The shock of that thread title doesn't subside into an amused smile. April Fools day only grants a license to tease or confound briefly, not to plunge one into sadness. Please reconsider the name on this thread. Why not follow the lead of another Mudcatter: "Nude photos of Little Hawk discovered." Now that will give people cause for great merriment, I'm sure!

Oh, horsepucky. The idea is a crack-up!!! It is with great sadness that I read of the passing of the one and only Little Hawk, whose endless insights turned many a simple thread into a Meobius Strip of profound tail-chasing.

There is always a silver lining. In this school of life, we all find ourselves moving where we need to be to learn our next lesson. I have it on high authority from the Recently Disincarnate Beings Professional Association that Little Hawk will be spending several months regrouping as a cumulus cloud formation somewhere over Idaho, and will then be reborn as the only daughter of an alcoholic big-rig driver with a fifth grade education, operating out of Muskogee.

I look forward to his return to these hallowed pages in his new identity. I hope he shares with us all he has learned!!

Congratulations on your graduation, Big Guy!! It couldn't have happened to a better man, for reasons which will remain as an exercise for the student to decipher.

Regards,

A

My first thought too was that it's not funny. I agree that 'Obit' is a headsup. But when I read Amos's post it made me smile- because Little Hawk, of all people, will be the least alarmed person I "know" when the day does come. (Stick around, LH, you got a lot of things still to do.)

And on April 2 and 3 and 4, when this thread is still around with the same title?

Amos' offering was amusing. But I still think this thread is mis-directed.

Joe, please change the name. "Little Hawk slips this earthly coil" won't fit. But take the "Obit" part out, please.

Hey Raptor, you got my attention anyway! Hee hee ...

Let's lighten up a bit, ok folks? THis thread brings to mind Chuck Brodsky's song about road rage. You know the one "...drove up beside him, pulled out my pistol, and blew him away ..." Some folks find it real cute and smart and funny. But I must have a less evolved sense of humour or something, because it leaves me cold no matter how many times I hear it. I still can't imagine myself singing it.

ANd gee, who was the first person I ever heard performing that song? Lemme think ... why, it was Raptor of course!   :-)

Maybe it's a "man" thing to be so nonchalant (read insensitive) about pain and cruelty and grief and death??? Well, if that's the case all I can say is Thank You God and a heartfelt God Help Us All!

Yes. I'll do that. You are already in good standing, Daylia, but I'll put in a good word anyway. The Great Unmanifest, That Which Is All That Is, and so on...wants you to know, Daylia, that you can feel free to refer to it by any name or gender pronoun that you find suitable, because it really doesn't matter. If using this or that gender pronoun for the Unmanifest is a problem for you, then you need to look into that some and find out where the hostility issues are arising from.

Good addition to the title, Clone, whoever you are! (Raedwulf, the change came about shortly after 12:30 Mudcat time--before you read the thread the title was more alarming than amusing.)

I suspect Little Hawk's sudden reversal of fortune came from taking a big drink of Google Gulp with Auto-DrinkTM .

Lighten up folks!

Little Hawk was chosen because he can take a joke and is a very dear friend!

Shame on you who are too tight butted to enjoy a harmless prank!

And yes it was harmless. Alarming mabey but harmless!

April Fools day is the one day of year that we can have some fun!

Bob Geldolf said it best "The Politicaly Correct are the Natzis of our time".

I do agree with adding the (April 1 2096)Tag at the end of the thread title later but it wouldn't have worked to start the thread!

AND Martin Gibson I'm so sorry I can't put threads out there that meet your standards I'm gonna lose a lot of sleep over that!

Now go to the doctor and have those pickels REMOVED!

Annamill thanks for the SPANK!

"Ah yes, impulse power. Now Little Hawk was impulsive, almost as impulsive as that Vulcan cutie Mr. Spock and I initiated into the Federation cheerleader squad two weeks ago, eh, Mr. Spock?"
"Indubitably, Captain. The fact does remain that although Little Hawk is no more, he has gone to join the choir eternal, he is an ex-hawk, we are in danger of joining him within a few microseconds, if those Klingon cruisers continue their assault on our shields."

Peter T has managed to bring a great dialog to this goofy thread, and that's fine. The name change was needed, the silly stuff can happen. But don't dismiss the concerns of those who didn't like the original title. Why? Here are some reminders:

Raptor, it wasn't that long ago (December, 2003) that you posted an obit, and received a heartfelt response from Mudcatters. Here are a few others that shocked us to sadness. Some expected, some not, in no particular order except as they came up in a search under the previx "obit."

