Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: John MacKenzie Date: 12 Aug 04 - 12:17 PM I'd like to meet most all Mudcatters The sensible, the mad as hatters Some to hug, a few to slug And some with whom to share a jug We might jaw jaw, or we might war war Or I could sit [?] and trade some farts with Spaw The ones I've seen have been great fun And I've met you in cyberspace, every one. In the flesh one day maybe. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Jeri Date: 12 Aug 04 - 12:26 PM I'd like to meet 'Spaw, but that ankle bracelet means he doesn't usually get too far from home. Seems the cops thought he was responsible for Cletus and Paw's adventures, and they've even got his house staked out waiting for Reg and Reg to show up. Nobody's seen those boys for a while. As to other folks, I don't usually know I want to meet people until I do. Sometimes, an individual's Mudcat persona is the tip of the iceberg. Sometimes it's the Titanic: looks impressive, but in reality, spends a lot of time below the surface. I'm likely to be more Titanic-like. I have time to think when I write, but on the rare occasions I think of something intelligent to say in a conversation, it arrives in my brain 10 minutes after it would have been appropriate to say it. I'd like to meet folks, just to be surprised by learning things I don't know about them. |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST,Norton1 Date: 12 Aug 04 - 01:08 PM Jerry Rasmussen - Already met CarolC, Bill D, Ferrara, and some others I can't think of now. Superb hospitality and friend ship from all of them. And one fine guitar from one of them. I was picking the Gurian this morning Rita - it just sounds sweeter and sweeter every time I pick it up. And I think of you guys each time I play it. Lord Bless you all - Steve |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 12 Aug 04 - 03:33 PM Why thank you Bill and Norton. You know I feel the same. And seein's as how we have a Guest complaint that this thread is just a popularity contest (I didn't realize we were going to vote on this stuff) I'd like to say that I've greatly enjoyed every Mudcatter I've had the pleasure to meet.. that includes Col K, Sussex Carole, Noreen and the other Shellbacks I met when they were here on tour, Bill D and the Catters in D.C., and old friends like Art Thieme, Sandy & Caroline Paton, Barbara C, Karen Kobela and many, many others. Next year, I have high hopes to meet The Man Of Lead. Fingers. Jerry |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST Date: 12 Aug 04 - 03:36 PM Ah, yes, yet another thread for the inner Mudcat clique to pat each other on the ass, communion, oh yes I want to meet so and so and that person too. Yet another thread for those on on the "inside" to feel left out. Isn't it funny that the same names keep getting mentioned? |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Amos Date: 12 Aug 04 - 04:05 PM I suspect that there is a proportionality between intelligible posts and mentions. It doesn't seem at all peculiar to me. Advertising brings in business. Communicating elicits communication. How come you don't understand that? A A |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST,Hurt Date: 12 Aug 04 - 04:40 PM I have been a mudcat member for years, and have posted a lot, but no one mentioned me, and I am honestly hurt. GUEST is right--the same old same old keep getting mentioned--not the brightest, not the best musicians, not the most helpful or the funniest, but the ones who post continuously, ad nauseum-- I've been to some of the get togethers, and have been generally ignored--"Who are you? Sorry--Gotta go talk to some no talent jerk who passes for someone important"-- Screw you all!! Go to Hell, all of you who wear your neuroses on your sleeves like a badge of honor--- You are all self-congratulating, self-important know-nothings!! |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Bill D Date: 12 Aug 04 - 04:43 PM Susan...if you get a message from God saying he's coming...I'll be there! Should be an interesting meeting...