I think the distinct possibility exists that Carol made a mistake, and that's why I wasn't able to find and delete the message in question. It may be that Carol gave me incorrect information because she does not understand our thread and message numbering system - many people don't. I suppose one could possibly imagine that I deleted one message as requested, and then deliberately neglected to delete another one, in an attempt to punish or harrass the target of the message. Seems unlikely to me, though. I don't have any reason to do that, and I don't have any history of having done that in the past. As I've said before, Martin Gibson was prolific, and it was impossible for me to keep up with every insulting message he posted. It took me a while to accept the idea that I needed to read all of his messages, at the end of every day. I did that in spurts. When he seemed to settle down, I stopped reviewing his messages until I started to get complaints again. He was on full review for several days before he stopped posting. Believe me, reading all those Martin Gibson messages was not a pleasant task. There are many other things that I would prefer to spend my time on. It was especially thankless because so many people insisted on their "right" to do battle with him, which provoked him to post even more. It really feels like a slap in the face that those same people are now complaining about Mudcat's failure to control Martin Gibson. -Joe Offer-

In the last six months, I have spent far more time on the posts of Martin Gibson than I have spent on all other objectionable posts combined in the nine years I have been here at Mudcat. As far as I can determine, he always posted under the name of Martin Gibson. I think there was a time or two when Mudcatter logged out and posted as "Guest, Martin Gibson" - but in those cases, it was pretty obvious that somebody was posting pseudonymously to poke fun at Martin. But, in the thousands of messages posted by Mudcat Member Martin Gibson, it was that individual and nobody else. There was no impersonation in the "Martin Gibson Affair," and it's unfair to attempt to accuse any regular Mudcatter of posing as Martin Gibson. But Martin Gibson was prolific. He often posted more than thirty messages in a day. Keeping up with him was a real chore. -Joe Offer- |

A post by JennyO at 6:52 AM on June 11 is now showing as the initial post to this thread, not MG's post of 7:50 PM, June 10. I've come across similar things in other threads. Some are bad enough that it's impossible to follow the sequence of the thread at all. If there's jumbling in one database field, there's probably jumbling in others. |

By the time he wrote his recent 'Liberal Twitch' thread, where he took the p**s out of a 15 yr old boy with a speech impediment, LH had lost the plot so much he was writing as MG, but using LH as the name. I pointed that out to him on that thread and got called the predictable (never had much of an imagination eh?) troll guest, but by then it was transparent who MG was. It was always going to be someone who never had kids, nobody with them could wish another persons child dead, it was also someone who had issues with females,and a good idea about those he targetted, a passable knowledge of judaism and a chicago fixation, plus someone who was probably bullied as a kid. LH ticked all those boxes. But his dogmatic belief in his own beliefs as LH swung it for me, the same dogmatic stance MG took in his opinions. Everyone else was always wrong and he was always right, regardless of which personna he was using at the time. I am sorry for all those he hurt too, it made a pretty good detective mystery for a very short space of time. But if I knew him, like some of you did, I would be upset understandably. Donuel's post stating it was LH has been deleted, maybe he requested it to be. The consolation is he must be a very unhappy indivdual to get his kicks like that. Hope the meds kick in and he finds another purpose in life. But for everytime LH called me a troll guest for pointing out his resemblance to MG, he can well and truely swivel. |