Obit: Walking Eagle-Julie Pennell-October 3, 2004

Obit: Mary Giacomini (Nov 11, 2004)

Obit: Sparky

Obit: Goodbye Merritt (Merritt Herring)

Obit: My Dad

Obit: Jacqueline (Jacqui) Walker

Obit: Allan C.'s Mom

Obit : Winter's Wages

OBIT: Mudcatter Fin

Rick Fielding's passing.

CH and others, have a heart.

Folks, I mean no ill-will, disrespect, or lack of compassion. I mourn for those who die and grieve for those who loved them. I do.

But life is a fast-flowing river, and if we can't laugh at our losses in some fashion we will be sorely ill-prepred for the big loss called "Exit--Stage Right--Pursued by a bear". You wanna be ready for your own leap, practice levity. It heals the soul and maketh it to float.

Otherwise there is no telling how deep there is to fall.

Raptor has a long history of concocting jokes which amuse some people and infuriate others. Believe me. He has few scruples and no more self-control or patience than a hungry squirrel trying get into a birdfeeder. I could tell stories...but I won't. :-)

Well, I have had lunch in the Afterlife and it was exactly like lunch used to be in the regular life, except that I got 3 pieces of lemon for my tea, because I finally took the initiative and ASKED for 3 pieces. Good stuff. I may have learned something in all those years after all!

Rombos Restaurant in heaven is exactly like Rombos Restaurant in Orillia. Same grundgy ceiling tiles. What a disappointment! Perhaps I have gone instead to purgatory or to some minor Buddhist hell or something. The liver and onions was good, though.

Peter, thanks for that wonderful little Star Trek vignette. I hate to think of William Shatner having to soldier on without his most loyal fan to sing his praises here on Mudcat Cafe, but I know that he would be able to manage. He would rise to the occasion magnificently. I can think of no person more fitting to eulogize my passing than the mighty Admiral Kirk. He does memorial scenes wonderfully. Bring to mind his very moving oration at the funeral of Spock, for example, in "The Wrath of Khan". Woof!

Major Nigel West - I am touched by your concern. I likewise hope that when you meet your untimely demise (most likely at the hands of Iraqi insurgents) that all those who dearly loved you and were willing to overlook your numerous character flaws will pool their meaager resources and see that a fitting memorial is erected over your tomb, such as a little plastic statue of the female figure "Brittania", naked from the waist up, and bearing a hauntingly similar resemblance to either Penelope Rutledge or Penelope Cruz, with the inscription "Cuckolded, yes, but not forgotten..."

Amos, I love your thoughts on this, as always. If it wasn't for your unfortunate and inexplicable antipathy to William Shatner, I would recommend you as "Man of the Year".]

Clinton, you are so much yourself that it is impossible to think of anyone else playing your part effectively. :-) Look, sing a memorial song for me at your next show, okay? Something appropriate. I leave it to you to decide which song would be just right for that. Dylan would be nice.

And those of you who were genuinely upset...HEY, I would have been too if I wasn't already me and didn't know better. It's nice to know that you care. I appreciate that. Raptor left a phone message this morning that he had "bumped me off on Mudcat for April Fool's Day". I laughed, and thought, "What an *sshole! Bet he's gonna catch hell for it too." Typical. Just typical.

I do not hope to live until 2096. I hate getting old, and that would just be too damned old for toleration! Spare me the experience, unless someone can find me a fountain of youth somewhere.

This is our wedding anniversary!
Yes Kate & I got married 16 years ago today!
Mr & Mrs Admiral as best man & matron of honour.
However today kate had to go to hospital to have an ingrowing toe nail removed (not a planned apopointment, a cancellation). So whoopee shit! so that I don't catch her toe during the night I have to sleep in the spare room for the next 10-14 days!
Skipy - pissed off!

My late wife was always joking and I loved her for it!

And when she died I got through it by remembering the times we laughed
togeather I'll always have that!

If you chose not to laugh, fine but don't impose your uptight lack of humor on the rest of us!

April fools pranks are meant to shock.

Just as soon as the thread was opened, with the press of one button, one would learn that it in fact was A JOKE!!!!

If I'd actually acted serious and didn't INSTANTLY say April fools day it might have gone to far!

BUT I contend that NO ONE was hurt or offended by said joke, Little Hawk Knew before he even Logged on!

If you chose to be offended, so be it. GET A HELMET!!

So to Quote Tom Waits " Come down of your cross we need the Wood"

Nice try, man, but what I think you really need to do is compose a more lengthy explanation. Have you looked through a copy of "Moby Dick" or read a chapter of "War and Peace"? No? I thought not.

What I am recommending is that you study those books carefully, noting how they are organized, then compose an essay of no less than 3,000 carefully chosen words to explain exactly why you did what you did and why it's okay.

In this way you will be able to clear the slate, so to speak.

If I were you, I'd set aside a nice big chunk of time and do it up RIGHT. :-)