*grin* (Durn 'im...if he can navigate Mudcat,he can surely navigate PA!) |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST,Blackcatter Date: 12 Aug 04 - 04:46 PM WYSIWYG, She's at all the gatherings. By the way - it's a good opportunity to remind y'all about my standing invite. If you're visiting the Orlando/Disney area let me know (I, know: Disney, but hey, many of you have kids). Anyway - I'll buy the first round at the local watering hole and if you'd like I'll give to an historical tour of Orlando to show you that we're not all Disney. We're projected to pass 50 million folks visiting this year, so there's got to be a few folkies in the mix somewhere. |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Georgiansilver Date: 12 Aug 04 - 05:26 PM Already met Sooz, Strollin' Johnny, Travelling Audience, Villan, el ted, sweetfia, Ossonflags, Sir John from Hull, Bloke in the corner, Willa, Skipjack, Gaucho, Moorley Man, and a few others whose names escape at present(one of the legacies of age). Have seen most of them perform and they range from good to damned good...maybe even excellent. On the strength of that, I would love to meet any Catters, as I am sure when face to face, people tend to get on well together and are pleased to meet....in spite of any or many differences. Best wishes. |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 12 Aug 04 - 05:43 PM Marion was with us a couple of nights, and at one time I thought AllanC might pass through town, but he headed east and hasn't been back since. I saw several Mudcatters in February when Dad's ashes were scattered, and at Rainy Camp. Mudcat is a great network for meeting people and for making travel affordable, and as I read these remarks I find myself thinking "yes, I should have included that person and another person and another person. . ." The thread didn't start as a popularity contest, but might be a good diagnostic tool to reflect our short term memory skills. Who have we spoken to lately who we remembered to list. :) |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Naemanson Date: 12 Aug 04 - 07:10 PM Stilly, you and your SO are welcome in Guam any time, especially this weekend when we are painting the new place... *grin* However, you are welcome even after we finish that job. We have a spare room and I hope to have plenty of time to act as tour guide. What do you want to do first, go swimming in the crystal clear ocean or go hiking through the jungle to swim under a waterfall? Are there any ethnic Asian foods you like? They are all here on Guam. Dick G. & BillD, when is the next FSGW? I might be able to make it this year if Iplan well enough in advance. I will be traveling to England in August and plan to spend the fall in New England. |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 12 Aug 04 - 07:31 PM Well, I've met Joe Offer and Dick Greenhaus and InOBU, and Kendall and Sorcha, and I've talked to Áine on the phone, and they're all people I'd have listed from the American side. And from over here there's jacqui.c and all the people at the Stony Stratford meet, and a fair number more from around the part of the world I live in or whom I've run into at Whitby and other festivals. But as I start thinking I lose count of the people I would like to meet, and I can't start listing because I'd never be done. Let Jerry Rasmussen stand for all of them. It would have been great to meet Rick Fielding though. (And that's a date, alanabit.) |

Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST,So deeply hurt I oughta sue! Date: 12 Aug 04 - 08:20 PM I too am hurt! I am deeply hurt that you Mudcat people who don't know me from a friggin hole in the wall would be friendlier to people you know well than you are to me. It's an outrage. You are all so stuck up and self-satisified and disgusting that it makes my skin crawl. You have rejected me, wounded me, and marginalized me, and you don't even care! Why don't any of you want to visit ME??????? Why am I not central in your concerns? I'm just as cool as your inner clique! In fact, I'm cooler. I'm enraged that you don't appreciate me. I'm enraged that you go on and on talking among yourselves and don't include people like ME. You are elitists. I'm so infuriated about it that I am going to do the very worst thing I can think of, and that is I am going to turn my back on your stupid forum and ignore it forever and ever! That's right, you heard me. You people are not worth my time, because it's too valuable. Anyway, I'm way too sensitive and valuable to waste myself on pigs like you. I'm gone. I'm outta here. You have heard the last from ME. I don't need you. No sir. I don't need you at all. In fact I'm leaving NOW. Right now. You can't talk me out of it either! Go ahead, beg... I'm leaving. You heard me. Who needs you? NOt me. I'm gone. Gone. Forever. I mean it! Nyah! Nyah! Nyah! |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: GUEST,SueB Date: 