovered Charles Shaw wines and we've been buying it ever since, both for our own enjoyment and for when we entertain. Here's a pretty informative web site about it (BLICKY). I lift a glass and drink to your health. Well, well, well. Judging from the posts above, Marty, you seem to be the primary off-pisser around here. Commercial offering possible therapy follows:— Follow Doug's recommendation and give Charles Shaw wines a try, Marty. They're sold exclusively at Trader Joe's, but there are Trader Joe's stores in Chicago. They are excellent, and startlingly inexpensive, considering how good they are. Apparently there is nothing about them that is inconsistent with kosher laws, because I have a number of Jewish friends and acquaintances (sophisticated, well-educated, and cosmopolitan, all) who are also very fond of them. One friend (who hosted frequent song-fests in his home for years and, although he is gone now, his wife continues to do so) said once that he will not have Mogen David in the house. He told me that he drank it when he was younger and didn't know any better. According to him, it tastes like grape flavored syrup. Now, don't say that Doug and I never did anything for you, Marty. Enjoy. Mellow out a little. Don Firth |
