Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Cats Date: 11 Aug 04 - 04:46 AM And one or both of us - we're bringing the cream for the cream teas!! |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: GUEST,Polly Squeesebox Date: 11 Aug 04 - 05:40 AM Jack will be there, but I have to miss this year - a band gig that looks like leading to bookings in Germany. Still at least it means Jack won't have to contend with keeping Zak out of the foodtent he'll be with me at home. I'll be there with you in thought - have a good banquet and raise a glass of port to me at about 2.00 am Sunday morning, and I'll raise mine to you. |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Phot Date: 11 Aug 04 - 03:15 PM Not a problem! The port is already to hand! Wassail!! Chris |

Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: treaties1 Date: 12 Aug 04 - 03:11 PM Help, there are two threads on the Wail and Ive just posted a plea for a lift on the one titled "wareham wail" so I'm going to repeat it here as well, hope no ones offended I've sent off my cheque and I'm looking forward to a great weekend However I've just checked train travel from Manchester, and discovered that journey time(s) and ticket cost is a bit OTT. Is there anyone travelling from a shorter distance, who could offer me a lift from a convenient railway station on or near their route? If there is, I would be really grateful and obviously pay my way. Theresa |

Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Herga Kitty Date: 13 Aug 04 - 03:34 PM Theresa I'll be driving from Harrow - although Harrow & Wealdstone is on the West Coast main line, I don't think trains from Manchester stop there, but you could change at Watford Junction onto a Silverlink train, if that's any help (or the Bakerloo line, but that's slower!) Kitty |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: GUEST,Tony Day Date: 17 Aug 04 - 02:18 AM I'll be there as usual, dispensing the singing twig in the Middle Bar tent. Viv is also coming to the Wail for the first time - and we're NOT camping. Hoorah for me! Hoorah for everyone wanting some sleep on the camp site. I will try to snore LOUD enough so's yous can hear me from my hotel, but no promises.... Tony |

Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Herga Kitty Date: 19 Aug 04 - 03:31 PM Leraud You'll have a great time! (So will we all...) Especially as, in the light of the success of the voluntary refrain from smoking in the Anchor at Sidmouth, Grandad has decreed that the Middle Bar tent at the Wail will be non-smoking.... Kitty |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Scooby Doo Date: 19 Aug 04 - 05:50 PM He is a good man Alan White for conforming to peoples opinions |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: GUEST,Canberra Chris Date: 22 Aug 04 - 10:29 AM Hey, happens I'll be in UK from Oz 25 Aug to 19 Sept, looks like I might make the 'Wareham Wail' (whatever and wherever that is!). I was hoping to catch up somewhere with the Middle Bar Singers, and Kitty, as I happily provided the words of the Toast Song , that Kitty learnt between Embankment and Camden Town for the Gloomy Bob do at Sharps. It would be great to make contact! Have songs, will travel. Cheers, Chris |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Scooby Doo Date: 22 Aug 04 - 10:54 AM Its between Poole and Swanage on the A351 down on the south coast.Contact Alan White on 01202 733699. |

Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Herga Kitty Date: 27 Aug 04 - 01:51 PM Chris I've just caught up with this on my return home from Whitby. It would be great if you could make it to Wareham next weekend! The Wail is a festival of unaccompanied singing. There are no big names, but a mix of invited singers whom Alan likes, and thinks other people will like, and others who come because they like to sing. There are 3 marquees, with a bar in each, providing different types of song event. One is the Middle Bar's home from home, one is run like a folk club, with floor spots, and one is usually just jump in and sing. There's a mediaeval midnight banquet on the Saturday night (and a costume workshop on Saturday afternoon for anyone looking for suitable mediaeval garb). Kitty |

Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Herga Kitty Date: 31 Aug 04 - 05:36 PM I'm going to the Wareham Wail because I really enjoy it, but I think it's a shame that the Wallingford Bunkfest has for the last couple of years been set up for the same weekend, and a lot of the Maidenhead and Wycombe crowd in particular who used to go to Wareham are going to Wallingford because it's nearer. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: alanww Date: 31 Aug 04 - 05:57 PM I agree, Kitty, but there seem to be so many clashes nowadays:- * Liverpool Seafest / Alcester FF / Beverley FF (June) * Swansea Seafest / Saddleworth FF (July) * Hull Seafest / Whitby FF (Aug) * Bridgnorth FF / Towersey FF (Aug) * Bromyard FF / Swanage FF / Great Yarmouth Seafest (Sept)... ... to mention just a few others. But at least we get a bit of choice, even if it means that sometimes we spread ourselves more thinly than we would ideally like! See you on Friday! " ... bedecked with bays and rosemary!" Alan |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Hawker Date: 31 Aug 04 - 07:41 PM Bugger! Bugger! Bugger! Down with relatives getting married and wanting a ceilidh on the Saturday evening of The Wail! Most regretably, we will not be there, but our hearts will be, have some port on us - and we'll bring the mangonel next year! Scones to the ready all!!!!! May even comply with the unrepealed medieval law and send the Grey Goose flying on Sunday morning. Have a good one, all! Cheers, and a big hug to Alan, See you next year come hell or high water! Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: GUEST,Canberra Chris (guesting) Date: 05 Sep 04 - 07:22 AM Sorry, just can't get to the Wareham Wail. Stopped in Chester to catch up with the Poms-from-Oz on their last couple of days touring UK, great hospitality from Frank Wigglesworth and the mob at the Cross-Keys and house-party for 'last night of the Poms'. My 10 yr old nephew discovered, and started playing folk music, so it was all in a good cause. But we didn't get back down in time for the next leg. Maybe I'll catch up with the Middle Bar at Sidmouth if they sing on regular, as I will be down that way in the next week, and Helga Kitty in London? I'll be coming through there over the next couple of weeks. Canberra Chris |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Herga Kitty Date: 06 Sep 04 - 06:15 AM I had a great time, the banquet was brilliant, and the weather fantastic. (The port was pretty good too!) Chris - the Middle Bar singers only get together in Sidmouth in Folk Week and for the February Winter reunion. Kitty |

Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: alanww Date: 06 Sep 04 - 07:34 AM Well done Grandad in organising another successful Wail. Pity about the timing of the school holidays adversely affecting some regulars' attendance. They missed some great singing and a brill feast. "... and I pray you masters be merry!" Alan |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Cllr Date: 06 Sep 04 - 09:47 AM Excellent fun as usual, I was very tired becuase of work pressures that meant I wasn't as vocal as I normally am but I still had a brilliant time. Cllr |

Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: alanww Date: 07 Sep 04 - 04:13 PM Hi vectis. treaties 1 certainly did attend her first Wail but was was she meant to make? "... the rarest dish in all the land!" Alan |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: vectis Date: 07 Sep 04 - 04:33 PM Oooh good. Glad she enjoyed it. |
Subject: RE: Wareham Wail 2004 From: Herga Kitty Date: 07 Sep 04 - 05:18 PM Vectis Alanww omitted to mention that Treaties 1 sang "Oh Sir Jasper" at the banquet, while being chased around by Alanww in his knight's outfit (with sword). They both looked as if they were enjoying themselves. I particularly enjoyed Mike Taylor's rendition of Little White Bull (with Fred as the bull), Jon Heslop singing "Riding on a Scooter" (followed by Alan giving a demonstration and falling off), the Middle Bar contingent stealing the pig's head and leaving Dave Reader in its place, and Alanww folding all the spare chairs and stacking them in front of Vik while he sang "They had to send for extra chairs..."
