Without the face, the rest doesn't merit much more than a glance (albeit an appreciative one sometimes). Both Gerome and Siemeradzky painted very lovely pictures of "Phryne before the Areopagus" but they both showed he lowered the top of her gown a long way down. (Siemeradzky's is the better one - IMO.)Are those not "historically accurate," do you suppose? John |