12 Aug 04 - 08:30 PM This is gonna sound strange, but I kind of like the aspect of mystery that comes with not knowing a Mudcat poster in person... but if I really really really had to choose, I might choose Freda Underhill. |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Amos Date: 12 Aug 04 - 08:33 PM Well, Skipper, I am not too far -- a day's drive I believe..lemme check the maps..yeah, about 8 hours, 550 miles give or take some. I did some hard-rock mining not far from there when I was a bit younger...outside of Placerville just south of there. I'll take the time off to come up and see yez, and I'd be glad to put you up if you want to do it the other way and come down here. When are you thinking? A |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Deckman Date: 12 Aug 04 - 08:36 PM Upon further reflection ... Amos and Jerry R. and Mrs. Jerry. That should be quite a night. Oh, wait a minute, we MUST include Mudlark (Nancy). CHEERS, Bob |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Amos Date: 12 Aug 04 - 08:38 PM Bob: As it happens I will be calling on Mz Mudlark soon, the evening of the 26th instant. Why don't you round up Mr and Mrs Jerry and bring them down there!! We can stay up until dawn working out New Harmonies! :>) A |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Naemanson Date: 12 Aug 04 - 09:20 PM BillD, that looks like it should fit into my plans. Plus I have a few chunks of wood for you including some ifit. I have lost your mailing addres so if you would be so kind as to PM it to me I may be able to send them to you. As a woodworker you would be interested in the wood we used in our outigger canoe. The tam (pontoon) is joined to the outrigger beams at right angles. As such the connection is subject to racking stress. The canoe builders use a wood they call negus to form a spring mechanism to control that movement. Negus grows like a bush, nothing bigger than 2 inches in diameter, and nothing straight. I cannot break a 3 foot long 1 inch thick piece over my knee. It's so dense it will not float, even when well seasoned. Neat stuff. |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 12 Aug 04 - 10:05 PM I like Mississippi John Hurt... Does that count? More visits coming with Mudcatters as time goes by. Look forward to meeting and hearing D.W. Ditty this Saturday. We live ten minutes apart. No wonder we've never met... :-) But, we'll be doing a gospel in black, blue and bluegrass together at Nomad this year, in New Haven.. Jerry |
Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: khandu Date: 12 Aug 04 - 10:24 PM I went to the Royal Palace to meet with Joe Offer on his non-birthday party but he pulled a George Jones. I met Spaw once but he wasn't all there, I can't remember where for I wasn't either. I would have met Carol the Sailor when she came to Tupelo, but she forgot to tell me. Tweed, Bobert & I were to meet in Como,MS to hear Tony Bennet last Summer, but Tweed told me the date of the performance was a day later than it really was. Jerry Rasmussen & I definitely have a scheduled meeting!(which neither of us shall miss "for the world"!) Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: Bobert Date: 12 Aug 04 - 10:28 PM Well, if Jerry gets Mississippi John Hurt than I get Mississippi Fred McDowell... Okay? I'd like to also meet LH. Big Mick, Amos (of course), Kat, Spawzer, brucie, the Rap-man-aire, brother khannydu, Jeri, SRS, Thomas the Rhymer, Larry OBO... One smart gal and from lookin' at her piccure purdy danged easy on the eyes, too... Like to meet up with Cletus and the Reg Boyz since Iz heared so much about 'um from Spawzer and from my couzin Rufus who's wife Rether Mays is related to them thru marriage. Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: CarolC Date: 12 Aug 04 - 10:52 PM I did too tell you, khandu, but you forgot to answer. Subject: RE: BS: If You Could Meet One Mudcatter-Who? From: CarolC Date: 12 Aug 04 - 11:02 PM Thanks Bobert and SRS. Even though I've already met quite a few Mudcatters, there's still a whole lot I haven't yet met, but would like to eventually. |

It weren't Tony Bennett 'er me and Tweed would have come and got you an' dragged you to the show... It was the new Herman's Hermits with no originals left but just a bunch of fat 60 year old guys so me and Tweed figgured that, seein' as you might have us arrested for draggin' yer royal butt to it, we'd just leave you asleep in yer folding chair on the front porch of yer royalist of Mississippi castles...
